Standing Construct KTM per confermare la squadra di due uomini questa settimana
Il team satellite KTM MXGP Standing Construct ha già stabilito che passeranno da tre a due piloti per il campionato del mondo FIM 2020 con la notizia che il contratto di Max Anstie non verrà rinnovato la prossima stagione. L’equipaggio belga dovrebbe annunciare il secondo atleta insieme a Glenn Coldenhoff nei giorni successivi al Gran Premio d’Italia a Imola, ma Ivo Monticelli dovrebbe mantenere la sua posizione.

“Ho sempre detto che volevo un team a due piloti perché quando faccio qualcosa, come i miei affari, lo faccio al 100% e il massimo possibile”, ha dichiarato il Team Principal Tim Mathys delle sue intenzioni originali per il 2019. “Ma alla fine dell’anno scorso ho imparato che Max non aveva ancora un passaggio e ho pensato ‘come è possibile? Ha vinto il Motocross delle Nazioni meno di un anno fa … ‘Ho contattato KTM ed erano entusiasti ed è così che siamo diventati una squadra di tre piloti. Ho fatto alcuni grandi investimenti perché un pilota in più significa risorse extra, furgoni, banchi da lavoro, personale. La Red Bull KTM avrà tre piloti in MXGP il prossimo anno e poiché abbiamo anche del materiale factory penso che sarà difficile per loro portarne sei. ”
Mathys è stato recentemente in trattative con KTM per gestire nuovamente Anstie, ma alla fine ha comunicato che l’inglese, che ha vinto la seconda manche al Grand Prix del Belgio a Lommel e rappresenterà il Team GBR alle Nazioni ad Assen, non rimarrebbe in arancione con il suo equipaggio .
“Ora molte cose sono importanti nel motocross e una grande è il budget per andare a correre”, afferma Mathys. “La mia azienda è uno sponsor molto grande della squadra, ma i soldi che investiamo nel motocross devono pagare. Sarebbe facile dire “aggiungiamo 2-300.000 euro al budget” ma non è così semplice. Ciò influisce anche su che piloti prenderemo. “
Coldenhoff sembra molto stabile nell’ambiente in cui ha celebrato la sua prima vittoria nel Grand Prix (nella classe MX2 al Matterley Basin nel 2013) e entrerà nel secondo anno di un contratto a due termini con KTM. L’olandese, che non ha avuto un inverno di preparazione dopo aver fratturato due vertebre, ha conquistato il primo podio della squadra a Lommel ed è fiducioso di ricoprire nuovamente il Nazioni sul terreno di casa durante l’ultimo fine settimana di settembre.
“Un vantaggio di avere Glenn come pilota è che lavora giorno e notte e non si ferma”, afferma Mathys “quindi ero fiducioso di vederlo tornare al suo livello precedente, aveva solo bisogno di un po ‘di tempo e ha dimostrato che avevamo ragione a Lommel. Ha perso tutto l’inverno fisicamente e i test e aveva davvero bisogno della fiducia della squadra. “
Nel frattempo Monticelli deve essere considerato uno degli atleti più migliorati della classe. L’italiano sta contendendo la sua seconda stagione in MXGP ed è un rispettabile 12° in classifica con nove primi dieci risultati in moto.
“Mi piace molto quello che Ivo ha fatto”, valuta Mathys. “Abbiamo preso un ragazzo in cui nessuno credeva e lo abbiamo sottoposto a un rigido regime di allenamento e gli abbiamo dato tutto ciò che egli chiedeva. Nessuno avrebbe pensato che Ivo avrebbe fatto quelle velocità e quei risultati simili e l’ottavo posto nella seconda manche nella sabbia di Lommel. ”

Standing Construct KTM to confirm two-man team this week
KTM MXGP satellite team Standing Construct KTM have already established that they will drop from three to two riders for the 2020 FIM World Championship with news that Max Anstie’s contract will not be renewed next season. The Belgian crew are expected to announce the second athlete alongside Glenn Coldenhoff in the days after the Grand Prix of Italy at Imola but Ivo Monticelli should keep his slot.
“I always said I wanted a two-rider team because when I do something, like my business, I do it at 100% and the maximum possible,” said Team Principal Tim Mathys of his original intentions for 2019. “But late last year I learned Max still didn’t have a ride and I thought ‘how is that possible? He won the Motocross of Nations less than a year ago…’ I contacted KTM and they were enthusiastic and that’s how we became a three-rider team. I made some big investments because an extra rider means extra resources, vans, workbenches, staff. Red Bull KTM will have three riders in MXGP next year and because we also have some factory material I think it will be difficult for them to carry six.”
Mathys was recently in negotiations with KTM to again run Anstie but finally communicated that the Englishman, who won the second moto at the Grand Prix of Belgium at Lommel and will represent Team GBR at the Nations at Assen, would not remain in orange with his crew.
“So many things are important in motocross now and one big one is the budget to go racing,” Mathys says. “My company is a very big sponsor of the team but the money we invest in motocross has to pay off. It would be easy to say ‘let’s add 2-300,000 euros to the budget’ but it’s not that simple. That also has a bearing on what riders we will take.”
Coldenhoff seems very settled in the environment where he celebrated his first Grand Prix win (in the MX2 class at Matterley Basin in 2013) and will enter the second year of a two-term contract with KTM. The Dutchman, who lacked a winter of preparation after fracturing two vertebra, grabbed the team’s first podium finish at Lommel and is hopeful to star again at the Nations on home soil during the final weekend of September. “One advantage of having Glenn as a rider is that he works day and night and doesn’t stop,” Mathys claims “so I was confident he could come back to his former level, he just needed some time and he proved we were right at Lommel. He missed the whole winter physically and testing and really needed the confidence of the team.”
Monticelli meanwhile must rank as one of the most improved athletes in the class. The Italian is contesting his second season in MXGP and is a respectable 12th in the standings with nine top ten moto results. “I really like what Ivo has done,” Mathys assesses. “We took a guy in whom nobody believed and put him on a strict training regime and gave him everything he asked. Nobody would have thought Ivo would have made those speeds and results like and 8th place in the second moto in the Lommel sand.”
