GP of Italy – Imola – Rider Comments
GP of ITALY nel tracciato creato appositamente per questo evento, a nostro avviso bello e tecnico, magari un pò difficile per il fondo, solo qualcuno è riuscito ad andare forte e sapete già a chi ci riferiamo, dicevamo tecnico, lavorato bene e fortunatamente non ci sono stati infortuni o cadute importanti e come detto per Assen, stiamo rivalutando questo tipo di tracciati! Comunque, tornando a quello che è stata la gara ad Imola, Jeffrey Herlings con l’ultima schiacciante doppietta che lo porta a conquistare il 17° GP Mondiale nella massima categoria e 4 Mondiali vinti, Tony Cairoli purtroppo non è riuscito a schierarsi la domenica dopo la caduta del sabato, un ottimo Ale Lupino che prende l’holeshot ma poi una caduta lo manda fuori gara e non si schiera nemmeno per la seconda, mentre a lottare per le posizioni del podio finale sono Gajser che fa secondo due volte e Desalle che fa terzo per due volte e conquista il 3° gradino del podio assoluto, bene tanti piloti che non abbiamo visto durante la stagione!
MX2 solo 4 punti lasciavano sperare matematicamente Jonass per un attacco al titolo, ma giovedì arrivò la notizia che il ginocchio infortunato in Turchia fu operato, lasciando di fatto il titolo a Jorge Prado che solo al termine della gara 1 ha festeggiato in pista diventando così il più giovane pilota a vincere un mondiale! Dietro di lui il vuoto, solo i piloti Husky sono riusciti a finire a podio, Olsen e Covington, ma da osservare le bellissime prestazioni di Furlotti con un holeshot spettacolare nel GP di casa, Bernardini in gara 2 e Cervellin con un 4° assoluto!

RIDERS MXGP PODIO
Jeffrey Herlings: “Un ottimo modo per finire l’anno. È stata una grande esperienza, un grande anno e grandi ricordi. Voglio soprattutto ringraziare la mia squadra. Se guardi alle statistiche, è stato davvero incredibile e quasi un anno indescrivibile. Sarà difficile da realizzare nuovamente, penso. Il mio obiettivo ora è andare all’1-1 al Nazioni. Questa sarebbe la ciliegina sulla torta ed è la prossima cosa nella lista dei desideri. Vedremo!”
Tim Gajser: È bello finire la stagione sul podio: quello era l’obiettivo e l’abbiamo fatto. Non è stata una stagione facile per noi, e ci sono stati molti alti e bassi, ma nella seconda parte della stagione abbiamo davvero intensificato il nostro gioco e siamo riusciti a migliorare gara dopo gara. Nel complesso devo essere felice, soprattutto considerando quello che è successo all’inizio dell’anno. Sono grato e grato di poter essere qui. La stagione è andata così velocemente e ora non vedo l’ora che inizi il prossimo; si spera che le cose andranno bene per tutto l’inverno. La moto è stata fantastica, ma sono certo che HRC farà del suo meglio per migliorare ancora di più. Lavorerò più che posso, e darò tutto ciò che devo combattere per il titolo. Ancora una volta, vorrei ringraziare tutti al Team HRC per il loro eccezionale supporto; sono come una famiglia per me.
Clément Desalle: «È stata una buona stagione. Ero coerente e ho evitato qualsiasi infortunio, contrariamente alle altre stagioni recenti che non sono riuscito a finire. Un GP vinto; di sicuro mi sarebbe piaciuto di più ma non è facile con Herlings e Cairoli in giro, ma non mi arrendo e continuerò a lavorare sodo con il team e la nuova moto per portare ancora più successo a Kawasaki. Sono sicuro che la nuova moto avrà un grande potenziale e sono davvero felice di lavorare con questa squadra; è importante per me essere felice nel fare quello che faccio, e con i ragazzi KRT abbiamo un ottimo rapporto dalla meccanica al capo e al manager. Sono felice con la stagione; nove podi, nessun infortunio e una medaglia nella classifica finale sono un buon risultato e sono sicuro che potremo fare ancora meglio perché ci conosciamo molto bene. Ho un ottimo feeling con la moto e ogni anno faccio piccoli aggiustamenti per essere ancora meglio quindi sono fiducioso per il futuro. Questo fine settimana è stato diverso rispetto alle altre gare; Volevo il podio della serie così tanto che ho guidato al sicuro e concludere la stagione con un podio è fantastico. »
RIDERS MX2 PODIO
Jorge Prado: “Ho saputo di essere campione del mondo giovedì ed è stato davvero strano. Non me lo aspettavo e pensavo di correre contro Pauls questo fine settimana … Ho voluto comunque vincere, ci tenevo per dimostrare che avrei vinto comunque il titolo. Dopo la prima manche la festa in pista è stata fantastica e emozionante. Ringrazio la mia famiglia, il team KTM e tutti i miei tifosi, oggi numerosissimi, e il pubblico italiano che mi ha acclamato a lungo”.
