Afyonkarahisar è ancora abbastanza nuovo nel calendario MXGP, avendo ospitato due GP nel 2018 e nel 2019, con vincitori del passato tra cui Thomas Covington, Jorge Prado e Jeffrey Herlings che hanno vinto in entrambe le occasioni in MXGP. Entrambi i Grand Prix sono stati un enorme successo, con l’organizzatore che ha ricevuto i premi “Best Infrastructure” e “Best Paddock” nel 2018 e nel 2019 consecutivamente.

Durante la pandemia di COVID-19, la Turchia ha gestito e tenuto sotto controllo con successo il virus con il suo forte sistema sanitario e quindi è stato deciso di organizzare un altro round di MXGP ad Afyonkarahisar, la Città dello Sport.

Il Gran Premio di Turchia di quest’anno ospiterà il primo doppio appuntamento del 2021 sotto gli auspici della Presidenza della Repubblica di Turchia. La MXGP della Turchia andrà avanti come inizialmente previsto al 4 ^° e 5 ^° di settembre, mentre il secondo evento, la MXGP di Afyon avrà luogo a metà settimana sul seguente Martedì e Mercoledì, il 7 e 8 settembre per sostituire il MXGP della Svezia che era stato precedentemente rinviato al 2022.

Insieme alle gare MXGP e MX2, il doppio appuntamento turco vedrà anche i round del campionato mondiale di motocross femminile FIM e l’ EMXOpen e l’ EMX2t presentati da FMF Racing.

Afyonkarahisar is still quite new to the MXGP calendar, having hosted two GP’s in 2018 and 2019, with past winners including the likes of Thomas Covington, Jorge Prado and Jeffrey Herlings who won at the venue on both occasions in MXGP. Both Grand Prix’s were a huge success, with the organiser being awarded the “Best Infrastructure” and “Best Paddock” awards in 2018 and 2019 consecutively.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Turkey has successfully managed and kept the virus under control with its strong health system and therefore it has been decided to hold one more round of MXGP in Afyonkarahisar, the City of Sports.

This year’s Turkish Grand Prix will host the first double-header of 2021 under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey. The MXGP of Turkey will go ahead as originally planned on the 4^th and 5^th of September, while the second event, the MXGP of Afyon will take place mid-week on the following Tuesday and Wednesday, the 7^th and 8^th of September to replace the MXGP of Sweden that was postponed previously to 2022.  

Along with the MXGP and MX2 races, the Turkish double-header will also see rounds of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship and the EMXOpen and EMX2t Presented by FMF Racing.
