Gajser extends MXGP championship lead with fourth overall victory in a row
Tim Gajser del team HRC ha vinto il MXGP della Lettonia in modo drammatico per assicurarsi la sua quarta vittoria generale consecutiva, portando il suo vantaggio in testa alla classifica a 33 punti. Tenuto sulla pista sabbiosa di Kegums, un’ora a sud di Riga, Gajser non ha avuto un fine settimana facile dopo che un incidente in qualifica lo ha lasciato con una cattiva scelta al cancello. Tuttavia, dopo due ottime partenze, ha guidato in modo solido nella prima manche per un sesto posto prima di saltare in testa a gara 2 per sigillare un’altra prestazione al vertice. Il compagno di squadra Brian Bogers ha anche piazzato una buona seconda manche appena fuori dalla top 10, qualcosa su cui può costruire mentre ci dirigiamo verso la seconda metà della serie.
Per Gajser, però, non poteva aspettarsi un risultato del genere dopo l’inizio di ogni manche con il 18° cancelletto sulla pista di Kegums che ha decisamente favorito le posizioni interne. Tuttavia, ancora una volta in questa stagione ha dimostrato che, quando è davvero importante, un buon tempo di reazione, oltre alla potenza della Honda CRF450RW, può portarlo vicino al fronte di questo campo MXGP altamente competitivo. Nella prima manche non è stato in grado di trovare il suo ritmo su questa superficie sabbiosa e, nonostante una partenza nella top five, ha lasciato cadere la posizione per conquistare la bandiera a scacchi al sesto posto. Ciò significava che aveva davvero bisogno di un buon piazzamento intorno alla prima curva di gara due, che è esattamente quello che è stato in grado di consegnare mentre il #243 è passato al secondo posto all’inizio. Sempre con il lavoro da fare, Gajser ha trovato un flusso molto migliore intorno alla pista e dopo essere caduto in terza posizione per alcuni giri, ha messo giù la testa e ha caricato per prendere il comando con 10 minuti rimanenti. Con il passare del tempo, i risultati raggiunti altrove hanno significato che tre piloti hanno finito per legarsi con 40 punti, ma con la seconda vittoria della manche, Gajser ha preso il totale nel tie-break. Il suo punteggio ha anche significato che è stato in grado di aumentare il gap dei punti da 13 all’inizio del weekend a 33 con nove round del campionato del mondo di motocross 2019 ancora da correre.
Il pilota olandese Brian Bogers non è stato altrettanto fortunato all’inizio della gara, poiché è stato coinvolto durante la prima curva nella prima manche che lo ha lasciato alle spalle del campo. Nella prima metà della gara ha fatto una grande carica per rientrare nei primi 20, ma non è stato in grado di mantenere lo slancio e ha concluso al diciottesimo. La seconda gara è iniziata meglio perché è stato in grado di passare al 12° dalla fine del primo giro. Con un tempo costante e mostrando una buona selezione di linee, Bogers è stato in grado di rimanere lì per il resto della moto e tagliare il traguardo per il suo terzo miglior risultato stagionale.
Il prossimo fine settimana vedrà la testa del campionato a Teutschenthal, in Germania, il 22-23 giugno per il terzo evento consecutivo e il 10° round della stagione. Questa pista è un’altra che si adatta allo stile morbido di Gajser e ci sono ottime possibilità che sarà in grado di aggiungere alle sue 10 vittorie di manche e cinque assoluti di quella che è stata una campagna di campionato MXGP estremamente riuscita finora.

Sono davvero contento perché non mi aspettavo questo dopo la prestazione di ieri(Sabato in qualifica). Ho avuto il 18° tempo dopo un orribile incidente e non mi sentivo bene in quella prima manche. Non sono riuscito a trovare linee buone o un buon ritmo, quindi sono riuscito a finire sesto. Nella seconda gara ho avuto una partenza ancora migliore e, anche se ci sono voluti alcuni giri, sono passato in vantaggio con circa 10 minuti rimanenti. Sono davvero felice di aver vinto un altro overall e un grande ringraziamento a tutto il team che lavora così duramente, perché questo duro lavoro sta davvero dando i suoi frutti, quindi un grande grazie a tutti. Ci sono ancora molte gare da disputare, quindi continuerò ad andare in ogni GP cercando di divertirmi, dando il massimo e sperando di emergere e continuare a guidare questo campionato MXGP.

Oggi non è stato male perché sono riuscito a girarlo dopo essere caduto all’inizio della prima gara. Questo sicuramente non è il modo in cui vuoi iniziare le manches. Quel crash mi ha lasciato in fondo al campo, ma questo mi ha fatto desiderare di provare e nonostante abbia passato molti ragazzi all’inizio, sono rimasto bloccato dietro a un pilota e questo ha davvero fermato tutto il mio slancio. Sono passato dall’ultimo al 18° che è un paio di punti ma non proprio quello che volevo. Questo mi ha reso più concentrato per la seconda manche, dove ho avuto una partenza migliore ed ero intorno al 20°. Poi in quel primo giro sono riuscito ad arrivare fino al 12° ed è lì che sono rimasto per tutta la gara. Sono stato davvero contento della mia guida in quella manche perché ho mostrato una buona velocità nei primi 20 minuti. Ho spinto il più possibile e sono felice di ottenere un risultato solido e spero che questo possa continuare la prossima settimana a Teutschenthal.

