Herlings richiede una revisione iniziale del Grand Prix
Il campione del mondo MXGP Jeffrey Herlings ha utilizzato l’ultima conferenza stampa del Campionato mondiale FIM Motocross 2018 per suggerire che la serie potrebbe rivedere il processo per la qualificazione e assegnare più benefici al vincitore della gara sprint del sabato; un sistema che è stato usato dallo sport per dieci anni.
Herlings, che ha trionfato 13 volte su 19 sabati di quest’anno, ritiene che un inizio scaglionato o un design alterato della pista possano contribuire a ottenere questo effetto. MXGP ha iniziato ad abbracciare la qualifica Heats nel 2009 e con il calendario allungato ha significato che i piloti del Gran Premio hanno affrontato 60 partenze dal cancello nella stagione 2018.
Si è parlato per diversi anni del cambio del programma del sabato o dell’incremento dell’importanza della gara di qualifica. Alcuni hanno preferito il ritorno alla standard Qualification Chrono o l’adozione di uno stile Superpole come la SBK World. Altri hanno ritenuto che se dovesse rimanere la gara del sabato (inizialmente introdotta per offrire più valore al pubblico che partecipa a un fine settimana di GP completo), l’aggiunta di diversi punti per il campionato mondiale potrebbe aiutare con la rilevanza dei rischi extra.
Herlings stava parlando all’ultima tappa ad Imola, dove la prima curva a destra favoriva una posizione di porta interna ma la larghezza della curva amplificava l’altra parte in partenza.
“Dovrebbero dare più di un vantaggio con l’inizio e speriamo che in futuro lo renderanno più estremo; più come in MotoGP o in Formula 1 “, rifletté l’olandese. “Se hai una Pole Position, allora è un grande vantaggio, molto più nel motocross. Dovrebbero renderlo ancora più estremo in modo da avere un vantaggio e rendere il sabato di più valore. ”

Herlings calls for Grand Prix start review
MXGP World Champion Jeffrey Herlings used the last press conference of the 2018 FIM Motocross World Championship to suggest that the series could review the process for Qualification and award more benefit for the winner of the Saturday sprint race; a system that has now been used by the sport for ten years.
Herlings, who triumphed 13 times from 19 Saturdays this year, believes that a staggered start or altered track design would help achieve this effect. MXGP started to embrace Qualification Heats back in 2009 and with the lengthening calendar it meant Grand Prix riders faced 60 gatedrops in the 2018 season.
There has been some talk for several years of changing the Saturday programme or increasing the importance of the Heat race. Some favoured a return to the standard Qualification Chrono or to adopt a WorldSBK style ‘Superpole’. Others felt that if the Saturday dash had to remain (initially introduced to offer more value to public attending a full GP weekend) then the addition of several world championship points would help with the relevance of the extra risks involved.
Herlings was talking at the final round of twenty at Imola, where the opening right first turn favoured an inside gate position but the width of the corner amplified the parity of the start.
“They should make more of an advantage with the start and hopefully in the future they will make it more extreme; more like in MotoGP or Formula One,” the Dutchman mused. “If you have a Pole Position there then it is a big advantage, much more than motocross. They should make it even more extreme so that you have an advantage and Saturday is worth more.”
