NEWS FLASH: Tim Gajser vince il Campionato del Mondo MXGP 2020
Tim Gajser del team HRC ha vinto il suo quarto campionato mondiale di motocross in soli sei anni, dopo aver vinto il titolo MXGP 2020 di quest’anno. Incoronato sul circuito trentino in Italia, patria di tanti bei ricordi per il pilota sloveno, Gajser ha concluso il titolo con tre manche rimaste in un’altra stagione di guida veloce e controllata. Questo titolo ora lo porta in cima alla lista dei campioni del mondo HRC, uno dei grandi come Dave Thorpe, Eric Geboers, Georges Jobe e Andre Malherbe e conferma il suo posto come uno dei migliori piloti di sempre nella storia del motocross.
In quella che è stata una stagione difficile a causa della pandemia globale, il #243 ha costantemente dimostrato di essere il pilota più veloce in pista, vincendo 13 gare e 4 assolute (prima dell’MXGP di Pietramurata) nel suo cammino verso questo momento storico. Iniziando l’anno a marzo con le vittorie in moto a Matterley Basin, nel Regno Unito e Valkenswaard, nei Paesi Bassi, Gajser ha immediatamente dimostrato di essere una minaccia per le vittorie su qualsiasi superficie su cui hanno corso, e quella forma è continuata quando ha vinto la prima gara dopo la ripresa a Kegums, Lettonia.
Con il nuovo formato di un giorno in atto, la qualificazione era solo una sessione cronometrata di 25 minuti dopo 20 minuti di prove libere e mentre altri piloti hanno faticato ad adattarsi, Gajser ha mostrato ancora una volta la velocità della nuova Honda CRF450RW ottenendo il primo gate pick a sei nei successivi 10 round e tra i primi tre in nove di essi. Buone scelte di gate hanno portato a buone partenze e holeshots e significa anche che il pilota Honda ha guidato più giri e ha condotto più gare di qualsiasi altro pilota in campo.
Sebbene le vittorie in gara arrivassero spesso, una classifica generale è rimasta sfuggente e non è stato fino all’undicesimo round quando Gajser è stato in grado di mettere in piedi due manche forti e salire sul gradino più alto del podio all’MXGP d’Europa a Mantova, in Italia. Non era niente di più di quanto si meritava e gli ha permesso di consolidare la sua posizione al vertice della classe, dopo aver ottenuto la tabella rossa al nono round. Da quel momento, è andato sempre più rafforzandosi, salendo sul podio in 12 gare consecutive ed estendendo il suo vantaggio a oltre 70 punti. Ciò è stato evidenziato nel triplo colpo di testa in Belgio, dove Gajser ha vinto due delle tre gare, raccogliendo un incredibile 142 su 150 punti nella sabbia profonda di Lommel, conosciuta come la gara più dura del calendario del motocross.
Da Lommel, è tornato in Italia per i tre round finali di stagione in Trentino, il luogo in cui Gajser ha vinto il suo primo campionato mondiale assoluto nel 2015 e anche dove la sua campagna 2019 è stata avviata dopo un incontro epico che si è concluso con lui. one-one, scatenando incredibili scene di celebrazione. Sfortunatamente, ai fan non è stato permesso di assistere al successo di quest’anno, ma l’ondata di sostegno da tutto il mondo è stata immensa e mostra proprio quale figura popolare sia “Tiga243” all’interno della comunità del motocross e oltre. Con un round rimasto, c’è ancora la possibilità per lui di aggiungere alle sue incredibili statistiche, ma per ora Gajser sta celebrando il suo straordinario risultato di vincere il suo quarto titolo mondiale. NEWS FLASH: Tim Gajser wins 2020 MXGP World Championship
Team HRC’s Tim Gajser has won his fourth world motocross championship in just six years, after winning this year’s 2020 MXGP title. Crowned at the Trentino circuit in Italy, home to many great memories for the Slovenian rider, Gajser wrapped up the title with three motos left to go in another season of fast, controlled riding. This title now moves him to the top of the list of HRC world champions, one clear of greats like Dave Thorpe, Eric Geboers, Georges Jobe and Andre Malherbe and it confirms his place as one of the best ever riders in motocross history.
In what has been a difficult season due to the global pandemic, the #243 has consistently shown he is the fastest rider on the track, winning 13 races and 4 overalls (before the MXGP of Pietramurata) on his way to this historic moment. Starting off the year back in March with moto wins at Matterley Basin, UK and Valkenswaard, Netherlands, Gajser immediately showed that he was a threat for victories on whatever surface they rode on, and that form continued when he won the first race back after the restart in Kegums, Latvia.
With the new one-day format in place, qualification was just a 25-minute timed session after 20 minutes of free practice and while other riders struggled to adapt, Gajser again showed the speed of the new Honda CRF450RW by getting first gate pick at six out of the next 10 rounds, and inside the top three in nine of them. Good gate picks led to good starts and holeshots and it also meant the Honda rider has led more laps, and has led in more races than any other rider in the field.
While race wins were coming often, an overall remained elusive and it wasn’t until round 11 when Gajser was able to put in two strong motos and get onto the top step of the podium at the MXGP of Europe in Mantova, Italy. It was nothing more than he deserved and it allowed him to cement his position at the top of the class, after first getting the red plate at round nine. Since that moment, he has gone from strength to strength, podiuming in 12 straight races and extending his lead to over 70 points. This was highlighted at the triple-header in Belgium where Gajser won two of the three overalls, picking up an incredible 142 out of 150 points in the deep sand of Lommel, known as the toughest race on the motocross calendar.
From Lommel, it was back to Italy for the season-finale three rounds in Trentino, the venue where Gajser won his first ever world championship overall in 2015 and also where his 2019 campaign was kick-started after an epic encounter that ended with him going one-one, sparking amazing scenes of celebration. Unfortunately, fans weren’t allowed to witness this years’ success but the outpouring of support from the around the world has been immense and shows just what a popular figure ‘Tiga243’ is within the motocross community and beyond. With one round left, there is still chance for him to add to his amazing statistics but for now, Gajser is celebrating his amazing achievement of winning his fourth world championship title. Bravo!
