Vlaanderen undergoes successful surgery
Vlaanderen subisce un intervento chirurgico di successo
Dopo aver ferito la caviglia destra e il perone nello scorso weekend MXGP del Trentino, Calvin Vlaanderen del Team HRC è stato sottoposto ad un intervento chirurgico per riparare il danno, con la procedura che ha funzionato molto bene.
Durante le prove cronometrate del sabato pomeriggio, Vlaanderen si è storto la caviglia durante il suo hotlap e nonostante fosse ancora in grado di impostare il giro più veloce della sessione, ha dovuto ritirarsi immediatamente sul camion. Dopo aver tentato di correre la gara di qualifica era evidente dopo un giro che il dolore era troppo e ha cercato consigli medici in loco. Le scansioni hanno mostrato che aveva una fibula fratturata e una grave distorsione alla caviglia, con il consiglio di andare a fare immediatamente l’intervento.
Lunedì mattina, Vlaanderen ha avuto l’operazione eseguita dall’ottimo dott. Claes e ora è già nelle prime fasi di ripresa. Con un gesso per proteggere l’area, Vlaanderen spera di iniziare la fisioterapia in un paio di settimane, con l’obiettivo di fare un ritorno al prossimo round del campionato l’11-12 maggio sulla pista di Mantova in Italia.

Ovviamente sono estremamente deluso per quello capitato nel weekend. Mi sentivo davvero bene con la moto e stavo preparando il giro più veloce quando mi sono storto la caviglia. Non ho avuto incidenti o niente, quindi è stato un vero shock vedere la radiografia con la frattura della fibula.
Fortunatamente, con il supporto della squadra e dell’eccellente dottor Claes, ho avuto l’intervento chirurgico che è andato molto bene. Spero di levare il tutore in meno di un paio di settimane e iniziare fisio e ciclismo poco dopo, con l’obiettivo di essere in forma e pronto a partire per il quinto round del campionato MX2 a Mantova l’11-12 maggio.
Grazie per tutto il supporto che ho ricevuto da quando è stata pubblicata la notizia, è davvero bello vedere così tanti fan raggiungermi con i loro messaggi e mi dà ancora più motivazione a tornare più forte che mai. Desidero anche congratularmi con il mio compagno di squadra del Team HRC Tim Gajser per la sua straordinaria prestazione nel vincere il GP del Trentino. Ha guidato molto bene e ha pienamente meritato quella vittoria.

È stato un vero peccato che Calvin si sia infortunato lo scorso fine settimana, ma siamo estremamente contenti della notizia che l’intervento è andato bene e che spera di essere pronto per il prossimo round della serie MX2. L’evento avrà luogo tra cinque settimane e tutti nel Team HRC faranno di tutto per supportare Calvin con la sua guarigione e assicurarsi che sia pienamente preparato e che si senta al meglio quando il prossimo cancello cadrà.

After injuring his right ankle and fibula at last weekend’s MXGP of Trentino, Team HRC’s Calvin Vlaanderen underwent surgery to repair the damage, with the procedure going extremely well.
During the timed practice on Saturday afternoon, Vlaanderen twisted his ankle whilst on his hotlap and even though he was still able to set the fastest lap of the session, he had to retire immediately back to the truck. After attempting to race the qualifying race it was apparent after one lap, the pain was too much and he sought on-site medical advice at the track. Scans showed he had a fractured fibula and a severe ankle sprain, with the advice being to go and get the surgery done straight away.
On Monday morning, Vlaanderen had the successful operation performed by the highly-regarded Dr Claes and is now already in the initial signs of recovery. With a cast on right now to protect the area, Vlaanderen will hope to start physio in a couple weeks, with the goal of making a comeback at the next round of the championship on May 11-12 at the Mantova track in Italy.

Obviously I’m extremely disappointed to have this happen to me at the weekend. I was feeling really good on the bike and was in the process of setting the fastest lap when I just twisted my ankle. I didn’t crash or anything so it was a real shock to see the x-ray show that I fractured my fibula.
Thankfully, with the support of the team and the excellent Dr Claes, I have since had the surgery which went extremely well. I hope to have the cast off in less than a couple of weeks and begin physio and cycling shortly after that, with the goal of being fit and ready to go for the fifth round of the MX2 championship in Mantova on May 11-12.
Thanks for all the support I have received since the news broke, it is really nice to see so many fans reach out with their messages and it gives me even greater motivation to comeback stronger than ever. I also wish to say congratulations to my Team HRC teammate Tim Gajser for his amazing performance in winning the MXGP of Trentino. He rode really well and he fully deserved that victory.

It was a real shame for Calvin to injure himself last weekend, but we are extremely happy with the news that the surgery went well and that he hopes to be ready for the next round of the MX2 series. That event takes place in five weeks’ time and everyone at Team HRC will do everything to support Calvin with his recovery and make sure he is fully prepared and feeling back to his best when the next gate drops.
