Dal mare alla montagna
Dopo un percorso sulle rive del Mar Rosso, le montagne aspettano i concorrenti della decima speciale della 43a Dakar. Diverse piste sabbiose permetteranno a corridori e piloti di accelerare il passo, ma dovranno stare attenti a non perdersi: un errore di navigazione potrebbe costar loro caro e, a soli due giorni dalla fine della giornata prima dell’arrivo a Jeddah , ogni minuto sarà conteggiato.

Nacho Cornejo ha preso il comando al secondo tempo, con appena 37 ‘su Joan Barreda e 49’ su Ricky Brabec. Finora la Honda sta dominando la gara con la notevole eccezione di Kevin Benavides, che è scivolato al nono posto a 4’51 ‘!

Brabec colpisce di nuovo in montagna
Le moto appena iniziata la parte collinare dello speciale di oggi vede Ricky Brabec tornare in testa al km 126 di 30 ‘su Nacho Cornejo mentre Joan Barreda è in ritardo. Kevin Benavides, che apre la strada oggi, è stato scavalcato da Brabec ed è ora a quasi 4’30 ‘dall’americano nella classifica provvisoria.

Colpo di scena, Nacho Cornejo è caduto al km 252, l’attuale leader della classifica generale è uscito indenne ed è tornato in marcia, vedremo a fine giornata quanto ha perso.

Ricky Brabec è il vincitore della tappa 10. L’americano ha preso in mano le redini al km 126 e non si è mai guardato indietro nonostante abbia dovuto aprire la strada dopo aver sorpassato Nacho Cornejo. È la sua terza vittoria dell’anno (incluso il prologo) e la sua sesta assoluta!

13:45 Cornejo fuori!
Un nervoso Nacho Cornejo si è sottoposto a visita medica dopo essere salito al traguardo dopo la caduta al km 252. Il cileno, partito oggi in testa alla classifica generale, non ha altra scelta che ritirarsi dalla gara e lasciare i compagni di squadra Ricky Brabec e Kevin Benavides sfidarsi per la vittoria.

13:11 Honda segna 1-2-3!
Kevin Benavides è arrivato terzo oggi, completando un 1-2-3 Honda sia in classifica a tappe che in classifica generale. Nacho Cornejo non è più il leader assoluto dopo aver perso 17’42 ‘contro Ricky Brabec. Il nuovo leader, Kevin Benavides, è poco più di un minuto davanti a Ricky Brabec e Nacho Cornejo con due tappe al traguardo a Gedda. Tutto sommato, una splendida giornata per i Wings!

12:54 Brabec si prende il bottino!

Il campione in carica Ricky Brabec va ancora forte al km 285, davanti a Joan Barreda di 2’30 ‘e Matthias Walkner di oltre cinque minuti. Nel frattempo, Nacho Cornejo perde 10’41 ‘dopo la caduta, che non è ancora sufficiente per far cadere il cileno dalla testa della classifica.

I motociclisti se ne vanno davvero come un pipistrello dall’inferno oggi! Alcuni di loro hanno già raggiunto i 200 km. Ricky Brabec è ancora in testa, 36 ″ di vantaggio su Nacho Cornejo e 1′42 ″ su Joan Barreda, che è leggermente attenuato. Kevin Benavides è di nuovo in difficoltà a 4′54 ″ dal leader.

10:27 Benavides torna lentamente alla lite

Jugla e Bispo hanno stretto i denti per andare avanti nonostante le difficoltà e le cadute, ma alla fine la stanchezza li ha sopraffatti. I soldi intelligenti dicono che torneranno!

Kevin Benavides è stato il primo motociclista a iniziare la decima speciale. L’argentino è al secondo posto assoluto, a 11′24 ″ da Nacho Cornejo. Riuscirà a vincere la sfida di aprire la strada e ridurre quel deficit?

