Olsen lamenta la perdita dell’ultima chance per il titolo MX2
Un incidente di allenamento cinque giorni prima del primo dei tre MXGP in Lettonia si è rivelato costoso per il pilota Rockstar Energy Husqvarna MX2 Thomas Kjer Olsen. Il 23enne è stato giustamente salutato come il favorito per il titolo 2020 MX2 dopo i primi tre classificati del campionato in tutte e tre le sue precedenti stagioni di Gran Premio, ma si è recato a Kegums con il suo secondo infortunio dell’anno: una spalla fratturata che ha limitato la sua velocità e possibilità. Una caduta nel secondo evento in Lettonia ha costretto un DNF e il ritiro dall’ultimo Gran Premio, quasi cancellando i suoi sogni di lasciare la divisione MX2 con il piatto d’oro.
“Al momento è un po ‘difficile”, ha ammesso. “Stavo cercando di fare del mio meglio con questo infortunio alla spalla e la prima manche di mercoledì è stata davvero positiva, dove ho concluso al 5 ° posto con un sacco di dolore. Non voglio piangere troppo per questo, ma è difficile quando ho fatto tutto il lavoro e sono anche in ottima forma: so quello che devo fare ma non ci riesco “.
Dopo cinque round Olsen è 11° nella classifica MX2 e quasi 130 punti dietro il leader Tom Vialle. Il danese ha dovuto affrontare un problema al polso pre-stagionale e poi la battuta d’arresto alla spalla, il che significa che il pilota coerente e performante non ha ancora ottenuto un risultato tra i primi tre nel 2020. È il termine più difficile e impegnativo della carriera di Olsen e soprattutto irritante quando il 2020 ha rappresentato la sua ultima possibilità di conquistare la corona MX2.
“È davvero difficile da accettare, ma è così che va nel motocross e non sono il primo ad affrontarlo”, dice. “Ho passato tre anni senza ferite ed è stata una benedizione. Sta arrivando in un brutto momento … ma devo accettarlo e forse fissare nuovi obiettivi e guardare avanti “.
Parte di quella direzione in avanti sarà presto la conferma pubblica del suo contratto MXGP per il 2021 e oltre. Si dice che Olsen rimarrà in Husqvarna e entrerà nel team Rockstar Energy IceOne insieme al 22enne Arminas Jasikonis.

Olsen laments loss of final MX2 title chance
A training crash five days before the first of three MXGPs in Latvia proved costly for Rockstar Energy Husqvarna MX2 rider Thomas Kjer Olsen. The 23-year old was rightly hailed as the 2020 MX2 title favourite after top-three championship finishes in all three of his previous Grand Prix seasons but he travelled to Kegums with his second injury of the year: a fractured shoulder that limited his speed and possibilities. A fall in the second event in Latvia forced a DNF and withdrawal from the last Grand Prix, all but scrubbing his dreams of departing the MX2 division with the gold plate.
“It is a bit rough at the moment,” he admitted. “I was trying to do my best with this shoulder injury and the first moto on Wednesday was really positive, where I finished 5th riding through a lot of pain. I don’t want to cry too much about it but it’s difficult when I have been doing all the work and I’m in great shape also: I know what I need to do but I’m just not able to do it.”
After five rounds Olsen is 11th in the MX2 standings and almost 130 points behind leader Tom Vialle. The Dane had to cope with a pre-season wrist problem and then the shoulder setback which means the consistent and high-performing rider has yet to notch a top-three result in 2020. It’s the hardest and most challenging term of Olsen’s career and especially galling when 2020 represented his final chance to snare the MX2 crown.
“It is really hard to accept but that’s how it is in motocross and I am not the first to go through it,” he says. “I spent three years with no injuries and that was a blessing. This is coming at a bad time…but I have to accept it and maybe set some new goals and look forward.”
Part of that forward direction will soon be public confirmation of his MXGP contract for 2021 and beyond. Olsen is heavily rumoured to be staying in Husqvarna and will step into the Rockstar Energy IceOne team alongside 22-year old Arminas Jasikonis.
