A causa delle difficoltà incontrate nel finire la tappa 5 da un numero significativo di concorrenti, si è deciso di ritardare di 1 ora e 30 minuti la partenza dei corridori e degli equipaggi dal bivacco di Al Qaisumah. Il percorso della speciale della tappa 6 è stato quindi accorciato di cento chilometri per rendere il programma meno impegnativo. Tuttavia, i concorrenti dovranno ancora affrontare sabbia e dune. Anche se le capacità di navigazione giocheranno ancora un ruolo decisivo nell’esito di questa speciale, anche le capacità fisiche di riders e drivers saranno messe a dura prova, richiedendo loro uno sforzo considerevole. Dopodiché, si meriteranno pienamente il giorno di riposo che si svolgerà ad Ha’il.

Joan Barreda è ancora una volta trionfante al completamento del sesto speciale. Il pilota HRC vince per la terza volta quest’anno, a soli 13 secondi dalla Yamaha di Ross Branch e 53 “davanti alla KTM di Daniel Sanders.
14:27 De Soultrait guadagna 1’06 su Benavides
Finendo alle spalle di Xavier De Soultrait, Kevin Benavides, infortunato al naso e alla caviglia, ha perso 1’06 contro il francese. Non tutti hanno ancora terminato lo speciale, ma questa è già una buona notizia per il pilota Husqvarna.
14:13 Le moto sono già arrivate al traguardo!
Le prime moto hanno appena tagliato il traguardo nella speciale del giorno. Per il momento Ross Branch ha segnato il miglior tempo davanti a Matthias Walkner, ma dovremo attendere l’arrivo di Joan Barreda o Daniel Sanders per scoprire l’esito della battaglia di oggi.

Ricky Brabec è andato leggermente fuori strada e ha perso 3’38 “contro l’attuale leader di tappa Joan Barreda dopo 265 km, spingendo il detentore del titolo in settima posizione!

Nessuno dei leader è riuscito a rubare una marcia nella categoria moto. A poco più di 100 km dal traguardo, Joan Barreda è ancora davanti, ma possiede solo un vantaggio di 19 ” sul debuttante Daniel Sanders, 39 ” sulla Yamaha di Ross Branch e 32 ” sul compagno di squadra Ricky Brabec. Il minimo errore potrebbe avere un esito decisivo sul risultato!

Joan Barreda ha ripreso il comando dopo 202 km da Toby Price e ha anche guadagnato un minuto in più sull’australiano. Ricky Brabec, Daniel Sanders e Ross Branch sono anche 1 minuto dietro Barreda. Un ottimo inizio di speciale anche per Adrien van Beveren che fino ad oggi era stato piuttosto discreto dietro al manubrio della sua Yamaha.

Toby Price è passato al comando dopo 158 km. Il pilota KTM è 10 ”davanti a Joan Barreda. Al terzo posto Ricky Brabec ha preso il sopravvento su Ross Branch, che scende al quinto posto a più di due minuti da Barreda. L’esordiente Daniel Sanders si è portato al quarto posto, a 1’48 ’’ dietro lo spagnolo, il che significa che è ancora molto vicino nel gruppo di testa!
12:10 Jugla e Bispo passano alla Dakar Experience
Sara Jugla e Alexandre Bispo non sono riusciti a raggiungere la partenza della speciale in tempo e dovranno perdere la tappa della giornata. Tuttavia, possono ancora giocare il loro jolly e passare alla formula “Dakar Experience”, consentendo loro di riprendere il rally domenica. Verranno inseriti nei risultati di giornata, ma non saranno più presenti in classifica generale.

Sara Jugla sta facendo del suo meglio per rendere la sua prima Dakar un successo! Nonostante le difficoltà del deserto saudita, la francese non si lascia triturare e sarà presente alla sesta speciale. Accompagnato dallo spagnolo Alexandre Bispo in questa sfida, Jugla mostra qualità eroiche!

Con il 28 ° miglior tempo nella quinta speciale, Maurizio Gerini è risalito in cima alla classifica di categoria Original by Motul. Il vincitore della categoria maratona nel 2018 e nel 2019 vanta ora un vantaggio di poco più di sette minuti su Arūnas Gelažninkas e di 16 minuti su Roman Krejčí. Il detentore del titolo Emanuel Gyenes è ancora quarto, ma resta indietro di quasi mezz’ora.

By finishing behind Xavier De Soultrait, Kevin Benavides, with an injured nose and ankle, has lost 1’06 to the Frenchman. Not everybody has finished the special yet, but this is already good news for the Husqvarna rider.

The first bikes have just crossed the finishing line on the day’s special. For the moment, Ross Branch has posted the best time ahead of Matthias Walkner, but we will have to await the arrival of Joan Barreda or Daniel Sanders to discover the outcome of today’s battle.

With the 28th best time on the fifth special, Maurizio Gerini has climbed back to the top of the Original by Motul category standings. The winner of the marathon category in 2018 and 2019 now boasts a lead of a little more than seven minutes over Arūnas Gelažninkas and 16 minutes over Roman Krejčí. The title holder Emanuel Gyenes is still fourth, but lags behind the leader by almost half an hour.

A good number of competitors threw the towel in at the end of stage five yesterday. In the bike race, official Yamaha rider Jamie McCanney exited the race due to a technical problem. Kevin Benavides gave a clear display of his good nose for navigation yesterday by avoiding the stage’s pitfalls. Despite a crash and a broken nose, the HRC rider has climbed to the top of the general standings. However, with six riders less than ten minutes behind him, it is all still to play for before the rest day, something which Ricky Brabec, Joan Barreda, Pablo Quintanilla or also Sam Sunderland will have surely understood!

07:20 Stage 6 shortened with a deferred start
Due to the difficulties encountered in finishing stage 5 by a significant number of competitors, the decision has been taken to delay the departure of the riders and crews from the bivouac in Al Qaisumah by 1 hour 30 minutes. The route of the special on stage 6 has therefore been shortened by one hundred kilometres in order to make the programme less tough. However, the competitors will still have to tackle sand and dunes. Though navigational skills will again play a decisive role in the outcome of this special, the riders’ and drivers’ physical capacities will also be sorely tested, demanding a considerable effort from them. After that, they will fully deserve the rest day that will take place in Ha’il.
