Hitachi KTM fuelled Milwaukee e il pilota Bas Vaessen stava gareggiando nel primo round del 2021 ACU British Motocross Championship a Culham il 1 ° maggio, quando purtroppo è caduto nelle prime fasi della gara di apertura della MX2. La gara è stata contrassegnata con la bandiera rossa per consentire al team medico di occuparsi delle sue ferite e una volta stabilizzato a bordo pista, è stato trasferito all’ospedale di Oxford. Il team desidera offrire la nostra sincera gratitudine alle attività di RHL e al loro team medico all’evento per il modo molto attento e professionale in cui è stato gestito l’incidente con Bas. Anche il team manager Bryan Connolly e Stephen Sword (team rider coach) devono essere lodati per le loro azioni rapide per garantire che Bas abbia ricevuto la migliore cura e attenzione che ha richiesto in pista.

Inizialmente Bas è stato in terapia intensiva in ospedale per un certo numero di giorni e ha fatto buoni progressi, che successivamente gli hanno permesso di essere trasferito nel reparto di terapia intensiva media. Da allora, è migliorato ulteriormente per essere nella sua stanza dove segue anche la sua fisioterapia quotidiana. I medici sono soddisfatti dei suoi progressi fino ad oggi, che sono stati indubbiamente aiutati dal suo alto livello di forma fisica. La sua riabilitazione continuerà quotidianamente, con un futuro trasferimento in una struttura specialistica di riabilitazione spinale quando i medici stabiliranno che è il momento giusto per farlo.

Gli ultimi 10 giorni sono stati anche impegnativi per la fidanzata di Bas, Bente, mamma e papà, che sono stati tutti al suo fianco da quando è stato ricoverato in ospedale. L’effetto su tutta la squadra, i nostri sponsor e molti altri amici e fan di Bas è stato molto evidente dai tanti messaggi di supporto, e-mail, telefonate che tutti hanno ricevuto da tutte le parti della “famiglia motocross” in tutto il mondo.

Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee rider Bas Vaessen was competing in the first round of the 2021 ACU British Motocross Championship at Culham on May 01 when he unfortunately crashed in the early stages of the opening MX2 race. The race was red flagged to allow the medical team to attend to his injuries and once he was stabilised track-side, he was transferred to hospital in Oxford. The team wish to offer our sincere gratitude to RHL Activities and their medical team at the event for the very caring and professional way that the incident with Bas was handled. Team manager Bryan Connolly and Stephen Sword (team rider coach) are also to be commended on their swift actions to ensure that Bas received the best care and attention that he required at the track.

Initially Bas was in the ICU in the hospital for a number of days and made good progress, which subsequently allowed him to be moved to the medium ICU ward. Since then, he has improved further to be in his own room where he also goes through his daily physiotherapy. The doctors are pleased with his progress to date, which has undoubtedly been helped by his high level of fitness. His rehabilitation will continue on a daily basis, with a future move to a specialist spinal rehab facility when the doctors determine that the time is right to do so.

The past 10 days has also been challenging for Bas’ girlfriend Bente, Mum and Dad, who have all been by his bedside since he was hospitalised. The effect on all of the team, our sponsors and Bas’ many other friends and fans has been very evident by the many supportive messages, emails, phone calls that everyone has received from all parts of the “motocross family” throughout the world.
