Vittoria complessiva per Gajser che aumenta la leadership in campionato
Tim Gajser del team HRC ha ottenuto il suo miglior risultato in quella che è già una stagione da leader del campionato mentre è passato a risultati di 1-2 per conquistare l’assoluta all’MXGP d’Europa.
Terzo appuntamento consecutivo sulla pista di sabbia di Mantova, il corridore sloveno è uscito bene dal cancello in entrambe le gare e ha effettuato sorpassi quando necessario, per non solo vincere, ma anche allungare il vantaggio per la sua tabella rossa a oltre 10 punti. Il compagno di squadra Mitch Evans ha anche ottenuto i suoi migliori risultati congiunti dell’anno per andare quattro-otto per il quinto posto assoluto e spostarsi a breve distanza dalla top 10 in questa competitiva classe MXGP.
Per Gajser, è stato il culmine di molto duro lavoro per salire sul gradino più alto del podio e non era altro che il pilota Honda CRF450RW ha meritato dopo le sue sette vittorie nei dieci round precedenti. Ha poi aggiunto a quel totale un’altra dimostrazione di velocità e controllo sul frenetico circuito di Mantova. Il pilota della Honda è poi andato molto vicino a fare una prestazione convincente uno-uno, finendo solo un paio di secondi dietro al leader dopo che un piccolo errore a metà gara gli ha fatto perdere una posizione. Ora, con sette round ancora da correre, Gajser è in vantaggio di 11 punti nel campionato del mondo MXGP 2020 e pieno di fiducia dopo essere stato in grado di ottenere questa vittoria assoluta.
Anche Mitch Evans si dirige al prossimo round in Spagna con una rinnovata convinzione di poter lottare in testa al campo, dopo aver lottato duramente per un quarto posto nella prima manche. È la terza volta che finisce quarto quest’anno ed è un’ulteriore conferma che l’australiano nel suo anno da rookie può sfidare per il podio. Un ottavo in gara due non era esattamente quello che cercava, ma significava comunque un quinto posto assoluto, che era quello che aveva ottenuto nel primo round della serie in Gran Bretagna, a marzo.
Ora il Team HRC si dirige nella capitale spagnola di Madrid per quella che è una nuova sede vicino al complesso commerciale intu Xanadú-Arroyomolinos. Anche se nessun pilota ha ancora guidato lì, si ritiene che sia un terreno duro che dovrebbe adattarsi al duo Honda, che ha solo pochi giorni per prepararsi per la gara di domenica 11 ottobre.
Tim Gajser 243: È una sensazione incredibile essere di nuovo sul gradino più alto del podio. Ho vinto molte manche quest’anno ma mai una assoluta, quindi sono felicissimo di aver potuto farlo in questo round di Mantova. Le gare sono state belle, anche se verso la fine della prima gara ho avuto un po ‘di braccia dure che mi ha reso difficile tutto e di quanto avrei voluto, ma ho comunque vinto, quindi è stato un bene. Poi nella seconda gara ho fatto un’altra buona partenza e sono passato quasi subito al comando. Sfortunatamente, sono caduto a metà gara e sono tornato secondo. Ho spinto molto per recuperare il comando ma sono finito secondo per il primo assoluto. Un grande grazie a tutti quelli del Team HRC che mi hanno supportato quest’anno e che hanno continuato a spingermi verso questo obiettivo. Il prossimo GP è la Spagna e non vedo l’ora!
Mitch Evans 43: Oggi è stata una buona giornata e anche un po ‘deludente. Nella prima manche sono partito bene, ho fatto alcuni sorpassi e sono rimasto terzo per gran parte della gara. Sono arrivato quarto ma è stata comunque una buona moto e mi sono divertito a correre con i migliori. Nella seconda manche non ho fatto il salto migliore che ha reso le cose difficili perché era ancora difficile passare, ma sono tornato all’ottavo per il quinto posto assoluto. Era lo stesso di Matterley Basin al primo GP dell’anno, quindi sono contento di questo. Oggi volevo davvero quel podio, ma non è successo, ma ci sono ancora altri sette round per farlo ed è quello su cui mi sto concentrando quando andremo in Spagna.
Marcus Pereira de Freitas Direttore generale HRC – MXGP: È stata davvero una buona giornata per il Team HRC, soprattutto nella prima manche quando Tim e Mitch hanno corso primo e terzo per un lungo periodo di tempo. Tim ha aggiunto al suo conteggio delle vittorie in gara, ma sapevamo che la seconda manche era cruciale e per fortuna, Tim ha mostrato ancora una volta la sua velocità per ottenere un secondo posto ed essere primo assoluto. Ora è in vantaggio di oltre 10 punti in campionato ed è un altro stimolo alla fiducia per tutti nella squadra. È stata anche una buona prestazione per Mitch andare per il quinto posto assoluto. Ha dimostrato di avere la velocità per correre davanti e ha eguagliato il suo miglior risultato complessivo della stagione, quindi è un buon segno mentre ci dirigiamo in Spagna.

