Presto ulteriori aggiornamenti….tramite COMUNICATO UFFICIALE!

The press conference is taking place in Rome in these minutes with which Tony Cairoli has made official his retirement, which will inevitably take place at the end of the 2021 season. Further updates soon….

Tony Cairoli: I stop racing for a complete World championship, but I will do some races, maybe some National, maybe some GP’s. I will continue to help KTM to develop the bikes to keep winning. I’m still fast.

THANKS TONY!
KTM EXPRESSES ITS MOST SINCERE GRATITUDE TO ANTONIO CAIROLI FOR HIS PHENOMENAL CAREER IN MOTOCROSS

18 years of career, 9 FIM World Championships, 93 Grands Prix won: Antonio Cairoli, motocross icon and official rider of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team, will move to the role of KTM ambassador at the end of 2021.

// With the legendary 222 on the table, Antonio has won 6 of his 9 FIM World Championships riding a KTM (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017)
// Cairoli has 93 victories and 177 podiums to his credit
// Tony is still in contention for the tenth FIM World title this season of racing
// In the future, Tony will provide his invaluable experience within the KTM Group

Antonio Cairoli, together with the KTM management, called a press conference in Rome a few hours ago where he presented his plans for the future: at the end of this season Tony will bring down the curtain on his phenomenal career in motocross (which sees him most titled rider ever, first among the Italians), to move to the role of KTM ambassador.

Together with Claudio de Carli and his faithful team of technicians, Cairoli has been a pillar of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team, both in terms of image and development, and in each of his 18 seasons as a factory driver he has won at least a Grand Prix.

One of the best memories of his long career in KTM is linked to the world title in the MXGP class won by Tony in 2010, the first for the Mattighofen manufacturer in the premier class. This success was followed by four more titles, all won on the KTM 350 SX-F, before triumphing again on the KTM 450 SX-F in 2017.

Today Tony is still in contention for the conquest of the tenth world title and on the eve of the FIM MXGP of Sardinia next weekend, the Sicilian rider is third in the general classification just 29 points from the top, while to his credit he has one victory and five podiums. finals in the nine rounds of the MXGP World Championship so far disputed.

At the end of the 2021 season Cairoli will make all his experience available to contribute to potential future projects of the KTM group, including the development of the motocross discipline and its accessibility to more segments of the public.

Tony Cairoli: “It wasn’t an easy decision. I’ve always said to pay little attention to numbers and statistics. For me and my family it would have been a success to win just one world title in my career, and what I have achieved is something truly special. I feel that the time has come to stop and everything around me confirms that it is the right decision; despite this, we are still in the running for the title and as always we are motivated and focused. I want to thank everyone who has helped me and have been close to me since I started racing the World Cup and all along my path, and of course I want to thank the fans for the enthusiasm and support they have given me over the years. I have felt an integral part of the KTM family from day one and we will continue our relationship, working together, just in a different way. At the end of the 2021 season there will still be many challenges to face, but at the moment our goal is clear ”.

Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsports Director: “Our story began in an amazing way because when Tony joined KTM we hadn’t yet won a title in the premier class and were developing the KTM 350 SX-F, so we had two challenges to win. ! The five consecutive world titles and the success of the “350 project” were key steps for us. Over the years our relationship has grown closer and our friendship has grown even more. Many of the victories won in the USA and in MXGP came precisely thanks to those early years with Tony and the trust he placed in us and in our vision of the future. We have not forgotten this and we will never forget it ”.

Robert Jonas, VP Motorsports Offroad: “We are so proud to have partnered with Tony for most of his career and to have made such a huge contribution to one of the best riders Motocross has ever seen. We started working together to race at the highest level with a bike that was a gamble and we certainly didn’t imagine the successes that came and the mark Tony would leave in MXGP. He has fans all over the world and some of the most avid are right here in the company. It will be strange not to see his orange 222 on track next season, but his passion for racing and his experience will continue to be a great asset to us. The story certainly does not end here ”.

Tony will continue to be a constant presence in the KTM family and an active figure in the Team Factory, even after the close of the 2021 World Championship, which will end on 10 November with the Mantua Grand Prix.
