Prestazione sul podio di Gajser al GP di Francia
Mentre i fan tornavano in gran numero sulla pista di Lacapelle-Marival nel sud della Francia, Tim Gajser ha dovuto lottare duramente per il suo posto sul podio, mantenendolo in lizza per questo campionato del mondo MXGP 2021 molto combattuto.
Non correva qui dal 2010, la mancanza di esperienza di guidare il circuito stretto, stretto e duro ha fatto sì che Gajser potesse qualificarsi solo al sesto posto e con partenze cruciali, che si sono rivelate un ostacolo difficile da superare mentre cercava di mantenere la tabella rossa di testa della serie.
Nella prima gara, è stato bloccato dai piloti all’interno e ha dovuto accontentarsi di chiudere il primo giro in nona posizione. Ha fatto un paio di sorpassi veloci, ma un piccolo ribaltamento ha annullato il duro lavoro ed è risalito in sella in decima posizione. Dovendo avventurarsi fuori dalla traiettoria principale per fare dei sorpassi, è riuscito gradualmente a raggiungere il sesto posto, a soli sette secondi dal terzo, ma ha finito il tempo e ha dovuto concentrarsi sul fare del suo meglio per la seconda manche.
È partito molto meglio nella seconda gara, arrivando al primo giro in quarta posizione, ma sfortunatamente non è stato in grado di entrare in terza posizione abbastanza velocemente da seguire i primi due mentre si allontanavano. Alla fine, ha fatto la mossa giusta e quel sorpasso è stato abbastanza buono per ottenere il terzo posto sul podio. Nonostante un bottino di 35 punti, non è stato in grado di mantenere la tabella rossa, e ora si trova a soli 10 punti dalla vetta con sei round ancora da fare. Il prossimo appuntamento per la serie è il GP della Spagna domenica 17 ottobre, con la sede di Intu Xanadu-Arroyomolinos che ospiterà il suo secondo GP dopo un debutto di successo lo scorso anno in cui Gajser è arrivato secondo assoluto.

È stata una giornata un po’ frustrante qui, nonostante sia finito sul podio. Sapevo che arrivare in quella partenza sarebbe stato cruciale perché la pista è così stretta in molti punti, e sfortunatamente non sono riuscito ad uscire abbastanza bene dal cancello in nessuna delle due manche. Nella prima gara ero intorno al 10° posto all’inizio ed è stato davvero difficile fare dei sorpassi, è stato difficile trovare un buon ritmo, ma alla fine sono riuscito a raggiungere il sesto posto, che è stato tutto ciò che sono riuscito a gestire. In gara due, la mia partenza è stata un po’ migliore ma non sono riuscito ad aggrapparmi ai primi due e a lottare con loro e quindi una volta arrivato terzo, ero troppo indietro per raggiungerli. Tuttavia, ci sono molte gare in arrivo e ora mi concentrerò sul prossimo fine settimana quando andremo in Spagna.

È stata una giornata difficile per Tim e penso che il format di un giorno sia stato davvero uno svantaggio per noi qui perché non siamo stati in grado di ottenere il tempo in pista necessario per competere contro i ragazzi che hanno corso qui regolarmente. Era una pista così monolinea e questo ha reso le manche difficili dato che Tim ha dovuto provare a superare molti ragazzi, ma ha fatto del suo meglio ed è comunque uscito con un podio. La cosa positiva è che siamo ancora molto vicini nella battaglia per il campionato e con sei round ancora da disputare, ci sono molti punti per cui lottare e siamo fiduciosi che Tim possa riprendersi e lottare per la vittoria ancora una volta in Spagna.

Podium performance from Gajser at GP of France
As fans returned in huge numbers to the Lacapelle-Marival track in southern France, Tim Gajser had to fight hard for his podium spot, keeping him in contention for this highly contested 2021 MXGP World Championship.
Having not ridden here since 2010, the lack of experience of riding the tight, narrow and hard-pack circuit meant that Gajser was only able to qualify in sixth place and with starts being crucial, that proved a difficult obstacle to overcome as he tried to retain the series leading red-plate.
In the first race, he was blocked out from the riders inside and had to settle for coming round the first lap in ninth. He did make a couple of quick passes, but a small tip-over undid that hard work and he got back on his bike in 10th. Having to venture off the main racing line to make passes, he gradually worked his way through to sixth place, just seven seconds behind third, but he ran out of time and instead had to focus on doing his best for moto two.
He got off to a much better start in the second race, coming round lap one in fourth position but unfortunately he wasn’t able to get into third quickly enough to follow the front two as they pulled away. Eventually, he did make the move stick and that pass was good enough to grab third place on the podium. Despite a 35-point haul, he was unable to hold onto the red plate, and now sits just 10 points off the lead with six rounds still remaining. Next up for the series is the MXGP of Spain on Sunday 17th October, with the Intu Xanadu-Arroyomolinos venue hosting its second GP after a successful debut last year where Gajser finished second overall.

It was a bit of a frustrating day here, despite ending up on the podium. I knew coming in that starts would be crucial because the track is so tight and narrow in a lot of places, and unfortunately I wasn’t able to get out of the gate well enough in either moto. In the first race I was around 10th place early on and it was just really difficult to make any passes, it was hard to find a good rhythm, but eventually I worked my way through to sixth, which was all I could manage. In race two, my start was a bit better but I couldn’t latch onto the top two and battle with them and so once I got into third, I was too far behind to catch them. Still, there are a lot races to come and I will now focus on next weekend when we head to Spain.

It was a tough day for Tim, and I think the one-day format really was a disadvantage for us here because we just weren’t able to get the track time necessary to compete against the guys who have ridden here regularly. It was such a one-lined track and that made the motos difficult as Tim had to try and pass a lot of guys but he did his best and still came out with a podium. The positive thing is that we are still really close in the championship battle and with six rounds still remaining, there are a lot of points to race for and we are confident that Tim can bounce-back and challenge for wins once again in Spain.
