HOFER TIES-UP RED BULL KTM MX2 CONTRACT UNTIL 2022
La Red Bull KTM Factory Racing è lieta di annunciare una proroga di due anni del contratto con il debuttante Rene Hofer del FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship. Il 18enne austriaco guiderà le factory KTM 250 SX-F per le stagioni del Grand Prix del 2021 e del 2022.
Hofer è stato arruolato nel team Red Bull KTM Factory Racing per il 2020 dopo aver mostrato risultati promettenti nelle classifiche del campionato europeo EMX con la KTM 125 SX e la KTM 250 SX-F nelle divisioni EMX125 e EMX250. Rene ha impressionato per la sua maturità, etica del lavoro e forte mentalità e ha portato queste caratteristiche all’inizio della campagna del Grand Prix del 2020, dove ha conquistato due primi cinque posti in quattro gare prima che la stagione fosse interrotta.
Finora Hofer ha mostrato segni incoraggianti per continuare il potente ingaggio di KTM nella classe MX2. Il produttore ha posseduto la categoria 12 volte negli ultimi 16 anni; comprese tutte le stagioni dal 2008, ad eccezione del 2015. Otto piloti diversi hanno guadagnato la targa n. 1 mentre guidavano la Red Bull KTM Factory Racing KTM 250 SX-F. Il principiante e compagno di squadra 2019 Tom Vialle è l’attuale leader della serie. Hofer è il primo austriaco a rappresentare la Red Bull KTM nelle principali competizioni MX2 / MXGP Grand Prix da Robert Jonas all’inizio del secolo.
Rene Hofer: “Sono stato con KTM per circa un decennio e ogni volta che entro in azienda, mi sento come se fossi nel posto giusto. È solo il mio primo anno con il team Factory, ma mi sento già a casa ed è un piacere lavorare e trascorrere del tempo con i ragazzi e raggiungere i nostri obiettivi insieme. Tutto quello che posso dire è che sono super entusiasta di ciò che porteranno i prossimi due anni e mi godrò ogni minuto. Da parte mia, farò ovviamente il massimo sforzo e so che tutti i membri del team faranno lo stesso. La collaborazione con un marchio austriaco avrà un effetto positivo anche sul motorsport austriaco. Sono estremamente grato per l’opportunità di vivere il mio sogno, ma non posso dimenticare di rinunciare a tutte le persone che mi hanno aiutato ad arrivare qui, in particolare alla mia famiglia “.
Robert Jonas, Vice President KTM Motorsports Offroad: “Rene è entrato nel team factory abbastanza vicino al microscopio, ma siamo rimasti entusiasti di vedere come ha risposto all’allenamento e alla preparazione invernale e poi come si è adattato immediatamente alla velocità della MX2. Ha fatto alcune buone apparizioni con i jolly nel 2019, quindi è stato in grado di vedere un po ‘di ciò che era in serbo per il 2020 e quindi si è adattato bene alle esigenze di essere un pilota di factory. La sua carriera continua a progredire e siamo entusiasti di continuare quel viaggio insieme. Speriamo che il Campionato mondiale FIM possa ricominciare presto e sia Rene che Tom possano continuare a imparare e svilupparsi ”.

Hofer was drafted into the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team for 2020 after showing promise through the EMX European Championship ranks with the KTM 125 SX and the KTM 250 SX-F in the EMX125 and EMX250 divisions. Rene impressed with his maturity, work ethic and strong mentality and brought those characteristics into the beginning of the 2020 Grand Prix campaign where he captured two top five finishes in four motos before the season was halted.
So far Hofer has shown encouraging signs of continuing KTM’s powerful lineage in the MX2 class. The manufacturer has owned the category 12 times in the last 16 years; including every season since 2008, with the exception of 2015. Eight different racers have earned the #1 plate while riding the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing KTM 250 SX-F. 2019 rookie and teammate Tom Vialle is the current series leader. Hofer is the first Austrian to represent Red Bull KTM in the principal MX2/MXGP Grand Prix competitions since Robert Jonas at the turn of the century.
Rene Hofer: “I’ve been with KTM for about a decade now and every time I step into the company, I feel like I’m in the right place. It’s only my first year with the factory team but it already feels like home and it’s a pleasure to work and spend time with the guys and achieve our goals together. All I can say is that I am super-excited about what the next two years will bring and I will enjoy every minute of it. From my side, I will obviously put in maximum effort and I know everybody in the team will do the same. Working together with an Austrian brand will hopefully have a positive effect on Austrian motorsport as well. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to live my dream but I can’t forget to give-it-up to all the people who helped me get here, especially my family.”
Robert Jonas, Vice President KTM Motorsports Offroad: “Rene came into the factory team pretty close under the microscope, but we were thrilled to see how he responded to winter training and preparation and then how he adjusted to the speed of MX2 right away. He made a few good wildcard appearances in 2019 so he was able to see a little bit of what was in store for 2020 and then adapted well to the demands of being a factory rider. His career keeps progressing and we’re excited to continue that journey together. Hopefully the FIM World Championship can begin again soon and both Rene and Tom can continue to learn and develop.”
