Prado on Herlings / Cairoli: “Sono interessato a vedere cosa accadrà …”
Come molti fan del MXGP, il campione del mondo MX2 Jorge Prado si godrà la prospettiva dei compagni di squadra della Red Bull KTM Jeffrey Herlings e Tony Cairoli impegnati in un altro duello per la corona della classe regina nel 2019. Lo spagnolo, che ha compiuto diciotto anni, ha una conoscenza approfondita di come Cairoli, 33 anni, abbia condotto il periodo di bassa stagione e l’inverno, in quanto si è impegnato a detronizzare Herlings e ottenere il suo decimo titolo. Prado ha voluto sottolineare che il suo mentore siciliano è pronto ad affrontare la minaccia e la forma di Herlings: l’olandese ha vinto 17 vittorie su 20 nel 2018 ed è stato sempre presente sul podio MXGP.
Forse la più grande domanda in MXGP ruota intorno al desiderio e alla capacità di Cairoli di eguagliare l’intensità di Herlings quest’anno.
“Vedremo”, riflette Prado. “Sono anche interessato a vedere cosa accadrà! Tony sta migliorando di sicuro e sta diventando sempre più forte in posti dove ha lottato l’anno scorso. Ci alleniamo tutti i giorni e ci spingiamo l’un l’altro. Spero che farà bene. “
Prado condividerà la tenda Red Bull KTM con il nuovo compagno di squadra e il debuttante del Gran Prix Tom Vialle – il 18enne francese è in contrasto con la provata e potente abilità di Pauls Jonass che si sta attualmente riprendendo da un intervento chirurgico al ginocchio come parte della nuovissima linea -up per Rockstar Energy IceOne Husqvarna in MXGP. Prado ha una mentalità aperta su eventuali potenziali sorprese e rivali mentre si propone di diventare solo il terzo atleta in questo secolo per vincere titoli di MX2 back-to-back.
“C’erano un paio di ragazzi che hanno fatto il podio per la prima volta l’anno scorso e mi aspetto che tornino di nuovo forti, ma penso che ci saranno altri corridori in lizza per buoni risultati a cui le persone non pensano necessariamente, ” Egli ha detto. “Ho solo bisogno di preoccuparmi di me stesso e di ridurre gli errori che ho commesso l’anno scorso”.

Prado on Herlings/Cairoli ‘2’: “I’m interested to watch what will happen…”
Like many fans of MXGP, MX2 World Champion Jorge Prado will be relishing the prospect of Red Bull KTM teammates Jeffrey Herlings and Tony Cairoli engaging in another close duel for the premier class crown in 2019. The Spaniard, who recently turned eighteen years of age, has intimate knowledge of how 33 year old Cairoli has negotiated the off-season and winter period as he bids to dethrone Herlings and claim his tenth title. Prado was keen to emphasise that his Sicilian mentor is prepared to tackle Herlings’ capable threat and form: the Dutchman won 17 from 20 rounds in 2018 and was ever-present on the MXGP podium.
Perhaps the biggest question in MXGP revolves around Cairoli’s desire and ability to match Herlings’ intensity this year. “We will see,” Prado muses. “I’m also interested to watch what will happen! Tony is improving for sure and he is getting stronger all the time in places where he struggled last year. We train together every day and we push each other. I hope he will do well.”
Prado will share the Red Bull KTM awning with new teammate and Grand Prix rookie Tom Vialle – the 18 year old Frenchman is a contrast to the proven and potent ability of Pauls Jonass who is currently rehabbing from knee surgery as part of the all-new line-up for Rockstar Energy IceOne Husqvarna in MXGP. Prado is keeping open-minded about any potential surprises and rivals as he bids to become only the third athlete this century to win back-to-back MX2 crowns.
“There were a couple of guys who made the podium for the first time last year and I expect them to be strong again, but I think there will be other riders [in contention for good results] that people don’t necessarily think about,” he said. “I just need to worry about myself and to reduce the mistakes I made last year.”
