Ferrandis vince la Moto 2 a Washougal per un altro podio
Dylan Ferrandis di Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing ha concluso bene con la sua quarta vittoria di manche della stagione nella Moto 2 al Washougal National. Il francese si è ripreso da una dura prima manche al quinto posto per continuare la sua striscia di podi ed espandere il suo vantaggio nel campionato Lucas Oil Pro Motocross 450MX. Aaron Plessinger e Christian Craig si sono uniti a lui nella top 10, finendo rispettivamente settimo e ottavo assoluto.
Washougal MX Park è noto per le sue condizioni difficili, le sezioni con ombre pesanti e il terreno scivoloso e compatto, e quest’anno non ha fatto eccezione. Ferrandis è partito alla grande, guadagnandosi gli onori di qualificazione più veloci nella classe regina. Purtroppo non è uscito bene dal cancello nella prima manche ed era nono dopo il primo giro. È arrivato sesto al terzo giro e, a cinque giri dalla fine, ha superato il suo rivale in campionato per rompere i primi cinque. Ha chiuso il divario fino al quarto posto, ma alla fine ha dovuto accontentarsi del quinto.
Il detentore della tabella rossa è tornato in Moto 2, mancando di poco l’holeshot, e poi si è rapidamente spostato in testa. Ha corso la sua gara davanti ma non è riuscito a staccarsi. Negli ultimi giri, la concorrenza ha ridotto il gap ma Ferrandis lo ha tenuto a bada e ha fatto un’ultima spinta per tagliare il traguardo con un vantaggio di 4,5 secondi. I suoi sforzi si sono assicurati il terzo posto assoluto e hanno guadagnato altri 15 punti per dargli un vantaggio di 47 punti nel campionato verso la pausa.
Anche Plessinger ha avuto un inizio difficile nella prima manche e si è ritrovato in fondo al gruppo dopo una caduta al primo giro. Il nativo dell’Ohio ha abbassato la testa ed è tornato al 12° posto con una carica impressionante. In Moto 2, è uscito oscillante ed era proprio lì con i suoi compagni di squadra che cercavano l’holeshot. È stato spostato al sesto posto, ma è rapidamente arrivato al quarto posto al primo giro. Plessinger è passato al terzo posto un giro dopo, ma è stato superato a metà strada e alla fine è arrivato quarto per il settimo posto assoluto.
Craig ha avuto un inizio di giornata difficile con un incidente nella prima sessione di prove libere. È tornato dalle avversità per avere una solida qualifica al sesto posto e poi ha fatto un’ottima partenza nella prima manche al quarto posto. Un po’ dolorante per l’incidente di prima, il californiano è riuscito a finire ottavo. In Moto 2, ha ottenuto un’altra grande partenza in quinta posizione, ma ancora una volta ha tagliato il traguardo ottavo per finire ottavo assoluto.
Il team Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing ha un paio di weekend liberi prima dell’Unadilla National il 14 agosto, round 8 del Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship a New Berlin, New York.

Ho dovuto spingere davvero forte e scavare in profondità. Sono davvero orgoglioso di aver vinto questa battaglia con Eli (Tomac) perché è un modello per me in questo sport. Non vedo l’ora di riposarmi un po’ prima di tornare al lavoro per essere pronto per gli ultimi cinque round”.

“È stata una giornata un po’ dura per me. Non mi piace molto quel tracciato. Era davvero liscio e ha molte ombre. Sono caduto al primo giro della prima manche e questo mi ha messo ultimo, ma ho messo una carica per tornare al 12° posto. Nella seconda manche, sono partito alla grande e ho guidato bene i primi tre quarti della manche, poi ho perso un po’ il ritmo. Nel complesso è stata una buona giornata per finire settimo assoluto dopo quella prima manche”.

“È stata una giornata difficile per me. Ho finito per avere una brutta caduta nella prima sessione di prove, quindi mi sono sentito spento per il resto della giornata. Non vedo l’ora della pausa. Lavoreremo su alcune cose per gli ultimi cinque round per finire bene”.

Ferrandis Wins Moto 2 at Washougal for Another Podium Finish Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing’s Dylan Ferrandis finished strong with his fourth moto win of the season in yesterday’s Moto 2 at the Washougal National. The Frenchman bounced back from a tough first moto in fifth to keep his podium streak going and expand his lead in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross 450MX Championship. Aaron Plessinger and Christian Craig joined him inside the top 10, finishing seventh and eighth overall, respectively. Washougal MX Park is known for its challenging conditions, sections with heavy shadows, and slick, hard-packed dirt, and this year was no exception. Ferrandis got off to a flying start, earning the fastest qualifier honors in the premier class. Unfortunately, he did not get off the gate well in the first moto and was ninth after the first lap. He made his way to sixth by Lap 3 and with five laps remaining, passed his championship rival to break the top five. He closed the gap to fourth but ultimately had to settle for fifth. The red-plate holder bounced back in Moto 2, narrowly missing the holeshot, and then quickly moved into the lead. He ran his own race up front but was unable to break away. In the final laps, the competition closed the gap but Ferrandis held him off and made a final push to cross the line with a 4.5-second lead. His efforts secured third overall and earned another 15 points to give him a 47-point lead in the championship heading into the break. Plessinger also had a tough start to the first moto and found himself at the back of the pack after a crash on the opening lap. The Ohio native put his head down and put on an impressive charge back to 12th. In Moto 2, he came out swinging and was right there with his teammates going for the holeshot. He was shuffled to sixth but quickly made his way to fourth on the first lap. Plessinger moved into third a lap later but was passed at the halfway mark and ultimately finished fourth for seventh overall. Craig had a tough start to the day with a crash in the first practice session. He came back from adversity to have a solid qualifying in sixth and then got a great start in the first moto in fourth. A bit sore from his crash earlier in the day, the Californian soldiered on to finish eighth. In Moto 2, he got another great start in fifth but once again crossed the line eighth to finish eighth overall. The Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing team gets a couple of weekends off before the Unadilla National on August 14, Round 8 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship in New Berlin, New York. We put our heads together as a team and made some changes and it showed in Moto 2. All three guys had amazing starts and were up front and rode great the whole moto. In the end, there were some positives to take away. We were able to open the points up some more with Dylan, and Christian and Aaron both had solid days. We struggled with the bike set up Moto 1 but bounced back with a win in Moto 2. I’m really proud to have won this battle with Eli (Tomac) as he’s such a role model for me in the sport. I don’t really like that track too much. It was really slick and has lots of shadows. I crashed on the first lap of the first moto and that put me dead last, but I put in a charge to get back to 12th. In the second moto, I got a great start and rode well the first three-quarters of the moto and then fell off the pace a little bit.
