Ferrandis recupera punti di vantaggio a High Point National
Dylan Ferrandis ha rimesso la sua Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing YZ450F in cima al podio ad High Point National di ieri a Mount Morris, in Pennsylvania. Il rookie ha mostrato ancora una volta il suo spirito combattivo, battendo i suoi rivali in un’epica battaglia di Moto 2 per segnare un paio di secondi posti e recuperare la testa dei punti nel campionato Lucas Oil Pro Motocross 450MX. Aaron Plessinger ha concluso la giornata al sesto posto con un punteggio di 5-8. Christian Craig si è ripreso dopo un paio di cadute chiudendo 11° (11-10).
Ferrandis è partito bene dal cancello nella prima manche ma si è un po’ sbilanciato e si è ritrovato ottavo. Il francese è arrivato quarto al terzo giro e ha continuato a fare giri veloci sul tracciato tecnico. Prima della metà del percorso, è passato al terzo posto dopo che il suo rivale in campionato è caduto e poi, a tre giri dalla fine, è passato al secondo posto quando le condizioni difficili hanno colpito anche un altro pilota davanti.
Nella seconda manche, Ferrandis era tra i primi cinque dopo la partenza e poi ha passato Plessinger per il terzo posto al terzo giro. Il leader della tabella rossa è passato in corsa, passandolo alla curva del cartellone nel giro successivo. Non volendo rinunciare alla lotta, Ferrandis ha recuperato il terzo posto e ha cercato di creare un gap, ma alla fine è stato riportato indietro. La coppia ha poi raggiunto il secondo classificato, dando vita a un’altra emozionante battaglia mentre il trio lottava per la posizione. Alla fine, il campione 250MX 2020 è uscito in testa a sei giri dalla fine e, mentre la concorrenza ha cercato di mantenere la pressione, ha mantenuto il secondo posto per ottenere la vittoria assoluta con un vantaggio di tre punti.
È stata una giornata mista per Plessinger, che ha avuto una brutta partenza nella prima manche ma ha messo su una carica impressionante attraverso il gruppo. È entrato nella top 10 dopo il primo giro e poi è riuscito a raggiungere il quinto posto prima della metà del percorso, dove avrebbe concluso. Il nativo dell’Ohio è entrato in Moto 2 con molta fiducia ed è volato via dal cancello, mancando di poco l’holeshot. Correva secondo ma è stato superato dopo il primo giro. Seduto al terzo posto, Plessinger è stato coinvolto in una battaglia tra più piloti che prima lo ha visto passare dal suo compagno di squadra e poi è scivolato al sesto posto al giro 4. Ha cercato di reagire ma ha avuto difficoltà a trovare lo stesso flusso dalla prima manche, alla fine tagliando il traguardo ottavo per concludere la giornata sesto assoluto.
Craig è partito benissimo, terzo, prima di essere passato più tardi nel primo giro della Moto 1. Purtroppo è caduto pochi giri dopo, passando dal quarto al dodicesimo. Il californiano ha recuperato velocemente una posizione per poi mantenersi 11° fino al traguardo. Dopo l’inizio della Moto 2, Craig era settimo, ma ha continuato a lottare con le condizioni difficili e ha dovuto riprendersi da un altro incidente per terminare la manche decimo per l’11° assoluto.
Il team Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing si prende un fine settimana libero prima di dirigersi al RedBud National, Round 4 del Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship il 3 luglio a Buchanan, nel Michigan.

“Questo fine settimana ha avuto degli alti e bassi. Ero davvero contento della mia guida nella prima manche. Ho avuto una brutta partenza, ma ho avuto un ottimo flusso e sono tornato al quinto posto. Sono andato alla seconda manche molto fiducioso e ho avuto una partenza fantastica, ma non sono riuscito a trovare quel flusso che avevo nella prima manche e sono tornato all’ottavo posto. La pista era davvero dura. C’erano alcuni punti che erano asciutti e alcuni punti che erano morbidi. Quindi è stato decisamente strano, ma abbiamo un fine settimana libero e torneremo al lavoro e ci prepareremo per RedBud!”

Ferrandis Reclaims Points Lead at High Point National
Dylan Ferrandis put his Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing YZ450F back on the top of the box at yesterday’s High Point National in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania. The rookie once again showed his fighting spirit, besting his rivals in an epic Moto 2 battle to score a pair of runner-up finishes and reclaim the points lead in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross 450MX Championship. Aaron Plessinger ended the day sixth overall with a 5-8 tally. Christian Craig rebounded after a couple of crashes to finish 11th (11-10).
Ferrandis got a good start off the gate in the first moto but got a little bit sideways and found himself back in eighth. The Frenchman charged his way to fourth by Lap 3 and kept putting in fast laps on the technical track. Before the halfway mark, he advanced to third after his championship rival went down, and then with three laps to go, he moved into second when the challenging conditions also caught out another rider up front.
In the second moto, Ferrandis was in the top five after the start and then passed Plessinger for third on Lap 3. The red plate holder charged through, passing him at the billboard turn on the following lap. Unwilling to give up the fight, Ferrandis reclaimed third and tried to build a gap, but he ultimately was reeled back in. The pair then caught up to the second-place rider, making for another thrilling battle as the trio jockeyed for position. Ultimately, the 2020 250MX Champion came out on top with six laps to go, and while the competition tried to keep the pressure on, he held onto the runner-up position to take the overall victory and leave with a three-point advantage.
It was a mixed day for Plessinger, who got a bad start in the first moto but put on an impressive charge through the pack. He broke into the top 10 after the first lap and then worked his way to fifth before the halfway point, where he would finish. The Ohio native went into Moto 2 with a lot of confidence and flew off the gate, narrowly missing the holeshot. He was running second but was passed after the first lap. Sitting in third, Plessinger was caught in a multi-rider battle that first had him passed by his teammate and then shuffled to sixth on Lap 4. He tried to fight back but had a hard time finding the same flow from the first moto, ultimately crossing the line eighth to end the day sixth overall.
Craig got off to a great start in third before being passed later on in the opening lap of Moto 1. Unfortunately, he had a crash a few laps later, going from fourth to 12th. The Californian quickly recovered a position and then maintained 11th to the finish. After the start of Moto 2, Craig was seventh but continued to struggle with the challenging conditions and had to bounce back from another crash to end the moto 10th for 11th overall.
The Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing team gets a weekend off before heading to the RedBud National, Round 4 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship on July 3 in Buchanan, Michigan.

“This weekend had some ups and downs. I was really happy with my riding in the first moto. I got a really bad start but had a really good flow going and came back to fifth place. I went into the second moto really confident and got an awesome start, but I couldn’t really find that flow that I had in the first moto, and I dropped back to eighth. The track was really tough. There were some spots that were dry and some spots that were soft. So it was definitely weird, but we have a weekend off and will get back to work and get ready for RedBud!”
