A seguito di una forte caduta nella gara finale del 16° round del Campionato mondiale FIM Motocross a Uddevalla, in Svezia, Romain Febvre della Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP ha subito una frattura al femore sinistro.
Dopo aver terminato in seconda posizione nella gara di apertura, Febvre stava inseguendo la vittoria del Grand Prix in Gara 2. L’ex campione del mondo ha preso l’Holeshot a bordo della sua YZ450FM e ha guidato i primi 13 giri prima di schierarsi su un salto singolo dopo aver cambiato linea per passare un pilota che era doppiato. Atterrò pesantemente sulla sua coscia sinistra e fu immediatamente portato al centro medico di bordo per l’osservazione.
I medici e il paramedico hanno confermato che il suo femore sinistro era rotto e lo hanno trasferito all’ospedale di Trollhättan, dove è stato sottoposto a un’operazione questo pomeriggio, lunedì 26 agosto, per avere una placca inserita chirurgicamente nell’osso e stabilizzarlo.
Febvre si riprenderà dall’operazione sotto l’occhio vigile del suo chirurgo all’ospedale Trollhättan in Svezia fino a quando non sarà abbastanza in forma per tornare alla sua residenza in Belgio. Purtroppo, l’infortunio escluderà il ‘461’ dagli ultimi due round del MXGP e il Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations dove sperava di portare il Team France alla sesta vittoria consecutiva.

Un impegnativo sedicesimo round del campionato mondiale MXGP a Uddevalla, in Svezia, ha visto Jeremy Seewer della Monster Energy Yamaha Factory sfruttare al meglio una “giornata difficile” per finire al quarto posto nella classifica del Grand Prix, mentre Romain Febvre della Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP è caduto mentre inseguiva la vittoria del Grand Prix ed è stato portato in ospedale per ulteriori esami. Tuttavia, la sua prestazione in medaglia d’argento in Gara 1 è stata sufficiente per raggiungere la top-ten.
Nella gara di apertura del fine settimana, Febvre ha recuperato la top-quattro all’uscita del turno uno quando il suo compagno di squadra, Seewer, è caduto dal quinto al secondo turno. Sfruttando la sventura di Seewer, Paulin e Tonus sono riusciti a salire rispettivamente in sesta e settima posizione, dato che Febvre ha approfittato di un errore del nuovo campione del mondo, Gajser, per passare alla terza.
Con la pista complicata e difficile da trasmettere, un holeshot in Gara 2 non sarebbe potuto arrivare in un momento migliore. Febvre è partito in sella a bordo della sua YZ450FM ed è riuscito a guidare la carica fin dal primo turno. Come un pilota che non ha paura di abbassare la potenza e lasciare scivolare la ruota posteriore, l’asso francese sembrava comodo davanti mentre guidava i primi 13 giri.
Dopo una partenza decente, Seewer ha fatto del suo meglio per tenere a bada il vincitore della Gara 1 in una battaglia per il quinto posto, ma ha optato per giocare sul sicuro in pista che ha catturato molti buoni piloti tra cui il suo compagno di squadra, Febvre, che è caduto pesantemente con 3 giri a finire.
Dopo una drammatica durata di 30 minuti più 2 giri, Seewer ha tagliato il traguardo quinto davanti a Tonus al sesto posto e Paulin all’ottavo. Febvre è stato portato in ospedale con un sospetto femore sinistro fratturato. Un aggiornamento sulle sue condizioni verrà condiviso quando disponibile.
Questo se confermato significa che per il secondo anno consecutivo di fine stagione esclude il pilota francese dall’ MXoN.

Febvre Sustains Broken Femur at Swedish Grand Prix
Following a heavy fall in the final race at the 16th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Uddevalla, Sweden, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Romain Febvre has suffered a broken left femur.
After finishing second position in the opening race, Febvre was chasing the Grand Prix victory in Race 2. The former World Champion took the holeshot onboard his YZ450FM and led the first 13-laps before high-siding over a single-jump after changing his line to pass a rider that was one lap down. He landed heavily on his left thigh and was immediately taken to the trackside Medical Centre for observation.
The doctors and paramedic’s onsite confirmed that his left Femur was broken and transferred him to Trollhättan hospital where he underwent an operation this afternoon, Monday 26th August, to have a rod surgically inserted into the bone for stability.
Febvre will recover from the operation under the watchful eye of his surgeon at the Trollhättan hospital in Sweden until he is fit enough to travel back to his residence in Belgium. Sadly, the injury will rule the ‘461’ out of the final two MXGP rounds as well as the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations where he was hoping to take Team France to a sixth consecutive victory.

A challenging 16th round of the MXGP World Championship in Uddevalla, Sweden, saw Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Jeremy Seewer make the most of a ‘tough day’ to finish fourth in the Grand Prix classification, while Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha MXGP’s duo of Gautier Paulin and Arnaud Tonus made up the top-seven. Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Romain Febvre fell while chasing the Grand Prix win and has been taken to hospital for further examination. Nevertheless, his silver medal performance in Race 1 was enough to make up the top-ten.
In the opening race of the weekend, Febvre made up the top-four on the exit of turn-one as his teammate, Seewer, fell from fifth at turn-two. Capitalizing on Seewer’s misfortune, Paulin and Tonus were able to move up into sixth and seventh respectively, as Febvre took advantage of an error by the new World Champion, Gajser, to move into third.
Built in a rock quarry, the circuit of Uddevalla presented a different challenge for the best in the world with the terrain being incredibly hard to read. The dirt was loose and stoney on the surface with a hard packed, rough and edgy clay base. Pushing the limit often ended in error, which made passing risky and hard. Tonus sat behind his teammate for 13-laps, while Febvre forced a pass on last years’ champion Jeffrey Herlings for second position by powering his YZ450FM around the outside of the Dutchman on lap-12.
On lap-14, Paulin made a mistake and stalled his engine at the end of pit-lane which allowed Tonus and Jeremy Van Horebeek to pass before Herlings made a mistake and took an unfortunate Tonus down too.
As a rider that is known to excel on super slick and rocky circuits, Febvre upped the ante on the final lap of the race and put the challenge to the race leader Glenn Coldenhoff but came up short by a fraction of a second. Seewer put in a thrilling charge through the field to finish seventh behind Paulin in sixth as Tonus untangled his damaged bike from Herlings’ and nursed it home for 12th.
With the track being tricky and hard to pass on, a holeshot in Race 2 could not have come at a better time. Febvre got off to a flying start onboard his YZ450FM and managed to lead the charge right from the first turn. As a rider that is not afraid to lay the power down and let the rear wheel slide, the French ace looked comfortable up front as he led the first 13-laps.
Like Febvre, Tonus relishes hard and slick surfaces. A top-three start in the final race of the weekend allowed the ‘4’ to prove his speed, at least until he lost traction on a sweeping turn with 2-minutes left on the clock.
Following a decent start, Seewer did his best to keep the Race 1 winner at bay in a battle for fifth but opted to play it safe on the track that caught many good riders out including his teammate, Febvre, who fell heavily with 3-laps to go.
After a dramatic 30 minute plus 2-lap race duration, Seewer crossed the line fifth ahead of Tonus in sixth and Paulin in eighth. Febvre was taken to the hospital with a suspected broken left femur. An update on his condition will be shared when available.
The next round will be the 17th and penultimate round of the series. It will take place in Afyon, Turkey on the weekend of September 8th.