Thomas Kjer-Olsen: “È fantastico concludere questa stagione con il terzo posto nel campionato MX2. Nel corso dell’anno sono salito sul podio 10 volte realizzando anche una vittoria di GP. È stata una stagione di gare lunga e impegnativa, e questo terzo posto in campionato è la miglior ricompensa per tutto il duro lavoro svolto. Dall’inizio del campionato fino a questo ultimo GP ad Imola ho dato veramente tutto quello che avevo. Sono fortunato ad avere questo fantastico team, che non ringrazierò mai abbastanza per essere stato al mio fianco passo dopo passo.”
Thomas Covington:“Questo è il mio ultimo GP, il che ha reso il weekend qui in Italia piuttosto stressante: sono contento di averlo concluso sul podio. La pista era scivolosa e piuttosto tecnica, ma ho attaccato dal primo all’ultimo minuto per ottenere il miglior risultato possibile. In Gara1 ho commesso qualche errore negli ultimi giri, perdendo l’occasione di entrare nei primi tre. Poi in Gara2 sono partito bene, e ho mantenuto un buon passo fino alla fine. Sono davvero felice di aver concluso la stagione sul podio.”
ALTRI COMMENTI PILOTI
Tony Cairoli: “Sono stato davvero felice di essere qui e penso che questo posto sia un buon modo per intensificare il nostro sport, ma dobbiamo semplicemente lavorare un po ‘meglio in pista. La posizione è fantastica e abbiamo visto molte persone. E ‘un peccato che non ho potuto prendere parte alla gara, ma dopo il sabato sono stato male e sapevo che sarebbe stato molto difficile per me partire dall’esterno del cancello. Stavo pensando al quadro generale e il Nazioni che è molto importante per me e per l’Italia. Il nostro obiettivo è quello di salire sul podio perché il campionato era già finito e Jeffrey ha vinto molto tempo e meritava il titolo. Il secondo posto è stato positivo per i nostri sforzi quest’anno “.
Julien Lieber: «È stato un grande fine settimana; il mio migliore dopo molto tempo! Ho avuto un buon ritmo per tutto il weekend e oggi ho potuto guadagnare molti posti nei primi due turni e poi ho dovuto lottare con Simpson in entrambe le gare per finire quinto. Finisco la mia prima stagione MXGP con un quarto posto assoluto; è un ottimo modo per concludere la stagione! Voglio ringraziare la squadra. Sono sempre stati dietro di me; abbiamo avuto alcuni alti e bassi con l’infortunio, ma hanno sempre lavorato duro. Non vedo l’ora di provare la nuova moto; la motivazione è lì dopo un risultato così buono. ”
Gautier Paulin: “E ‘stata una lunga stagione e sono felice di finire quinto in campionato.La pista artificiale qui a Imola è stata dura e si è distrutta man mano che la gara è andata avanti. Nella gara d’apertura non ho avuto il meglio inizia ma ha avuto una bella lotta con il gruppo di testa per finire quarto, poi in gara 2 la mia partenza non è stata ancora una volta buona e ho faticato con il sole rendendo difficile vedere in vari punti.Abbiamo avuto alcuni alti e bassi quest’anno , ma nel complesso sono soddisfatto del quinto posto nel campionato 2018. È stata una buona stagione per me e voglio ringraziare la mia squadra per il duro lavoro e la dedizione. I miei occhi sono focalizzati ora sul Motocross delle Nazioni del prossimo weekend e io farò il mio meglio per difendere il trofeo del Team France con il # 1 sul mio Husqvarna. ”
Max Anstie: “È stato un GP difficile e ho faticato con le mie partenze in entrambe le manche. Nella prima gara sono riuscito a fare dei buoni giri di apertura e ho fatto delle buone posizioni. La mia velocità era buona e ho concluso nono. Non iniziare bene in Moto 2 ha reso la mia vita più difficile. La linea era una in molti punti quindi non c’erano molte linee per fare passaggi. Sono entusiasta di andare ora negli Stati Uniti per correre per il Team Great Britain. Il Motocross delle Nazioni è stato il momento clou del mio anno nel 2017 e spero di ottenere altrettanto buoni risultati il prossimo fine settimana a Red Bud “.