Overall victory for Gajser as he increases championship lead
Team HRC’s Tim Gajser put in his best result of what is already a championship-leading season as he swept to one-two races results to take the MXGP of Europe overall.
Held for the third event in succession at the Mantova sand-track, the Slovenian rider got out of the gate well in both races and made passes when he needed to, in order to not only get the win, but also extend his red-plate margin to over 10 points. Teammate Mitch Evans also put in his joint-best results of the year to go four-eight for fifth overall and move to within striking distance of the top 10 in this competitive MXGP class.
For Gajser, it was a culmination of a lot of hard work to step onto the top of the podium and it was nothing more than the Honda CRF450RW rider deserved after his seven race wins in the ten rounds before today. He then added to that total in another display of speed and control on the fast-paced Mantova circuit. The Honda rider then came very close to making it a convincing one-one performance, finishing just a couple of seconds behind the leader after a small mistake mid-race caused him to lose a position. Now, with seven rounds still to race, Gajser sits 11 points ahead in the 2020 MXGP world championship and filled with confidence after he was able to get this overall victory.
Mitch Evans also heads to the next round in Spain with renewed belief that he can battle at the front of the field, after battling hard to a fourth place in the first moto. It is the third time that he’s finished fourth this year and it is further confirmation that the Australian in his rookie year can challenge for podium spots. An eighth in race two wasn’t quite what he was after but it still meant an overall finish of fifth, which was what he achieved at the first round of the series in Great Britain, back in March.
Now Team HRC head to the Spanish capital of Madrid for what is a new venue near the intu Xanadú-Arroyomolinos shopping complex. While no riders have ridden there yet, it is believed to be hard-pack terrain which should suit the Honda duo, who have just a few days to get ready for the racing on Sunday 11th October.

It’s an amazing feeling to be back on the top step of the podium. I’ve won many motos this year but never an overall, so I’m super happy to have been able to have done that at this round in Mantova. The races were nice, although I did get a little arm-pump towards the end of the first race which made it a little closer than I’d have liked but I still won, so that was good. Then in the second race I had another good start, and passed for the lead almost immediately. Unfortunately, I fell in the middle of the race and dropped back to second. I pushed hard to get the lead back but ended up second for first overall. A big thanks to everyone at Team HRC who have supported me this year and who have kept pushing me towards this goal. Next up is Spain and I can’t wait!

Today was a good day and a bit of a disappointing day too. In the first moto I got a good start, made a few passes and was in third for most of the race. I ended up fourth but it was still a good moto and I enjoyed running with the top guys. In moto two I didn’t get the best jump which made things difficult because it was still hard to pass, but I got back to eighth for fifth overall. This was the same as in Matterley Basin at the first GP of the year, so I’m pleased with that. I did really want that podium today but it didn’t quite happen but there are still seven more rounds to get it done and that’s what I’m focusing on when we head to Spain.

It was a really good day for Team HRC, especially in the first moto when Tim and Mitch were running in first and third for a long period of time. Tim added to his race win tally but we knew that the second moto was crucial and thankfully, Tim once again showed his speed to get a second place to go one-two for first overall. He is now over 10 points ahead in the championship and it is another confidence booster for everyone in the team. It was also a good performance for Mitch to go four-eight for fifth overall. He showed he had the speed to run up front and he matched his best overall of the season so it is a good sign as we head to Spain.
