Jeffrey Herlings – Il leader del campionato del mondo MXGP ha saltato il Gran Premio. L’olandese è caduto durante le prove libere quando è atterrato goffamente dal secondo salto del percorso, subendo la maggior parte dell’impatto sulla parte superiore del corpo. Herlings è stato portato in un vicino ospedale per una risonanza magnetica alla testa e al collo e per esaminare anche un po ‘di dolore alla spalla. Il venticinquenne (26 la prossima settimana) era cosciente e aveva una sensazione completa in tutto il corpo. Il viaggio in una clinica di Bologna è stato visto come misura precauzionale e il team attende ulteriori aggiornamenti. Herlings detiene ancora la tabella rossa.
Dirk Gruebel, Team Manager e Coordinatore tecnico: “Jeffrey è caduto al quarto giro delle prove libere e ha battuto la testa abbastanza forte. Ha riacquistato sensibilità alle braccia e alle gambe abbastanza rapidamente, ma è comunque andato a Bologna per le scansioni complete. Dobbiamo ancora vedere i risultati, ma è stato dimesso dall’ospedale. Stiamo parlando di una compressione piuttosto grande del collo, delle vertebre e di un ematoma della spalla. Domani tornerà in Belgio per altri esami e si spera che non sia così drammatico. Ci vorranno un paio di settimane per riprendersi, ma al momento non possiamo fornire una data precisa. Jorge è andato alla grande ma Tom ha fatto un lavoro fantastico su una pista tutt’altro che facile. Ha giocato in modo intelligente, è rimasto pulito e ha portato a casa 50 punti, il che è stato fantastico per il campionato e per la sua fiducia “.
Pit Beirer, Direttore KTM Motorsports: “Un altro grande giorno per il nostro team di motocross ed è emozionante vedere i nostri giovani che progrediscono in questo modo. Jorge è stato con noi per tutto il percorso e nel team ufficiale da quando aveva sedici anni, quindi è stato speciale vederlo vincere il suo primo GP MXGP. Nello stesso momento ha vinto anche Tom, quindi è stata una buona giornata anche se è iniziata in modo triste con Jeffrey che ha lasciato la pista in ambulanza. Tuttavia, con risultati come questi è stato un grande GP per il gruppo e la famiglia. La squadra sta facendo un grande sforzo, quindi devo ringraziare loro e i piloti per queste vittorie “.
“È stata osservata una frattura al collo, ma non abbiamo ancora compreso appieno quanto sia grave. È chiaro che domenica non ci sarà. Lo vedrò presto in hotel e vedremo se riusciamo a prenotare rapidamente un volo per i Paesi Bassi o il Belgio. Quindi prima vogliamo avere una seconda opinione e poi guardare come e cosa si potrà fare per il futuro. Ne è particolarmente scioccato e devi anche recuperare mentalmente. Jeffrey Herlings – The MXGP world championship leader sat out the Grand Prix. The Dutchman crashed during Free Practice when he landed awkwardly from the second jump of the course, taking most of the impact on his upper body. Herlings was taken to a nearby hospital for an MRI on his head and neck and to also examine some pain to his shoulder. The 25-year old (26 next week) was conscious and had full feeling across his body. The trip to a clinic in Bologna was seen as precautionary measure and the team are waiting more updates. Herlings still holds the red plate.
Dirk Gruebel, Team Manager and Technical Co-Ordinator: “Jeffrey went down on the fourth lap of Free Practice and hit his head quite hard. He regained feeling in his arms and legs pretty quickly but still went to Bologna for full body scans. We have yet to see the results, but he has been released from hospital. We’re talking about a pretty big compression of the neck, vertebrae and a hematoma of the shoulder. He’ll get back to Belgium tomorrow for some more examinations and hopefully it is not that dramatic. It will take a couple of weeks to recover but we cannot give an exact date right now. Jorge did great but Tom made a fantastic job on a track that was far from easy. He played it smart, stayed clean and brought home 50 points, which was great for the championship and his confidence.”
Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsports Director: “Another great day for our motocross team and it is exciting to see our young guys progressing like this. Jorge has been with us all the way and in the factory team since he was sixteen, so it was special to see him win his first MXGP GP. In the same moment Tom won as well, so it was a good day even though it started in a sad way with Jeffrey leaving the track in an ambulance. Still, with results like these it was a great GP for the group and the family. The team are putting in a big effort, so I have to thank them and the riders for these victories.”
Joel Smetz: “A fracture has been seen in the neck, but we have not yet fully understood how serious that is. It is clear that he will not be there on Sunday. I’ll see him in the hotel soon and we’ll see if we can quickly book a flight back to the Netherlands or Belgium. Then we first want to have a second opinion and then look at how and what [for the future]. He is especially very shocked by it and you also have to recover mentally. First he takes a rest before we start making decisions”.
