La competitività della Kawasaki di Febvre porta il giapponese vicino al primo successo del titolo MXGP
Romain Febvre ha vinto tre manche e conquistato sei podi nella sua seconda stagione con Monster Energy Kawasaki e dopo la stretta gara con Jeffrey Herlings nel fine settimana per il suo Gran Premio di casa a Lacapelle-Marival si trova a soli 6 punti dall’olandese e dal vantaggio MXGP .
Il 2021 è stato l’anno più competitivo del 29enne da quando ha vinto il titolo da rookie con la Yamaha nel 2015. Il francese si è chiaramente legato alla KX450F, nota per la sua maneggevolezza e nonostante alcuni errori durante la stagione, come il suo ultimo errore sul giro mentre era al comando in Turchia: è rimasto sano e in lizza. L’alleanza di Febvre con Kawasaki è così forte che ha accettato di rimanere “in verde” per altre due stagioni, nonostante il passaggio delle operazioni da KRT al team IceOne per il 2022.
“È difficile da dire”, ha osservato quando gli è stato chiesto se la KX450F fosse il pacchetto più formidabile che abbia guidato in MXGP e sette stagioni nella classe regina. “Quando ero con la Yamaha anche la loro moto andava bene”.
“Penso che il mio livello [di prestazioni] e la condizione fisica siano aumentati, e abbiamo dovuto adattare la moto a questo”, ha offerto come spiegazione per la sua forma. “Questa settimana abbiamo apportato alcune modifiche che hanno funzionato molto bene per me a Lacapelle. Sono davvero contento della moto ed è anche per questo che ho firmato ancora due anni con Kawasaki”.
Febvre ha deviato la pressione sulle sue credenziali per il 2021 ed è stato il primo campione del mondo di Kawasaki dal 2006 e solo il secondo nell’era dei quattro tempi. “La tabella rossa non significa nulla al momento perché siamo tutti così vicini”, ha affermato. “È bello che ci siamo noi tre. Ogni fine settimana uno di noi può avere la tabella rossa! Speriamo che duri fino al round finale e sappiamo che dovremo tirare fuori qualcosa dalla tasca nei round finali”.

Febvre’s Kawasaki competitiveness brings the Japanese close to maiden MXGP title success
Romain Febvre has won three motos and claimed six podiums in his second season with Monster Energy Kawasaki and after the close contest with Jeffrey Herlings at the weekend for his home Grand Prix at Lacapelle-Marival sits just 6 points away from the Dutchman and the MXGP lead.
2021 has been the 29-year-old’s most competitive year since his rookie title-winning term with Yamaha in 2015. The Frenchman has clearly bonded with the KX450F, noted for its easy handling and despite some mistakes during the campaign – such as his last lap error while leading in Turkey – he has remained healthy and in contention. Febvre’s alliance with Kawasaki is so strong that he agreed to remain ‘in green’ for another two seasons, despite the shift of operations from KRT to the IceOne team for 2022.
“It’s difficult to say,” he remarked when asked if the KX450F was the most formidable package he has steered in MXGP and seven seasons in the premier class. “When I was with Yamaha their bike was good also.”
“I think my level [of performance] and the physical condition has increased, and we had to adapt the bike to that,” he offered by way of explanation for his form. “This week we made some changes that worked very well for me [at Lacapelle]. I’m really happy with the bike and it’s also why I signed two years again with Kawasaki.”
Febvre deflected pressure over his credentials for 2021 and being Kawasaki’s first world champion since 2006 and only the second in the four-stroke era. “The red plate means nothing at the moment because we are all so close,” he stated. “It’s nice that three of us are there. Every weekend one of us can have the red plate! Hopefully it will last until the final round and we know we’ll need to take something out of the pocket in the final rounds.”
