Ferrandis segna la vittoria del Motocross Maiden 450 Pro all’apertura della stagione
Dylan Ferrandis di Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing ha goduto di un debutto stellare nella classe Lucas Oil Pro Motocross 450, conquistando la vittoria assoluta con un punteggio di 1-3 all’apertura della stagione di ieri al Fox Raceway di Pala, in California. Ha anche segnato la prima vittoria della squadra nella classe regina, che è stata resa più dolce con un doppio podio quando Aaron Plessinger ha concluso la giornata al terzo posto dopo un ottimo secondo posto nella seconda manche (4-2). All’inizio della giornata, Ferrandis ha aperto la strada alla squadra, qualificandosi quarto e poi facendo un’ottima partenza nella prima manche in seconda posizione. Anche se è stato superato poco dopo, il francese ha mantenuto la calma in terza posizione e hanno recuperato la seconda posizione dopo che il leader è sceso a quattro giri dall’inizio della gara. Seduto proprio alle calcagna del nuovo leader, è stato in grado di prendere il comando un giro dopo e ha costantemente costruito un comodo divario per assicurarsi la sua prima vittoria in manche nella sua prima gara nella classe regina. Nella seconda manche, il Campione 250MX 2020 è tornato ottavo dopo la partenza. Imperterrito, ha abbassato la testa e si è rapidamente fatto strada fino al sesto posto. In una battaglia tra più piloti per il quarto posto, Ferrandis ha avuto la meglio intorno alla metà del percorso. È passato al terzo posto pochi giri dopo, dove alla fine ha concluso, rivendicando la sua prima vittoria assoluta nella 450MX.
Plessinger è partito bene in sesta posizione dalla nona scelta del cancello. È passato in quinta prima della metà del percorso e poi ha continuato a caricare. All’ultimo giro, il nativo dell’Ohio ha effettuato il sorpasso per il quarto posto e lo ha mantenuto fino alla bandiera a scacchi. Nella seconda manche, Plessinger ha ottenuto l’inizio che stava cercando e ha afferrato l’holeshot. Si è poi spostato al secondo posto, ma ha tenuto d’occhio il leader e ha fatto alcuni giri veloci. I due sono stati in grado di creare un comodo distacco dal resto del gruppo e Plessinger ha fatto alcuni tentativi per passare per il comando ma alla fine ha perso un po’ di terreno. Seduto comodamente al secondo posto, il Campione 250MX 2018 ha portato a casa il suo primo podio assoluto nella classe 450 con un terzo posto.
Anche Craig ha avuto un buon inizio di giornata, qualificandosi ottavo. Non ha avuto la partenza che cercava al di fuori della top 10, ma è riuscito a risalire fino al nono posto. Con il passare del tempo, ha faticato a trovare la sua zona di comfort nelle condizioni difficili, finendo 11°. Nella seconda manche, Craig è partito molto meglio in settima posizione. Il californiano è stato riportato all’11° posto, ma a quattro giri dalla fine ha trovato il suo flusso in pista ed è stato in grado di risalire fino al nono posto per concludere la giornata al 12° posto assoluto.
Ferrandis lascia la California del sud in testa alla classifica, mentre Plessinger è terzo a pari merito con 40 punti con il vincitore della Moto 2. Il prossimo fine settimana il team Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing si dirigerà al Thunder Valley Motocross Park a Lakewood, in Colorado, per il Round 2 del Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship il 5 giugno.

Ferrandis Scores Maiden 450 Pro Motocross Victory at Season Opener Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing’s Dylan Ferrandis enjoyed a stellar debut in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross 450 class, taking the overall win with a 1-3 tally at yesterday’s season opener at Fox Raceway in Pala, California. It also marked the team’s first victory in the premier class, which was made sweeter with a double podium as Aaron Plessinger ended the day third overall after a strong runner-up finish in the second moto (4-2). Christian Craig had a solid start in the challenging conditions, finishing 12th overall with an 11-9 tally. Earlier in the day, Ferrandis led the way for the team, qualifying fourth and then got a great start in the first moto in second. Although he was passed shortly after, the Frenchmen kept his cool in third and reclaimed second after the leader went down four laps into the race. Sitting right on the heels of the new frontrunner, he was able to take over the lead a lap later and steadily built a comfortable gap to secure his first moto win in his first race in the premier class. In the second moto, the 2020 250MX Champion was back in eighth after the start. Undeterred, he put his head down and quickly fought his way forward to sixth. In a multi-rider battle for fourth, Ferrandis came out on top around the halfway mark. He advanced to third a few laps later, where he ultimately finished, claiming his first overall 450MX victory. Plessinger had a good start in sixth from the ninth gate pick. He moved into fifth before the halfway point and then kept charging. On the final lap, the Ohio native made the pass for fourth and held onto it to the checkered flag. In the second moto, Plessinger got the start he was looking for and grabbed the holeshot. He was then shuffled to second but kept the leader in sight and threw down some fast laps. The pair were able to build a comfortable gap on the rest of the field, and Plessinger made a few attempts to pass for the lead but ultimately lost a little bit of ground. Sitting comfortably in the runner-up position, the 2018 250MX Champion brought it home to score his first overall podium in the 450 class with a third-place result. Craig also had a good start to the day, qualifying eighth. He didn’t get the start he was looking for outside of the top 10 but was able to work his way up to ninth. As the race wore on, he struggled to find his comfort zone in the challenging conditions, ultimately finishing 11th. In the second moto, Craig got a much better start in seventh. The Californian was shuffled back to 11th, but with four laps to go, he found his flow on the track and was able to advance back to ninth to end the day 12th overall. Ferrandis leaves Southern California with the points lead, while Plessinger sits third tied at 40 points with the Moto 2 winner. Next weekend the Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing team heads to Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Lakewood, Colorado, for Round 2 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship on June 5.
