Successful surgery for Gajser – return to full fitness for MXGP 2019
Tim Gajser ha subito l’ultimo intervento chirurgico per l’infortunio alla mascella che, in misura maggiore o minore, lo ha turbato per tutta la sua campagna MXG 2018 con il Team HRC.
Il 18 febbraio, Gajser ha subito la frattura doppia alla mandibola nella fase finale degli Internazionali d’Italia a Mantova, appena due settimane prima dell’inizio della stagione del Grand Prix. Con un periodo di riposo forzato ha mancato il round di apertura della stagione in Argentina per tornare a Valkenswaard, ma aveva perso il cruciale tempo di allenamento pre-campionato.
L’infortunio ha continuato a giocare un ruolo nella sua stagione, insieme allo svantaggio di iniziare il campionato dopo, ma nel tipico modo grintoso di Gajser ha continuato a conquistare il podio sul # 243 CRF450RW.
In Slovenia, il 6 novembre 2018, Gajser ha effettuato l’ultimo intervento chirurgico per rimuovere le placche in titanio e la lavorazione dei metalli che da febbraio aveva dato forza alla sua mascella, aprendo la strada a un ritorno alla piena potenza per la stagione MXGP 2019.
Ad oggi, venerdì 9 novembre, è stato autorizzato a ricominciare a guidare immediatamente.

“E ‘bello aver avuto l’ultimo intervento chirurgico per rimuovere tutti i pezzi di metallo dalla mia mascella – non penso che la gente abbia capito che avevo tante placche e viti che mi tenevano la mascella tutta la stagione! E ‘stato un grande incidente a Mantova, quindi mi sento fortunato ad averlo fatto con la mascella, ma è stato comunque un grande infortunio che mi ha condizionato per tutta la stagione – abbiamo iniziato perdendo tempo e allenamento sulla moto nel pre season e mancare l’Argentina, che ha avuto un effetto a catena per tutta la stagione. Per molto tempo non ho nemmeno potuto mangiare correttamente, così ho sofferto anche in quel modo.
“Ora ho avuto questa operazione ci vorrà un po ‘di tempo per tornare alla normalità perché c’è un po’ di dolore alla mascella, che è normale dopo un intervento chirurgico, ma sono così contento che è andato tutto bene e ora possiamo lasciarlo totalmente alle spalle. Facendolo ora abbiamo il tempo di assicurarci che torniamo al 100% sulla moto per la prossima stagione e non vedo l’ora “.

Tim Gajser has had the final surgery on the jaw injury that, to a greater or lesser extent, troubled him throughout his 2019 MXGP campaign with Team HRC.
Gajser suffered the double lower jaw fracture at the final round of the Internazionali d’Italia in Mantova on 18 February, just two weeks before the start of the Grand Prix season. With a period of enforced rest he missed the opening round of the season in Argentina to return in Valkenswaard, but had missed crucial pre-season training time.
The injury continued to play a part in his season, coupled with the disadvantage of starting on the back foot, but in typical gritty Gajser fashion he soldiered on to bring home podium finishes on the #243 CRF450RW.
In Slovenia on 6 November 2018, Gajser had the final surgery to remove the titanium plates and metalwork that had been providing strength to his jaw since February, paving the way for a return to full strength for the 2019 MXGP season.
As of today, Friday 9 November, he has been medically cleared to start riding again immediately.

“It’s good to have had the final surgery to remove all the metalwork from my jaw – I don’t think people realised I had that many brackets and screws holding my jaw together all season! It was a big crash in Mantova so I feel lucky to have got away with it with just the jaw, but it was still a big injury that did affect me all season – we started by losing training time and time on the bike in the pre-season and then missing Argentina, and that had a knock-on effect throughout the season. For a long time I couldn’t even eat properly, so I suffered that way too.
“Now I have had this operation it will take a little time for me to return to normal because there is some pain in the jaw, which is normal after such surgery, but I’m so pleased that it all went well and we can now leave it totally behind. By doing it now we have time to make sure we’re back to 100 per cent on the bike for next season, and I can’t wait.”
