Gajser combatte duramente per mantenersi nella lotta per il campionato MXGP
In condizioni difficili al MXGP della Sardegna, Tim Gajser del Team HRC ha lottato per ogni singola posizione nelle sue due manche, ottenendo alla fine 15 punti preziosi poiché ora si trova a solo un punto dietro il leader del campionato con otto round ancora da correre.
Entrando in questo fine settimana, un incidente mentre si allenava la scorsa settimana significava che sarebbe arrivato in Sardegna con un infortunio, che avrebbe mitigato ogni aspettativa per quello che si è rivelato essere il test più duro del calendario di quest’anno. Il caldo combinato con la sabbia ruvida e profonda di Riola Sardo non erano le condizioni che il campione in carica MXGP sperava, ma era determinato a fare del suo meglio e a non rinunciare alla sua tabella rossa senza combattere.
Dopo una sessione di prove disgiunta, Gajser avrebbe avuto solo la diciottesima scelta del cancello, il che significava che sarebbe partito dall’esterno in questo rettilineo di partenza aggiornato a Riola. Questa si è rivelata la sua rovina nella gara di apertura quando un altro pilota è caduto alla prima curva e lo sloveno non aveva un posto dove andare, ribaltandosi nella mischia. Quando è tornato in sella alla sua moto, il resto del gruppo era quasi scomparso e un lavoro difficile è diventato molto più difficile. Come sempre, però, ha continuato a spingere per tutta la gara, guadagnando sempre sul 20° posto dove avrebbe iniziato a segnare punti. Mentre i giri diminuivano, alla fine si è spostato in 19° posizione, per prendere due punti.
Un gate-drop molto migliore in gara due significava che era appena fuori dalla top 10 mentre giravano la prima curva, dando già alla Honda CRF450RW una spinta di fiducia che avrebbe potuto limitare troppi e ulteriori danni. Guidando con dolore, ma sentendosi fisicamente in forma, ha iniziato a far fuori i piloti davanti a lui, passando in ottava posizione in quello che è stato uno sforzo incredibile su un terreno così insidioso.
I 13 punti in gara due gli hanno permesso di entrare nel weekend-off con un solo punto di svantaggio, mantenendolo ancora molto in questa serrata caccia al titolo. A 14 giorni dal GP di Germania, Gajser farà tutto il possibile per ritrovare la sua forma fisica e per assicurarsi di tornare a combattere in prima linea su una pista di Teutschenthal che predilige.

Arrivando a questa gara, sapevo che sarebbe stata estremamente dura, ma so quanto possa essere importante ogni singolo punto in questa battaglia per il campionato, quindi ho voluto provare. Nonostante l’infortunio, in realtà mi sentivo abbastanza bene, facendo registrare un tempo sul giro veloce nelle prove libere, ma non sono stato in grado di farne uno buono nelle prove cronometrate e questo ha davvero danneggiato le mie possibilità di partire tra i primi 10. Poi sfortunatamente, nella prima manche, sono stato raggiunto da un altro pilota che è caduto alla prima curva e ho dovuto rimontare quasi ultimo. Ho provato a riorganizzarmi ma un’altra caduta un giro dopo ha reso le cose molto difficili. Non mi sono arreso però e ho continuato a spingere e spingere e alla fine ho superato un paio di ragazzi per finire 19°. Ovviamente ero deluso, ma sentivo davvero di poter fare di meglio se fossi partito bene, cosa che fortunatamente ho fatto in gara due. Ho girato il primo giro al 12° posto e ho preso un bel ritmo su quella che era una pista davvero difficile. Sapevo di essere in forma e, anche se stavo male, ho lottato fino all’ottavo posto. Nel complesso, sono felice di aver segnato 15 punti cruciali e con un fine settimana liberi per rimettermi in salute, spero che da Teutschenthal, sarò in grado di tornare a lottare per le vittorie ancora una volta. Un grande ringraziamento al team per avermi supportato durante questa settimana difficile, apprezzo davvero tutto ciò che fai!

