2020 Yamaha YZ250F Release Date
By Yamaha Motor Company
2020 Yamaha YZ250F Release Date – Because it was dramatically overhauled in 2014, the Yamaha YZ250F has become a popular trail bike as a result of its torquey engine and luxurious suspension. Blue bikes have seen several improvements over the years, and for 2020, it featured several new components including engine, frame and bodywork. We drive the 2020 model for the first time at Cahuilla Creek MX in Anza, California, to get some initial impressions of the motorbike and also compare it to the previous generation models that have been highly favored.
Yamaha has released information on the all-new 2020 YZ250F. This motorbike was redesigned from the ground up and is now equipped with an electric start and the first smartphone-engine tuning application comes as a stock feature on a four step four step quadcok motorcycle. The all-new engine, frame, and bodywork are also the main focal points of a completely new motorcycle.
For 2020, Yamaha has perfected a different rear-to-rear cylinder design for the engine. Using a compact starter motor and a lightweight lithium-ion battery, the 2020 YZ250F is now equipped with an electric start, and a DOHC engine, four valves, liquid fuel injection, coolant cooled, DOHC, four valves, equipped with a straight forward downdraft feature with intake symmetrical and exhaust port. The fuel is sent by a 44mm throttle body that is lighter through a new 12-hole Denso injector. A new high-compression high-pressure piston has a bridge-box design for additional strength with minimal weight. DLC-coated pistons, rings and piston pins, along with offset cylinder configurations, are all designed to reduce friction loss and contribute to quick response.

2020 Yamaha YZ250F – Engine
All-new of the cases, the engine is now equipped with electric start and capability tuning features with the Yamaha Power Tuner application which was first introduced at Yamaha YZ450F last year. The previous generation Yamaha YZ250F was praised for having low-end and large midrange power coupled with a lot of torque, all of which is not the quality normally associated with a 250-stroke motocross motorbike. However, the 2014 to 2018 model does not continue to draw at the top, which requires the bike to be shifted faster in the rpm range.
Yamaha is aware of this, because one of the goals for the new motorbike is to increase the midrange to the top-end pull. And blue works; almost immediately we can pull each tooth longer and higher at rpm before needing to raise the teeth. The over-rev on the Yamaha YZ250F is still not as strong as some of the other motors in the class, but the impressive amount of low-end torque combined with increased top-end power makes it suitable for wider riders of various skill levels.
All New Machines for 2020
With a new all-new engine, new frame, new bodywork and more, the 2020 YZ250F is ready to win the competition, with features that have never existed before in the 250cc class.
Power Tuner application
Yamaha is opening a new breakthrough with the Power Tuner application, placing the flexibility and precision of the GYTR® Power Tuner to your smartphone. Make refueling and ignition time will change instantly and upload it to the bike via the onboard WiFi system for the ultimate side-track tuning.
Electric Starter System
Utilizing a compact starter motor and a very lightweight lithium battery, the YZ250F offers the convenience of a push-button starting from horse racing, to restart easily under pressure, and to drive casually when the clock does not beat.
New Machine
Cylinder heads, pistons, updated cam profiles, cylindrical geometry, and many more work together to give riders the best balance of the high rpm power with a wide and usable powerband.
New Frame
Yamaha’s bilateral beam frame features a new main spar, engine mount and engine mounting position to further focus the mass and provide an ideal balance between cornering and straight line rigidity.
Leading-Class Suspension
Yamaha continues to use spring-type forks with smooth, speed-sensitive damping to provide industry-leading suspension performance directly outside the box. 2020 presents the latest settings to adjust the updated engine frame and layout.

2020 Yamaha YZ250F – Features
The 2020 Yamaha YZ250F maintains the Speed-Sensitive System spring-type forks (SSS) found on previous generation engines but with updated settings, larger pistons, and newly designed fork lugs / axle brackets designed to provide good balance between handling and absorbed lumps. KYB shock has new damping characteristics that match the new chassis and new, lighter spring. Finally, the reservoir shock has been increased by 30cc to improve damping control during long motos.
Along with the all-new engine, the chassis is another area of the YZ250F which has been very smooth. The 2020 model has a new frame with revised geometry and engine mounting, a stiffer axle collar, and fork lugs, a narrower fuel tank and radiator sheath, and thinner and lower seats.
The narrower radiator hood is the most noticeable change when riding the 2020 YZ250F. One of our minor complaints about 2014 to 2018 motorbikes is that they feel quite wide between the riders’ legs when sitting, but the sensation is much less on a new bike. The stiffness that increases from the frame is another revision that is quickly seen that, in combination with a stronger suspension arrangement, makes the bike react faster to driver input.
