12:56 Brabec guida in modo prudente?

10:47 Sette secondi separano i primi 3

10:19 Rookie Sanders è all’altezza dell’occasione

  1. 13:29 De Soultrait cashes in

Xavier De Soultrait has scooped fifth place in the special and rocketed into the overall lead. The Frenchman has a slender margin of 15 seconds over Joan Barreda, who has been alternating victories with Toby Price since the first stage. The Australian lost almost a quarter of an hour after opening the road today and is now seven minutes behind De Soultrait in the general classification.

  2. 13:22 Barreda scores a brace!

Joan Barreda has taken his second stage win this year. The HRC biker started in 30th place, seized the lead at the first time check and never looked back. Ross Branch came in six minutes down on Barreda and a few seconds ahead of rookie Daniel Sanders and Luciano Benavides’s Husqvarna.

  1. 12:56 Brabec riding conservatively?

218 km into the special, Ricky Brabec is currently in 10th place, just over five minutes behind his teammate. The reigning champion could well have made the strategic choice to save his tyres and avoid having to open the road in tomorrow’s fifth stage, widely touted as the toughest one in the 43rd Dakar.

  2. 12:42 Branch first across the line

Ross Branch was the first biker to wrap up today’s special, but since he trailed Joan Barreda by over two minutes at km 268, victory still seems to have the Honda biker’s name written all over it.

  3. 12:39 Barreda still ahead

Joan Barreda still leads at km 218 with over a minute and a half to spare over Ross Branch. Pablo Quintanilla is still third with just over 100 km to go, but the Husqvarna biker has his work cut out for him to fend off the likes of José Ignacio Cornejo, Daniel Sanders, Joaquim Rodríguez and Štefan Svitko.

  1. 12:05 Barreda still in control

172 km into the special, Joan Barreda is still in the lead by 1’37’ over the new second-placed rider, Ross Branch. Pablo Quintanilla is currently third at almost three minutes back. José Ignacio Cornejo and his Honda are fourth, while rookie Daniel Sanders is fifth about 10 seconds back.

  2. 11:20 Barreda leads at km 125

Joan Barreda has capitalised on Toby Price’s error and leapfrogged him to take the provisional lead. The Spaniard was 36′ faster than Pablo Quintanilla and 49′ quicker than Ross Branch. Rookie Daniel Sanders is sitting in fourth place, 1’43’ behind the HRC biker.

  3. 11:16 Price makes a navigation error!

After leading at km 80, Toby Price is losing over five minutes at the next checkpoint as a result of a navigation mistake. The Australian has fallen into the trap of this stage, which most competitors have described as a fast one.

  4. 10:56 Broken engine knocks Azinhais out

A broken engine spells the end of Alexandre Azinhais’s Dakar adventure. The Portuguese biker, born in Biarritz (France) had decided to tackle this new challenge in March, but a stroke of bad luck put paid to his chances 22 km into the special.

  5. 10:47 Seven seconds separate the top 3

Spaniard Joan Barreda, who won the stage on Monday, went through the first checkpoint of the day with a slim lead of 5′ over Ross Branch (Yamaha) and 7′ over Pablo Quintanilla (Husqvarna). Matthias Walkner and Toby Price remain within striking distance about 20 seconds back.

  6. 10:19 Rookie Sanders rises to the occasion

Daniel Sanders continues to prove the KTM Factory Team made the right choice signing him last September. The man from Down Under built on his podium place in the prologue to finish eighth on Tuesday, 11′22″ behind fellow Australian Toby Price. The rookie, running 16 minutes behind overall leader Skyler Howes, went through the first checkpoint with a 32-second deficit to Ross Branch… definitely worth keeping an eye on!

  7. 09:55 Rossat sets speed record

Rookie Audrey Rossat is one of the female riders in the motorbike category. The Frenchwoman, a household name in the world of enduro, finished the third stage 2 h 13′ behind winner Toby Price, setting a personal speed record (138 km/h) in the process.

  8. 09:44 Walkner already at the first time check

Matthias Walkner has bounced back from his stroke of bad luck on Monday and holds a two-second lead over Toby Price at the first WP. Only 11 bikers have started so far.

  9. 09:40 Sanz easing into her pace

Laia Sanz seems to have finally found the right pace for her during stage 3 after a cautious start to the rally. The Catalan biker’s run-up to the Dakar was marred by an injury last year and another one in the recent Andalucía Rally. The GasGas biker finished in 26th place on Tuesday, just 22′ behind Toby Price, which will no doubt boost her morale ahead of stage 4, described by some as a fast special.

  10. 09:25 Gyenes loses ground

Emanuel Gyenes has slipped to fourth place in the Original by Motul classification. The reigning champion lost over half an hour in the third special and relinquished the lead to Maurizio Gerini, who now has a margin of more than 12 minutes over Arūnas Gelažninkas and 24 over Roman Krejčí.

  11. 09:10 Price is under way!

The fourth special is now on with Toby Price leading the charge again. The Australian will be followed by Kevin Benavides, who led for most of yesterday’s stage before fading within sight of the finish line. Matthias Walkner, who conceded valuable time on Monday due to clutch issues, will be starting in third place, ahead of the new overall leader, American Skyler Howes.

  12. 09:04 Another two competitors out of the race

Angelo Pedemonte is throwing in the towel due to injuries sustained during the motorbike special on Tuesday. Nicolás Robledo Serna is also calling it quits after dislocating his shoulder. A big disappointment for the Colombian, who had got off to a strong start by finishing the prologue just outside the top 10.

  13. 08:50 Pathfinder Price

Toby Price, the winner of stages one and three, will once again open the way for his rivals. The Australian will be hoping to enjoy a less difficult special in navigational terms in order to improve his consistency. He currently occupies third place in the general standings, only 52’’ behind the new leader Skyler Howes. However, a watchful eye will have to be kept on the two HRC riders, Joan Barreda and Ricky Brabec, or also on Husqvarna biker Pablo Quintanilla, who will all have the opportunity of following the tracks of the day’s pathfinder…