Sapevamo che questo weekend sarebbe stato difficile e lo è sicuramente. Nel complesso, tuttavia, sono molto orgoglioso dei giri che Tim ha fatto oggi perché continuare ad andare avanti su una pista così difficile è stato semplicemente fantastico. Non si arrende mai e si può davvero dire che ci prova così tanto in ogni manche. La prestazione in gara due, dopo la delusione di gara uno, è stata così impressionante e una grande spinta per la sua fiducia, che può ancora competere anche quando non è al suo meglio. Ora avrà due settimane per prepararsi per la prossima gara e dopo aver parlato con lui, so che sarà estremamente determinato a far sì che ciò accada!

Gajser battles hard to keep himself in the MXGP championship fight
In difficult conditions at the MXGP of Sardegna, Team HRC’s Tim Gajser fought for every single position in his two motos, eventually scoring 15 valuable points as he now sits just one behind the championship leader with eight rounds still to ride.
Coming into this weekend, a crash whilst practicing last week meant he was arriving in Sardinia nursing an injury, which would temper any expectations for what turned out to be the toughest test on this year’s calendar. The hot weather combined with the rough, deep sand of Riola Sardo were not the conditions the reigning MXGP champion was hoping for, but he was determined to do his best and not give up his red plate without a fight.
After a disjointed practice session, Gajser would only have 18th gate pick, which meant that he’d be starting from the outside on this updated Riola start-straight. This proved to be his downfall in the opening race as another rider crashed around the first bend and the Slovenian had nowhere to go, tipping over in the melee. As he got back on his bike, the rest of the field had all but disappeared and a difficult job became a lot harder. Like always though, he kept pushing throughout the entire race, always gaining on the 20th placed rider where he would begin scoring points. As the laps ticked down, he finally moved into 19th position, to give him two points.
A much better gate-drop in race two meant that he was just outside the top 10 as they rounded the first bend, already giving the Honda CRF450RW a boost of confidence that he could limit too much further damage. Riding in pain, but feeling physically fit, he began picking off the riders in front of him, moving through into 8th position in what was an amazing effort in such treacherous terrain.
The 13 points in race two meant that he now enters the weekend-off with just a one-point deficit, still keeping him very much in this extremely close title hunt. With 14 days until the MXGP of Germany, Gajser will be doing everything possible to regain his fitness and to make sure that he is back battling at the front of the field on a Teutschenthal track that he very much favours.

Coming into this race, I knew it would be extremely tough but I know how important that every single point can be in this championship battle so I wanted to try. Despite the injury, I actually felt pretty good, posting a fast laptime in free practice, but I wasn’t able to do a good one in the timed practice and this really hurt my chances of a top 10 start. Then unfortunately, in the first moto, I got caught up by another rider as he fell over round the first bend and I had to remount almost last. I tried to regroup but another crash a lap later made things very difficult. I didn’t give up though and kept pushing and pushing and eventually I passed a couple of guys to finish 19th. Obviously, I was disappointed but I really felt I could do better if I got a good start, which thankfully I did in race two. I rounded the first lap in 12th place and I got into a nice rhythm on what was a really difficult track. I knew I was fit, and although I was hurting, I battled through into eighth place. Overall, I am happy to have scored 15 crucial points and with a weekend off to get healthy, I hope that by Teutschenthal, I will be able to be back battling for wins once again. We knew this weekend would be a tough one and it definitely proved to be the case. Overall though, I am very proud of the rides that Tim put in today because to keep moving forward on such a difficult track was just amazing. He never gives up and you can really tell that he tries so hard in every moto. The performance in race two, after the disappointment of race one was just so impressive and a huge boost for his confidence, that he can still compete even when he isn’t at his best. He will now have two weeks to get ready for the next race and after speaking with him, I know that he’ll be extremely determined to make that happen!