Glenn Coldenhoff: “Ho avuto un piccolo incidente durante la qualifica ieri e ho danneggiato il freno anteriore, questo mi ha fatto arretrare abbastanza con il sedicesimo oggi e su un 180 della prima curva è stato difficile. Ho fatto il meglio. Il nostro obiettivo all’inizio della stagione doveva essere molto più consistente ed ero vicino al quinto posto in campionato. Nel complesso penso di poter essere felice della stagione. ”
Jeremy Van Horebeek: “Questo fine settimana non è stato male, in questa pista hai bisogno di una buona partenza, e io non ero una volta nella top-five, devo sempre arrivare in testa, il che è difficile ma sono riuscito per finire tra i primi cinque nell’ultima gara. ”
Shaun Simpson: “È stato un imprevisto, sono totalmente onesto, questo tipo di pista non è una pista che di solito mi va bene, ma sono andato là fuori e ho dato assolutamente tutto in queste due manche. Molto nella prima gara, e sono rimasto davvero deluso quando Jeremy mi ha passato all’ultimo giro, e poi gli ultimi giri della seconda gara mi hanno deluso, il che è un peccato, ma c’è una nota positiva, è stato un ottimo modo per terminare la stagione con un tono alto. Sicuramente sento di avere il ritmo per correre tra i primi cinque, e questa è una motivazione in più per uscire con l’anno prossimo. ”
Jeremy Seewer: “Mi è piaciuto molto questo fine settimana, ho fatto delle buone battaglie in entrambe le gare e ho trovato questa pista abbastanza divertente da guidare, probabilmente è un po ‘piccola per una pista da GP, ma è molto divertente. Il sorpasso difficile, ma se sei più veloce, puoi passare. Nella prima gara ho fatto una buona partenza e stavo passando un altro pilota per il terzo posto prima di essere coinvolto in un incidente di gara in cui le nostre linee si sono unite e siamo caduti. Mi fa male un po ‘il ginocchio, ma non è niente di che, nella finale ho avuto il miglior inizio della stagione e stavo andando per l’holeshot ma ho perso le ruote alla prima curva e sono stato colpito. Mi sono ritrovato ultimo, quindi non ho spinto al massimo perché non ha più importanza per il campionato, sono contento di essere in salute e attendo con ansia il “Nazioni il prossimo fine settimana”.

MXGP
Jeffrey Herlings: “A great way to finish the year. It has been a great experience, a great year and great memories. I especially want to thank my team. If you look to the statistics then it has been pretty unbelievable and almost an indescribable year. It will be hard to accomplish again I think. My goal now is to go 1-1 at the Nations. That would be the cherry on the cake and is the next thing on the wish list. We’ll see!”
Tim Gajser: It’s good to finish the season on the podium: that was the goal and we did it. It was not an easy season for us, and there have been many ups and downs, but in the second part of the season we really stepped up our game and we managed to improve race after race. Overall I have to be happy, especially given what happened at the start of the year. I’m grateful and thankful that I can be here. The season went so quickly and now I cannot wait for the next one to start; hopefully things will go smoothly throughout the winter. The bike was amazing but I’m sure HRC will do their best to improve it even more. I will work as hard as I can, and I will give everything I have to fight for the title. Once again, I would like to thank everyone at Team HRC for their outstanding support; they are like a family to me.
Clément Desalle: « It was a good season. I was consistent and avoided any injury, in contrast to other recent seasons which I was unable to finish. One GP win; for sure I would have liked more but that’s not easy with Herlings and Cairoli around, but I won’t give up and will continue to work hard with the team and the new bike to bring Kawasaki even more success. I’m sure the new bike will have great potential, and I’m really happy to work with this team; it’s important for me to be happy doing what I do, and with the KRT boys we’ve a great relationship from the mechanics to the boss and the manager. I’m happy with the season; nine podiums, no injuries and a medal placing in the final standings are a good result and I’m sure we can do even better as we know each other really well. I have a great feeling on the bike and every year e make little adjustments to be even better so I’m confident for the future. This weekend was different than the other races; I wanted the series podium so much that I rode safe and to end the season with a podium is great. »
MX2
Jorge Prado: ““I knew about being World Champion on Thursday and it was a weird moment. I didn’t expect it and thought I’d race against Pauls this weekend…but I still did my best out there today and wanted to show why I won the world title. I really felt I was world champion after that first moto and in the celebration. Overall I so happy with the weekend and the way we ended the season.”
