MXGP si prepara per più “doppi” e “tripli” GP se i flyaway si rivelano impossibili

Le prossime dodici gare del 2021 MXGP si avventureranno in giro per l’Europa e raggiungeranno un totale di quindici round prima dei voli programmati per l’Argentina il 14 novembre e un back-to-back indonesiano il 28 novembre e il 5 dicembre che completeranno il target di diciotto eventi per il mondiale di quest’anno. A causa dell’impennata della variante delta, Infront Motor Racing sta già valutando come cambierà il calendario se i viaggi fuori dall’Europa diventano difficili da realizzare. La MotoGP ha già annullato il Gran Premio d’Australia a Phillip Island per il secondo anno consecutivo in favore di un’altra gara sull’Algarve International Circuit di Portimao, in Portogallo.

MXGP ha concluso una campagna condensata del 2020 con sei gare in soli due circuiti e Infront contemplerà una strategia simile se le date di Neuquen, Borobudur e Bali non possono andare avanti.

“Questa è l’idea, ma di sicuro è ancora troppo presto per dire se possiamo andare o meno”, ha ammesso il CEO David Luongo. “L’obiettivo è andare perché abbiamo un contratto e abbiamo la volontà dell’organizzatore e del governo di viaggiare. È un campionato del mondo, quindi dobbiamo fare il possibile per realizzare quei tre eventi ma, come l’anno scorso, se vediamo che è impossibile, dovremo adattare il campionato. L’idea è di moltiplicare – fare eventi doppi o tripli – alla fine della stagione per fare una serie tra 18-20 gare come abbiamo fatto nel 2020. Speriamo che nel 2022 con più vaccini e il green pass possiamo fare un calendario più normale e formato GP normale.”

MXGP è già stato ritardato due volte nel 2021, sta eseguendo un protocollo di sicurezza per il paddock, vedendo presenze di pubblico limitate ed è strutturato con un orario di un giorno per le classi MXGP e MX2.

Già si vocifera che il Gran Premio di Turchia del 5 settembre possa ospitare una seconda gara nella 12a e ultima data europea a Pietramurata, Arco di Trento in Italia il 31 ottobre, potrebbe essere estesa a due o forse tre appuntamenti di GP per chiudere la serie . “Potrebbe essere Arco perché è l’ultimo evento europeo e noi ci saremo comunque, così sarebbe il più facile per la logistica”, ha affermato Luongo.

MXGP braced for more ‘doubles’ & ‘triples’ if flyaways prove impossible

The next twelve races of 2021 MXGP will venture around Europe and will reach a total of fifteen rounds before the scheduled flyaways to Argentina on November 14^th and an Indonesian back-to-back on November 28^th and December 5^th that will complete the target of eighteen events for this year’s world championship. Due to the surge of the delta variant Infront Motor Racing are already considering how the calendar will alter if the trips outside of Europe become difficult to realise. MotoGP have already cancelled the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island for the second year in a row in favour of another race at the Algarve international Circuit in Portimao, Portugal.

MXGP ended a condensed 2020 campaign with six races at just two circuits and Infront will contemplate a similar strategy if the dates at Neuquen, Borobudur and Bali cannot go ahead.

“This is the idea but for sure it is still too early to say if we can go or not,” CEO David Luongo admitted. “The target is to go because we have a contract, and we have the will of the organiser and the government to travel. It is a world championship so we have to do what we can to make those three events but, like last year, if we see it is impossible then we will have to adapt the championship. The idea is to multiply – do double or triple events – at the end of the season to make a series between 18-20 races like we did in 2020. Hopefully in 2022 with more vaccines and the green passport we can make a more normal calendar and normal GP format.”

MXGP has already been delayed twice in 2021, is running a safety protocol for the paddock, seeing limited public attendances and is structured with a one-day timetable for the MXGP and MX2 classes.

There are already rumours that the Grand Prix of Turkey on September 5^th could stage a second race on the 12^th and final European date at Pietramurata, Arco di Trento in Italy on October 31^st could be extended to two or possibly three GP fixtures to close the series. “It could be Arco because it’s the last European event and we’ll be there anyway, like this it would be the easiest for logistics,” Luongo affirmed.