Dopo ieri, sarebbe stato difficile prevedere che Tim sarebbe stato in grado di vincere la classifica generale, ma ancora una volta ha dimostrato di poter operare sotto pressione e ottenere risultati al momento giusto. Certamente non sembrava aver corso come in gara uno, ma quando aveva bisogno di una buona prestazione ha alzato il suo gioco e ha preso un altra manche vincente per un altro GP generale.
Tutto il Team HRC, sia le persone in pista che tutti quelli che lavorano in Giappone dietro le quinte meritano molto credito, perché questo è davvero un grande sforzo di squadra da parte di tutti. Tim è la persona che i fan vedono in pista, ma molte persone in tutto il mondo si impegnano molto per aiutarlo a raggiungere queste prestazioni e voglio solo assicurarmi che ottengano qualche riconoscimento per i loro sforzi.
E ‘stato anche bello vedere Brian riprendersi da una prima gara difficile per ottenere un 12° in gara due. È sempre bello vedere i piloti mettere delusione dietro di loro e questo è esattamente ciò che Brian è stato in grado di fare dopo il primo turno in gara uno.
Ora ci dirigiamo in Germania ed è un’altra buona pista per Tim e un’altra gara in cui correrà con la tabella rossa, che è qualcosa che speriamo di mantenere fino in fondo la stagione.

Team HRC’s Tim Gajser won the MXGP of Latvia in dramatic fashion to secure his fourth overall win in a row, extending his lead at the top of the championship to 33 points. Held at the sandy Kegums track, an hour south of Riga, Gajser didn’t have an easy weekend after a qualification crash left him with a bad gate pick. However, after two good starts, he rode solidly in the first moto for a sixth place before storming to the front in race two to seal another top step performance. Team mate Brian Bogers also put in a good second moto to place just outside the top 10, something he can build upon as we now head into the second half of the series.
For Gajser though, he couldn’t have expected such an outcome after starting each moto with 18th gate pick on a Kegums track that definitely favoured the inside positions. However once again this season he proved that when it really matters, a good reaction time, plus the power of the Honda CRF450RW can get him right near the front of this highly competitive MXGP field. In the first moto he wasn’t able to really find his rhythm on this sandy surface and despite a top five start, he dropped a position to take the chequered flag in sixth place. This meant he really needed a good placing around the first bend of race two, which is exactly what he was able to deliver as the #243 swept through into second place early on. Still with work to do, Gajser found a much better flow around the track and after dropping into third for a few laps, he put his head down and charged through to take the lead with 10 minutes remaining. As time expired, results elsewhere meant that three riders ended up tying on 40 points, but with the second moto victory, Gajser took the overall on the tie-breaker. His points tally also meant that he was able to increase his point’s gaps from 13 points at the beginning of the weekend to 33 with nine rounds of the 2019 motocross world championships still to race.
Dutch rider Brian Bogers wasn’t quite as fortunate at the beginning of the races as he was involved in a first turn pile-up in the first moto that left him right at the back of the field. In the first half of the race he put on a great charge to get himself back into the top 20, but he wasn’t quite able to maintain that momentum and ended up 18th. Race two started off better as he was able to move into 12th by the end of the first lap. With consistent laptimes and showing good line selection, Bogers was able to remain there for the rest of the moto and cross the line for his joint-third best result of the season.
Next weekend sees the championship head to Teutschenthal, Germany on 22-23 June for the third event in a row and the 10th round of the season. This track is another one that suits Gajser’s smooth style and there is strong possibility he’ll be able to add to his 10 moto wins and five overalls of what has been an extremely successful MXGP championship campaign so far.

I’m really happy because I really didn’t expect this after yesterday’s performance. I had 18th gate pick after a horrible crash and I wasn’t feeling great in that first moto today either. I couldn’t find good lines or a good rhythm so I was only able to finish sixth. In the second race I had an even better start and although it took a few laps, I passed my way into the lead with about 10 minutes remaining. I’m really happy to win another overall and a big thanks to all of the team who work so hard, because that hard work is really paying off so a big thanks to everyone. Still there are a lot of races to go so I will continue to go into each GP trying to have fun, giving my best and hoping to come out on top and remain leading this MXGP championship.

It wasn’t too bad today as I was able to turn it around after I crashed in the start of the first race. That definitely isn’t how you want to begin the motos. That crash left me at the back of the field, but that made me want to try too hard and although I passed a lot of guys to begin with, I got held up behind one rider and that really halted all my momentum. I went from completely last to 18th which is a couple of points but not really what I wanted. This made me extra focused for the second heat where I had a better start and was around 20th. Then in that first lap I was able to get up into 12th and that’s where I stayed for the whole race. I was really happy with my riding in that moto because I showed some good speed in the first 20 minutes. I pushed as much as I could and I’m happy to get one solid result and I hope this can continue next week in Teutschenthal.

After yesterday, it would have been hard to predict that Tim would be able to win the overall but once again he proved that he can perform under pressure and deliver results at just the right time. He certainly didn’t seem to be riding like himself in race one, but when he needed a good performance he raised his game and took another moto win for yet another overall.
All of Team HRC, both the people at the track and everyone in Japan working behind the scenes deserve a lot of credit because this really is a massive team effort from everybody involved. Tim is the person the fans see on the track but a lot of people around the world put in a lot of work to help him achieve these performances and I just want to make sure they get some recognition for their efforts.
It was also nice to see Brian bounce back from a tough first moto to get a 12th in race two. It is always good to see riders put disappointment behind them and that’s exactly Brian was able to do after that first turn crash in race one.
Now we head to Germany and it’s another good track for Tim and another race where he’ll be riding with the red plate, which is something we hope to keep all the way through the season now.
