MXGP prepara il “Piano B” multi-gara a sede singola per completare il programma traballante del 2021
La MXGP 2021 è stata ritardata due volte e ha subito la cancellazione dei Gran Premi di Svezia e Finlandia, nonché lo spostamento del round lettone. Le devastazioni della pandemia, in particolare con i viaggi internazionali, le politiche di quarantena e la presenza di varianti di Covid-19, significano che il 2021 è stato un altro anno difficile, costoso e frustrantemente incoerente per il promotore Infront Motor Racing.
Persistono speculazioni sulla stabilità del Gran Premio del Portogallo a fine ottobre e sulle tre partite “fuorilegge” in Argentina, Indonesia e Bali per concludere la stagione a novembre e dicembre. Sebbene quelle gare siano ancora all’orizzonte e alcuni governi stiano decidendo sullo status dei paesi per i viaggi quasi su base settimanale, si dice fortemente che MXGP inizierà a raddoppiare e triplicare i Gran Premi in determinate sedi per raggiungere un numero soddisfacente di gare.
Il primo doppio appuntamento vedrà il Gran Premio di Turchia ad Afyonkarahisar il 5 settembre, seguito dal Gran Premio di “Afyon” nella stessa sede tre giorni dopo per aumentare la scia degli eventi fino a nove per la stagione.
Infront ha ammesso di sperare ancora di mettere in scena gran parte del calendario rimanente dopo la Turchia, che prevede viaggi in Sardegna (La Sardegna è comunque Italia ma chi ha composto l’articolo lo vede come un viaggio diverso, noi crediamo che si faranno due/tre gare qui n.d.r.),Germania,Francia,Spagna,Portogallo e Italia prima di lasciare l’Europa per la finale a tre. È probabile che il Gran Premio del Trentino a Pietramurata, nel nord Italia, il 31 settembre, ultimo Gran Premio d’Europa dell’anno, ospiterà ancora più di un round.
“Per il Trentino abbiamo in mente di aumentare il numero di gare”, ha dichiarato in esclusiva David Luongo, CEO di Infront Motor Racing. “Per gli altri siamo ancora sul ‘Piano A’ ma dobbiamo gestire le regole poste dai governi e dobbiamo andare settimana per settimana. Ad esempio, la sentenza dalla Finlandia è arrivata solo la scorsa settimana e ora dicono che dal 26 agosto è possibile organizzare eventi solo con 50 persone. Era impossibile per un Gran Premio”.
“Dipendiamo dalle decisioni del governo”, ha sottolineato Luongo, sia per le restrizioni agli incontri pubblici, sia per la burocrazia di quarantena per il paddock MXGP. “È probabile che avremo ancora qualche cambiamento per la fine della stagione, ma faremo di tutto per avere 19 eventi (Pare assurdo portare a termine un campionato con un numero di gare simile n.d.r.). La cosa più importante è avere una stagione decente con un titolo che le persone si meritano. Siamo in questa missione da due anni ormai”.

MXGP preparing single venue multi-race ‘Plan B’ to complete shaky 2021 schedule
2021 MXGP has been twice delayed and suffered cancellation of the Swedish and Finnish Grands Prix as well as displacement of the Latvian round. The ravages of the pandemic, in particular with international travel, quarantine policies and the presence of Covid-19 variants, means 2021 has been another difficult, costly and frustratingly inconsistent year for promoter Infront Motor Racing.
Speculation persists over the stability of the Portuguese Grand Prix in late October and the three ‘flyaway’ fixtures in Argentina, Indonesia and Bali to finish the season in November and December. Although those races are still on the horizon, and some governments are ruling on countries’ status for travel almost on a weekly basis, it is highly rumoured that MXGP will start doubling and tripling Grands Prix at certain venues to reach a satisfactory number of races.
The first double-header will see the Grand Prix of Turkey at Afyonkarahisar on September 5th followed by the Grand Prix of ‘Afyon’ at the same venue three days later to hike the trail of events up to nine for the season.
Infront admitted they are still hopeful of staging much of the remaining calendar after Turkey that will involve trips to Sardinia, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and Italy before departing Europe for the final three. It’s likely that the Grand Prix of Trentino at Pietramurata in northern Italy on September 31st – the last European Grand Prix of the year – will again host more than one round.
“For Trentino we have in mind to increase the amount of races,” said Infront Motor Racing CEO David Luongo exclusively. “For the others we are still on ‘Plan A’ but we have to handle the rules placed by governments and we have to go week by week. As an example, the ruling from Finland came only last week and now they say from the 26th of August it is only possible to have events with 50 people. It was impossible for a Grand Prix.”
“We are dependent on the decisions of government,” Luongo underlined, both for restrictions on public gatherings as much as quarantine red-tape for the MXGP paddock. “It is probable that we will still have some changes for the end of the season but we will do all we can to have 19 events. The most important is to have a decent season with a title that people deserve. We have been on this mission for two years now.”
