Dominant Gajser vince l’MXGP delle Fiandre e raddoppia il vantaggio in classifica
Tim Gajser del team HRC ha dato il meglio di sé all’MXGP delle Fiandre, offrendo una prestazione quasi perfetta non solo per conquistare la vittoria assoluta, ma anche per estendere il suo vantaggio nel Campionato del mondo MXGP 2020 a 48 punti.
Un secondo posto in qualifica gli ha dato la seconda scelta e ne ha approfittato per ottenere ottime partenze sulla Honda CRF450RW in entrambe le gare sul circuito di Lommel. Nella prima manche, il # 243 è passato rapidamente al comando al primo giro e sembrava estremamente a suo agio, tirando fuori un piccolo vantaggio dal gruppo di inseguitori. Sfortunatamente, ha commesso un piccolo errore a due terzi della gara ed è sceso al secondo posto, che è dove è finito. È stata una piccola delusione, ma Gajser era determinato a non lasciare che ciò lo influenzasse, poiché ha cercato di sostenere la sua vittoria complessiva qui dal 2019 quando è andato due-due.
L’evento dello scorso anno è stata una vittoria fondamentale per il pilota sloveno poiché Lommel è definita la gara più dura del calendario a causa della sabbia profonda e mutevole che compone l’intera struttura. Conosciuto come pilota hard-pack all’inizio della sua carriera, Gajser ha lavorato instancabilmente per migliorare le sue abilità sulla sabbia e la seconda manche di oggi è stata un esempio dell’alto livello che ha ora raggiunto. Ancora una volta, ha doppiato la prima curva in seconda posizione e dopo aver seguito il leader per un giro ha fatto la sua mossa e non si è più guardato indietro. Ad ogni giro tirava un altro secondo sui piloti dietro, e quando la bandiera a scacchi veniva sventolata ha tagliato il traguardo con oltre 10 secondi di vantaggio. Questo gli ha dato due risultati per la vittoria assoluta e 47 punti cruciali nella battaglia per il campionato.
Entrando in questo triplo colpo di testa belga, Gajser era di 24 punti di vantaggio dal secondo posto, ma ora è raddoppiato a 48, e con altri due eventi qui, cercherà di aumentare ulteriormente il divario la prossima settimana. Ora, però, ha un paio di giorni liberi, prima di correre di nuovo mercoledì 21 ottobre per il 14° round di questo campionato del mondo di 18 eventi.

Dall’inizio della giornata mi sono sentito benissimo in pista e in moto. Nella prima manche sono partito bene, sono arrivato secondo dietro la prima curva e poi sono passato velocemente al comando, tirando fuori un piccolo gap. Purtroppo ho commesso un piccolo errore e sono caduto, il che ha permesso a Gautier di superarmi e sono arrivato secondo. Nella seconda manche ho fatto una buona prima curva e sono uscito di nuovo secondo. Ho superato Jorge nel secondo giro e poi ho recuperato un discreto distacco per controllare la gara e prendere la classifica generale. Sono davvero felice di vincere qui perché abbiamo lavorato così duramente per migliorare sulla sabbia e questa è la gara più dura da vincere. Tutti nel team sono stati fantastici e continuiamo a spingere per migliorare sempre di più e non posso ringraziare tutti abbastanza!

Che bel paio di manche per Tim oggi. È apparso davvero fluido e veloce per tutta la giornata e se non fosse stato per un piccolo errore nella prima gara, avrebbe ottenuto una prestazione uno-uno assolutamente meritata. Tuttavia, fare due a uno e vincere un GP a Lommel è un grande risultato ed è stata un’ulteriore prova di quanto sia migliorata la sua guida sulla sabbia. Ora ha vinto gli ultimi due GP qui ed è stato anche in grado di raddoppiare il suo vantaggio in classifica fino a 48 punti, il che conclude una giornata fantastica.

Dominant Gajser wins MXGP of Flanders and doubles championship points lead
Team HRC’s Tim Gajser was at his dominant best at the MXGP of Flanders, putting in a near-perfect performance to not only take the overall victory, but to also extend his lead in the 2020 MXGP World Championship to 48 points.
A second place in qualification gave him second gate pick and he took full advantage to get excellent starts on the Honda CRF450RW in both races at the Lommel circuit. In moto one, the #243 quickly swept into the lead on the first lap and was looking extremely comfortable, pulling out a small lead from the chasing pack. Unfortunately, he made one small mistake two-thirds of the way through the race and dropped back to second, which is where he ended up finishing. It was a minor disappointment, but Gajser was determined not to let it affect him, as he tried to back up his overall win here from 2019 when he went two-two.
Last year’s event was a milestone victory for the Slovenian rider as Lommel is called the toughest race on the calendar due to the deep, ever-changing sand that makes up this whole facility. Known as a hard-pack rider earlier in his career, Gajser has worked tirelessly to improve his sand abilities and the second moto today was an example of the high level he has now reached. Once again, he rounded the first corner in second place and after a lap of following the leader, he made his move and never looked back. Every lap he would pull out another second on the riders behind, and by the time the chequered flag was waved he crossed the line over 10 seconds ahead. This gave him two-one results for the overall victory and 47 crucial points in the championship battle.
Coming into this Belgian triple-header Gajser was 24 points clear of second place, but that has now doubled to 48, and with two more events here, he will be looking to increase that gap even more this coming week. Now though, he has a couple of days off, before racing again on Wednesday 21st October for round 14 of this 18-event world championship.

From the beginning of the day, I felt great on the track and on the bike. In the first moto, I got a good start, in second place around the first corner and then I moved quickly into the lead, pulling out a little gap. Unfortunately, I made a small mistake and fell, which allowed Gautier to pass me and I finished second. In the second moto, I had a good first corner and came out second again. I passed Jorge in the second lap and then pulled out a decent gap to control the race and take the overall. I’m really happy to take the victory here because we have worked so hard to get better in the sand and this is toughest race to win. Everyone in the team has been great and we just keep on pushing to get better and better and I can’t thank everyone enough!

What a great couple of motos for Tim today. He really looked smooth and fast throughout the entire day and if it wasn’t for one small mistake in the first race, he would have got a thoroughly deserved one-one performance. However, to go two-one and win a GP at Lommel is a great achievement and it was further proof of just how much his sand riding has improved. He has now won the last two GPs here and was also able to double his points lead in the championship to 48 points, which just rounds off an amazing day.