07:30 Cornejo apre un leggero gap
Ieri, Nacho Cornejo ha dimostrato il suo talento di navigazione. Anche se ha dovuto aprire la strada ai suoi rivali, ha concesso solo 1’34 ’’ al vincitore di tappa Kevin Benavides ed è finito sul podio della giornata. In assenza degli infortunati Toby Price e Xavier De Soultrait o Ross Branch, usciti dalla gara a causa di un motore rotto, Cornejo potrebbe approfittare di partire dietro Kevin Benavides e Ricky Brabec per aumentare il suo vantaggio in classifica generale …

    A rattled Nacho Cornejo has undergone a medical examination after soldiering on to the finish following his crash at km 252. The Chilean, who started today’s stage in the overall lead, has been left with no choice but to withdraw from the race and leave his teammates Ricky Brabec and Kevin Benavides to duke it out for the win.

    Kevin Benavides came in third today, rounding off a Honda 1-2-3 both in the stage classification and in the general standings. Nacho Cornejo is no longer the overall leader after losing 17’42’ to Ricky Brabec. The new leader, Kevin Benavides, is just over a minute ahead of Ricky Brabec and Nacho Cornejo with two stages to go until the finish in Jeddah. All in all, a great day for the Wings!

    Ricky Brabec is the winner of stage 10. The American took the reins at km 126 and never looked back despite having to open the way after overtaking Nacho Cornejo. It’s his third win of the year (including the prologue) and his sixth overall!

    Ricky Brabec has wrapped up the stage and will very likely take his second win of the year. Joan Barreda will have to settle for second, while Kevin Benavides, Matthias Walkner and Skyler Howes fight for third place.

    Defending champion Ricky Brabec is still going strong at km 285, leading Joan Barreda by 2’30’ and Matthias Walkner by over five minutes. Meanwhile, Nacho Cornejo is losing 10’41’ after his crash, which is still not enough to topple the Chilean rider from the overall lead.

    Skyler Howes, sitting in fourth place, remains the top KTM man in the provisional standings at km 204. However, the American is just under four minutes behind the leader. Matthias Walkner is 4’04’ back, while Daniel Sanders is 5’23’ adrift and Sam Sunderland is losing over eight minutes!

    Nacho Cornejo has taken over the lead at the second time check by just 37′ over Joan Barreda and 49′ over Ricky Brabec. Honda are dominating the race so far with the notable exception of Kevin Benavides, who has slipped to ninth place at 4’51’!

    Kevin Benavides is losing almost five minutes to new leader Nacho Cornejo at km 90. The Chilean is leading his HRC teammates Joan Barreda and Ricky Brabec, while Matthias Walkner is about a minute and a half back. The pressure is mounting for Benavides!

    Matthias Walkner, rookie Daniel Sanders and Sam Sunderland are already losing almost two minutes to Kevin Benavides after 40 kilometres. A cautious start for the KTM trio!

    Kevin Benavides still leads at WP1, ahead of Ricky Brabec, but Skyler Howes has now risen to third place at 23′. Joan Barreda is running in fourth place, while Nacho Cornejo is fifth at just 38′ back.

    The first biker out of the starting blocks, Kevin Benavides, leads the stage by 16″ over Ricky Brabec and 30″ over Joan Barreda, who hurt his leg in a crash yesterday. Only seven bikers have gone through WP1 so far.

    Adrien Van Beveren is the only remaining factory Yamaha biker in the race after Ross Branch was knocked out by a mechanical yesterday. The Frenchman finished the stage fifth, which could have been his best performance so far, but he was handed down a 15-minute penalty after the special. He is now 11th overall at 1 h 17 back. 

  20. 08:15 Gyenes gains time on Gelažninkas

    Reigning champion Emanuel Gyenes won the previous stage in the Original by Motul category for bikers racing without assistance, clawing almost 20 minutes back from Arūnas Gelažninkas in the process. However, the Lithuanian is still almost 45 minutes ahead in the general classification. Gelažninkas will be seeking to consolidate his position with three stages to go… 

  21. 08:10 It’s over for Jugla and Bispo

    Stage 9 was the end of the road for Sara Jugla and Pascal Bispo. After being relegated to the ‘Dakar Experience’ on Friday, the two bikers saw the writing on the wall 265 km into the loop stage around Neom. Jugla and Bispo gritted their teeth to keep going despite their difficulties and crashes, but fatigue overwhelmed them in the end. The smart money says they’ll be back!

    Kevin Benavides was the first biker to start the tenth special. The Argentinian is sitting in second place overall, 11′24″ behind Nacho Cornejo. Will he manage to overcome the challenge of opening the way and narrow down that deficit?
