Vittoria dominante in moto per Romain Febvre in Italia
Romain Febvre del Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team ha mantenuto il terzo posto nella classifica del Campionato Mondiale FIM MXGP Motocross con una schiacciante vittoria in moto a Maggiora nel nord Italia.
Il francese, nello stesso secondo del poleman durante le qualifiche mattutine, ha controllato la prima manche lungo tutto il drammatico tracciato in collina dopo aver portato la KX450-SR al suo secondo holeshot consecutivo. Guidando in modo impeccabile, era al comando completo per tutta la manche, aprendo decisamente un gap significativo sui suoi inseguitori durante i primi giri prima di aumentare ancora di più il suo ritmo dopo dieci minuti per andare sempre più chiaro, costruendo un vantaggio così importante da avere il tempo per ringraziare la sua squadra ai box nell’ultimo giro e festeggiare alla bandiera a scacchi con un enorme heel-clicker. Pochi minuti prima della seconda manche, nuvole pesanti hanno attraversato la pista e la pioggia è continuata per tutto il resto del pomeriggio, creando un imprevedibile fondo scivoloso sulle numerose salite e discese. Passando rapidamente al settimo posto da un undicesimo posto, il pilota Kawasaki ha avuto bisogno solo di un paio di passaggi durante la mezz’ora rimanente per ottenere la vittoria assoluta. Tutto sembrava andare secondo i piani fino a quando un momento imbarazzante sulla superficie infida gli è costato due posizioni; con i guanti ormai ricoperti di fango il francese è caduto altre due volte nelle fasi finali per prendere la bandiera a scacchi al dodicesimo. Quinto assoluto nella giornata, Romain mantiene il terzo posto nella classifica di campionato e si è avvicinato di tre punti al leader della serie.
Romain Febvre: “È stata davvero una buona prima manche! Ho ottenuto l’holeshot, ho condotto l’intera gara, ho avuto un buon feeling e non ho commesso errori. Sono così grato per tutto ciò che la squadra e i nostri sponsor hanno fatto per me; hanno fatto tutti un ottimo lavoro e oggi potrei premiarli e dimostrare che sono il più veloce. E so che mia moglie e il nostro bambino mi stavano guardando da casa e sarebbero stati ugualmente entusiasti. La mia seconda partenza non è stata così buona, ma ho guidato due buoni giri per tornare settimo; poi quando ero dietro a Jonass ho preso così tanto fango su occhiali e guanti, non mi sentivo a mio agio e sono caduto tre volte; e dopo la prima caduta ho preso così tanto fango sui miei guanti che Non riuscivo più a girare l’acceleratore con precisione. Ero in “modalità sopravvivenza” ma non volevo fermarmi perché avrei perso troppo tempo. Ovviamente sono deluso; sarebbe potuto essere un ottimo weekend dopo gara uno. ”
Ivo Monticelli ha girato meno di un secondo più lento del suo compagno di squadra KRT per assicurarsi la nona scelta del cancello durante le qualifiche e, vestito con lo speciale kit da gara dello sponsor di abbigliamento Alpinestars per il suo GP di casa, ha corso con fiducia nella top ten per i primi quattro giri della manche di apertura prima che alcune piccole scivolate lo spingessero indietro per finire dodicesimo. Un incidente iniziale nella seconda manche, colpita dalla pioggia, lo ha visto tornare al ventiseiesimo posto ad un certo punto, ma ha recuperato con determinazione per conquistare l’ultimo punto del campionato della giornata in ventesimo.
Ivo Monticelli: “La giornata è iniziata bene con un buon giro in qualifica e mi sentivo positivo dopo le cadute in Russia e Inghilterra. Sono più rilassato in allenamento, ma nella prima gara stavo guidando duro per finire dodicesimo dopo essere partito decimo. Ha piovuto per gara due e dopo dieci minuti mi sono dovuto fermare per gli occhiali nuovi; che mi ha lasciato ventiseiesimo ma sono tornato un po’ indietro per fare i primi venti al traguardo. Non sono i risultati che voglio, ma resto positivo. Almeno alla fine ho ottenuto punti; devi camminare prima di poter correre e so di avere la velocità così i risultati arriveranno. “

Dominant moto win for Romain Febvre in Italy
Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre retained third in the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship standings with an overwhelming moto victory at Maggiora in northern Italy.
The Frenchman, on the same second as the pole setter during morning Qualifying, controlled the first moto all the way around the dramatic hillside track after taking the KX450-SR to his second consecutive holeshot. Riding immaculately, he was in complete command throughout the moto, decisively opening up a significant gap over his chasers through the early laps before upping his pace yet more after ten minutes to move further and further clear, building such a commanding lead that he had time to acknowledge his pit crew on the final lap and celebrate at the chequered flag with a massive heel-clicker. Minutes before the second moto heavy clouds rolled across the track and rain persisted throughout the remainder of the afternoon to create an unpredictable slippery track surface on the numerous climbs and descents. Rapidly moving forward to seventh from an eleventh-placed start the Kawasaki rider needed just a couple more passes during the remaining half-an-hour to claim overall victory. All appeared to be going to plan until an awkward moment on the treacherous surface cost him two positions; his gloves now covered in mud the Frenchman fell two more times in the closing stages to take the chequered flag twelfth. Fifth overall on the day Romain retains third in the championship standings and has moved three points closer to the series pace-setter.
Romain Febvre: “That was a really good first moto! I got the holeshot, led the entire race, had a good feeling and didn’t make any mistakes. I am so grateful for everything the team and our sponsors have done for me; they have all done a really good job and today I could reward them and show I am the fastest. And I know my wife and our baby were watching me from home and would be equally excited. My second start was not so good but I rode two good laps to come back to seventh; then when I was behind Jonass I got so much mud on my goggles and gloves. I wasn’t comfortable and crashed three times; and after the first crash I got so much mud on my gloves that I could no longer twist the throttle precisely. I was in ‘survival mode’ but I didn’t want to stop as I would have lost too much time. Of course I’m disappointed; it could have been a very good weekend after race one. “
Ivo Monticelli lapped less than a second slower than his KRT teammate to secure ninth choice of gate during Qualifying and, clad in special race-kit from clothing sponsor Alpinestars for his home GP, raced confidently in the top ten for the first four laps of the opening moto before a few minor slips pushed him back to finish twelfth. An early incident in the rain-affected second moto saw him back to twenty-sixth at one stage but he recovered with determination to claim the final championship point of the day in twentieth.
Ivo Monticelli: “The day started well with a good lap in Qualifying and I was feeling positive after the crashes in Russia and England. I am more relaxed in training but I was riding stiff in the first race to finish twelfth after starting tenth. It rained for race two and I had to stop for fresh goggles after ten minutes; that left me twenty-sixth but I came back a little to make the top twenty at the finish. It’s not the results I want but I remain positive. At least I finally got points; you need to walk before you can run and I know I have the speed so the results will come. “
