Beaton: “Sono pronto a scommettere che Jack Miller è uno dei ragazzi più veloci della MotoGP su una moto da cross”
La lunga off-season MXGP ha dato ai piloti il tempo di allenarsi, testare e fare pratica evitando le peggiori restrizioni di viaggio europee e il team ufficiale Rockstar Energy Husqvarna MX2 ha completato diverse settimane di lavoro in Catalogna prima della campagna 2021. In quel periodo, il pilota di punta Jed Beaton si è unito al collega australiano e pilota del Ducati Lenovo Team Jack Miller per alcune azioni di motocross prima che quest’ultimo volasse in Qatar per i test e i primi due GP.
“Correva quando era più giovane, quindi sa cosa fare”, dice Beaton. “È stato bello avere tempo per fare risate con un altro australiano. È stato molto divertente esercitarsi con lui. Non ho visto nessuno degli altri piloti della MotoGP in Motocross, ma sono pronto a scommettere che è uno dei più veloci su una moto da cross “.
La coppia ha visitato il famoso circuito del Roccos Ranch, adiacente al circuito della MotoGP Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, dove il 23enne pilota MX2 ha sperimentato una nuova disciplina del “fuoristrada”.
“Un giorno sono andato in tilt con lui ed è stato uno dei giorni più divertenti che ho passato in sella da molto, molto tempo perché era completamente diverso e nuovo di zecca per me”, dice Beaton. “Non sono riuscito a togliermi il sorriso dalla faccia.”
Beaton è arrivato 4 ° nella serie MX2 del 2020 ed è uno dei nomi destinati a sfidare artisti del calibro di Tom Vialle e Jago Geerts per il campionato nel ’21. Rispetto alla preparazione e all’intensità del tentativo di avere successo nel motocross, Beaton ha apprezzato l’atteggiamento e l’apertura dell’approccio di Miller; lui stesso al microscopio per consegnare sull’asfalto con la Desmosedici quest’estate. In particolare la tendenza delle star della MotoGP a guidare insieme moto diverse per sopperire alla mancanza di tempo sulle moto da corsa.
“È pazzo e non gliene frega niente”, ride Beaton. “È davvero appassionato di motocross e di guida. Mi piace la mentalità che hanno quei ragazzi. Non hanno paura di allenarsi o viaggiare insieme. Sembra che si divertano sempre. Con noi, penso che siamo più riservati su ciò che stiamo facendo. Rispetto che facciano molte cose insieme, è piuttosto interessante. “
PS: Capita a pennello la vicenda successa ieri sera nel 2° GP del Qatar tra Mir e Miller dove appunto la frase di Jed Beaton fa capire quanto siano “fuori di melone” i piloti….:-)

Beaton: “I’m willing to bet Jack Miller is one of the fastest MotoGP guys on a motocross bike”
The elongated MXGP off-season has given riders time to train, test and practice while avoid the worst of European travel restrictions and the factory Rockstar Energy Husqvarna MX2 team completed several weeks of work in Catalunya ahead of the 2021 campaign. In that stint, lead rider Jed Beaton linked up with fellow Australian and MotoGP works Ducati Lenovo Team racer Jack Miller for some motocross action before the latter flew to Qatar for testing and the opening two GPs.
“He used to race when he was younger so he knows half of what to do,” Beaton says. “It was good to have a laugh with another Aussie. He was good fun to practice with. I haven’t seen any of the other MotoGP riders on the dirt but I’m willing to bet he is one of the fastest on a motocross bike.”
The pair visited the popular circuit of Roccos Ranch, adjacent to the MotoGP venue Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya where the 23-year old MX2 hotshot experienced a new discipline of ‘off-road’.
“I went flat-tracking with him one day and it was one of the funniest days riding I’ve had in a long, long time because it was completely different and brand new for me,” Beaton says. “I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.”
Beaton finished 4th in the 2020 MX2 series and is one of the names pegged to challenge the likes of Tom Vialle and Jago Geerts for the championship in ’21. Compared to the preparation and intensity of trying to succeed in motocross Beaton liked the attitude and openness of Miller’s approach; himself under the microscope to deliver on the asphalt with the Desmosedici this summer. In particular the tendency MotoGP stars have to ride different bikes together to compensate for the lack of time on race machinery.
“He’s crazy and doesn’t care a jot,” Beaton laughs. “He’s really into motocross and riding. I like the mentality those guys have. They are not afraid to train or ride together. They always seem to be having fun. With us, I think we’re more secretive about what we are doing. I respect they do a lot of things together, it’s pretty cool.”
