Emozioni contrastanti per Jasikonis dopo il ritorno in MXGP
Arminas Jasikonis di Rockstar Energy Husqvarna è stato agrodolce il suo ritorno al campionato mondiale di motocross FIM nove mesi dopo il suo grave incidente a Mantova, che inizialmente si temeva potesse mettere fine alla carriera e cambiare la vita. Dopo il suo incidente in Italia il giovane lituano è stato trasportato in aereo in ospedale e posto in coma forzato. Fortunatamente, ha ancora mantenuto la sensazione nel suo corpo ed è stato in grado di lasciare uno stretto controllo medico dopo una settimana.
Da allora, il 23enne sta negoziando un periodo costante di recupero e riabilitazione, pur affrontando gli effetti dei danni ai nervi. Jasikonis ha scelto di non partecipare al Gran Premio di Russia di apertura della stagione, ma lo scorso fine settimana si è presentato al cancello di partenza a Matterley Basin, dove ha completato abbastanza giri per classificarsi 24° nella seconda manche.
“Certo, è davvero bello, davvero bello essere tornato … ma sono anche davvero, davvero non contento di come è andata”, ha detto in esclusiva. “Ho avuto un problema alla mano nella prima manche e un po’ di dolore. So che ho molti compiti da fare e ho guidato solo al 70% qui perché non potevo più spingere”.
“Questo è il mio punto di partenza”, ha aggiunto. “Una piccola parte di me è felice di essere tornata, ma un’altra grande parte non è felice ed è molto motivata. Fisicamente so di essere bravo. Nei test e in tutto ciò che facciamo ogni giorno vediamo che sta andando bene…il problema è che manca tutto il tempo di gara. Sono sicuro che la prossima volta miglioreremo”.
Jasikonis ha vinto una manche in Lettonia la scorsa estate e ha conquistato due podi prima del successo a Mantova.

Mixed emotions for Jasikonis after MXGP return
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Arminas Jasikonis was bittersweet on his return to FIM Motocross World Championship racing nine months since his serious accident at Mantova that was initially feared to be career-ending and life-altering. After his crash in Italy the young Lithuanian was airlifted to hospital and placed into a forced coma. Fortunately, he still retained feeling in his body and was able to leave close medical supervision after a week.
Since then, the 23-year-old has been negotiating a steady period of recuperation and rehabilitation, while still dealing with the effects of nerve damage. Jasikonis elected against contesting the season-opening Grand Prix of Russia but took to the start gate at Matterley Basin last weekend where he completed enough laps to rank 24th in the second moto.
“Of course, it’s really cool, really nice to be back…but I’m also really, really not happy with how today went,” he said exclusively. “I had an issue with my hand in the first moto and some pain. I know I have a lot of homework to do and I only rode 70% here because I could not push anymore.”
“This is my starting point,” he added. “A small part of me is happy to be back but another big part is not happy and is very motivated. Physically I’m know I am good. In the tests and everything we do each day we see it is going [well]…the problem is missing all the racing time. I’m sure we’ll be better at the next one.”
Jasikonis won a moto in Latvia last summer and took two podium finishes before his smash at Mantova.
