La stella britannica MXoN Sterry spera di guidare la MXGP
La serie MXGP 2020 dovrebbe beneficiare dell’afflusso di almeno altri quattro “rookie” della divisione MX2 e il pilota del podio del Motocross delle Nazioni britannico Adam Sterry che spera di dichiarare i suoi piani nei prossimi giorni.
L’ex uomo di F&H Kawasaki dovrebbe unirsi ad artisti del calibro del compagno di squadra Henry Jacobi del 2019, Calvin Vlaanderen, Iker Larranaga e ovviamente il campione del mondo Jorge Prado nella classe regina dopo aver toccato il limite di età di 23 anni. Sorprendentemente il rappresentante della HRC Vlaanderen deve ancora essere saldamente collegato a una squadra del Grand Prix, nonostante il podio l’abbia toccato tre degli ultimi cinque round del campionato. Sterry – che si è avvicinato così tanto alla sua prima apparizione in tre occasioni- nel frattempo ha avuto colloqui con diversi allestimenti e ritiene che sia tra le opzioni KTM e Kawasaki.
“Sono abbastanza positivo”, ha detto. “Sono abbastanza lontano dalla linea con una squadra e significa anche il campionato del mondo intero, non abbiamo ancora deciso riguardo nessuna serie nazionale.”
Sterry ha completato la sua ultima grande gara della 250cc ad Assen, dove il suo dodicesimo posto nella seconda manche ha aiutato il team britannico a percorrere il podio delle Nazioni per la seconda volta in tre anni. Essendo una delle ultime ondate di atleti ad entrare nella MXGP con una finestra ristretta di opportunità, Sterry sa che ci sono molte possibilità di competere e fare la differenza al di fuori della struttura del team ufficiale.
“Ci sono ancora piloti che stanno cercando”, ha detto. “Può essere una preoccupazione, ma sedermi e preoccuparmi non mi aiuterà a concentrarmi sulle gare e sul lavoro che devo fare. Posso solo fare del mio meglio. Se non ottengo qualcosa, allora dovrò affrontare quella situazione. Spero che sarà tutto focalizzato sul 450 del prossimo anno. ”

British MXoN star Sterry hopeful of MXGP ride
The 2020 MXGP series should benefit from the influx of at least four more ‘rookies’ from the MX2 division and British Motocross of Nations podium finisher Adam Sterry is hopeful of declaring his plans in the coming days.
The former F&H Kawasaki man should join the likes of 2019 teammate Henry Jacobi, Calvin Vlaanderen, Iker Larranaga and of course world champion Jorge Prado in the premier class having hit the age ceiling of 23 years. Surprisingly HRC representative Vlaanderen has still to be firmly connected to a Grand Prix team, despite podium results in three of the last five rounds of the championship. Sterry – who came so close to his maiden top three appearance on three occasions – meanwhile has had advanced talks with several set-ups and is believed to be between KTM and Kawasaki options.
“I’m quite positive,” he said. “I’m quite far down the line with a team and it means the full world championship, we’ve not decided on any national series yet.”
Sterry completed his last major 250cc race at Assen where his 12th place finish in the second moto helped the British team to walk the Nations rostrum for the second time in three years. As one of the latest wave of athletes to push into MXGP with a narrow window of opportunity, Sterry knows chances are tight to compete and make a difference outside of the factory team framework.
“There are riders still trying to get sorted,” he said. “It can be a worry but sitting down and worrying about it will not help me focus on the races and the job I need to do. I can only try my best. If I don’t get something, then I’ll have to deal with that situation when it comes. Hopefully it will be all focus on the 450 next year.”
