The King Jeremy McGrath prova la Kawasaki di Jonathan Rea!

Dopo il Round a Laguna Seca, l’ex stella del Motocross e del Supercross ha provato il brivido dei piloti del WorldSBK!

Ci sono state un sacco di stelle al Geico US Round ma il divertimento non si è concluso domenica pomeriggio. Uno dei piloti americani di maggior successo nel motocross e nel supercross, Jeremy McGrath, è infatti sceso in pista a Laguna Seca lunedì con la moto del Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK.
 
 
Dopo aver conquistato il titolo di “Re del Supercorss” con i suoi successi negli anni ‘90, il pilota californiano ha avuto l’onore di diventare il primo rookie a vincere il titolo del 250cc AMA Supercross nel 1993, quello che fu solo il primo di sette, ha vinto ogni anno da quel momento in poi, fatta eccezione per il 1997, fino al 2000. McGrath si è aggiudicato due Campionati del mondo FIM SX ma questa volta ha pensato bene di cambiare i tracciati con l’asfalto.
 
Sceso in pista con la moto che sta dominando la classifica generale, la Kawasaki ZX-10RR, McGrath ha vissuto una nuova esperienza motociclistica negli Stati Uniti.
Parlando di questa nuova avventura, il 47enne ha dichiarato: “Guidare questa moto è stato come realizzare un sogno. Sono un grandissimo appassionato e un fan di questi ragazzi, io e Jonathan siamo amici da diverso tempo. È da circa un paio d’anni che pensavamo di fare uno scambio di moto da quando lui guidò una moto da cross con me. Ho provato ad imparare la pista e la moto ma non è stato facile imparare tutto in così poco tempo, avrei voluto passare tutto il giorno in pista!”
 
Non è stato tutto facilissimo visto che McGrath è scivolato in pitlane ma per fortuna senza nessuna conseguenza. Insieme a lui in pista c’era anche Ben Spies, campione del mondo del Mondiale FIM Superbike nel 2009.
 
“Ho guidato insieme a Ben Spies e mi ha aiutato molto per avere dei riferimenti. Adesso posso spuntare dalla mia liste delle cose da fare questa pista. Dopo aver percorso il Cavatappi ho avuto la sensazione di fare motocross, è stato davvero divertente! Sarei stato fuori ancora più tempo e avrei voluto provare ad andare ancora più veloce, in ogni caso ho amato questa giornata!”

Motocross legend Jeremy McGrath tests Jonathan Rea’s Kawasaki!

After the Round at Laguna Seca, the former Motocross and Supercross star experienced the thrill of WorldSBK riders!

There were a lot of stars at the Geico US Round but the fun didn’t end on Sunday afternoon. One of the most successful American riders in motocross and supercross, Jeremy McGrath, was on track at Laguna Seca on Monday with the Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK bike.

After winning the title of “King of Supercorss” with his successes in the 90s, the Californian driver had the honor of becoming the first rookie to win the 250cc AMA Supercross title in 1993, the one that was only the first of seven, he won every year from that moment on, except for 1997, until 2000. McGrath won two FIM SX World Championships but this time he decided to change the tracks with asphalt.

Taking to the track with the bike that is dominating the general classification, the Kawasaki ZX-10RR, McGrath has experienced a new motorcycle experience in the United States.
Speaking of this new adventure, the 47-year-old declared: “Driving this bike was like making a dream come true. I’m a huge fan and a fan of these guys, Jonathan and I have been friends for some time. We’ve been thinking about doing a bike swap since he drove a motocross bike with me for about a couple of years. I tried to learn the track and the bike but it wasn’t easy to learn everything in such a short time, I wanted to spend all day on the track! ”

It was not all that easy given that McGrath slipped into pitlane but fortunately without any consequences. Along with him on the track there was also Ben Spies, world champion of the FIM World Superbike Championship in 2009.

“I drove with Ben Spies and helped me a lot to get references. Now I can check this track off my to-do list. After traveling the Corkscrew I had the feeling of doing motocross, it was really fun! I would have been out even more time and I wanted to try to go even faster, in any case I loved this day! ”