Thomas Kjer-Olsen: “It feels great to end this season with third in the MX2 championship. Throughout the year I got on the podium ten times and I also got one overall win. It’s been a long and demanding year of racing and this third place in the championship is the best reward for all the hard work. From the start of the series until the very last GP here at Imola I really did all I could. I am lucky to have this great team and I can’t thank them enough for standing by my side in every step I take.”
Thomas Covington: “With this being my last GP it’s been a stressful weekend here in Italy and I am glad I wrapped it up with a spot on the podium. The track was slippery and quite technical, but I kept pushing for the best possible result in each and every session. In the opening moto I made a few mistakes in the last few laps and missed the chance for a top-three result. Then in moto two I got off to a good start and kept a good pace from start to finish. I’m really happy to end this season on the podium.”
OTHER RIDERS
Cairoli: “I was really happy to be here and I think this place is a good way to step up our sport but we just need to work a bit better on the track. The location is fantastic and we saw a lot of people. It is a shame I could not take part in the race but I was sore after yesterday and I knew it would be very hard for me from the outside of the gate. I was thinking about the big picture and the Nations is very important for me and for Italy. Our goal is to make the podium there because the championship was already done and Jeffrey won a lot of time and deserved the title. Second place was good for our efforts this year.”
Julien Lieber: « It was a great weekend; my best one for a long time! I had a good rhythm all weekend long and today I could gain many places through the first two turns and then had to battle with Simpson in both races to finish fifth. I finish my first MXGP season with a fourth place overall; it’s a great way to end the season! I want to thanks the team. They have always been behind me; we had some ups and downs with injury but they always worked hard. I can’t wait to test the new bike; the motivation is there after such a good result.”
Gautier Paulin: “It was a long season and I am happy to finish fifth in the championship. The man-made track here at Imola was tough and got destroyed as the racing went on. In the opening moto I did not get the best of starts but had a good fight with the leading pack to finish fourth. Then in race two my start wasn’t that good once again and I struggled with the sun making it hard to see in various places. We had some ups and downs this year, but overall I am satisfied with fifth in the 2018 championship. It was a good season for me and I want to thank my team for all their hard work and dedication. My eyes are focused now on next weekend’s Motocross of Nations and I will do my best to defend Team France’s trophy with the #1 on my Husqvarna.”
Max Anstie: “It’s been a challenging GP and I struggled with my starts in both motos. In the first race I managed to put in strong opening laps and made some good positions. My speed was good and I finished ninth. Not getting a good start in moto two made my life harder. The track was one-rutted in many places so there were not that many lines to make passes. I am excited to head to the States now to race for Team Great Britain. The Motocross of Nations has been the highlight of my year in 2017 and I am hoping for equally good results next weekend at Red Bud.”
Coldenhoff: “I had a small crash in the qualifying heat yesterday and damaged the front brake, this dropped me back quite far with the sixteenth gate pick today and on a 180 first turn it was difficult. I made the best of it. Our goal at the beginning of the season was to be way-more consistent and I was close to fifth in the championship. Overall I think I can be happy with the season.”
Jeremy Van Horebeek: “This weekend was not so bad. This track, you need a good start, and I was not once inside the top-five. I always have to work my way up to the front, which is hard but I managed to finish inside the top five in the last race.”
Shaun Simpson: “It has been an unexpected if I am totally honest. This kind of track is not a track that would typically suit me but I went out there and I put absolutely everything into those two motos. I probably put a little bit too much into the first race, and I was really disappointed when Jeremy got me on the last lap again, and then the last few laps of the second race let me down which is a bit of a shame, but on a positive note, it was a great way to end the season on a high note. I definitely feel I have the pace to run inside the top-five, and that is extra motivation to come out swinging next year.”
Jeremy Seewer: “I really enjoyed this weekend. I had some good battles in both races and I found this track quite fun to ride. It’s probably a little small for a GP track, but it’s a lot of fun. People say you can’t pass, but if you are quicker, then you can pass. In the first race I had a good start and was passing another rider for third-place before I got involved in a racing incident where our lines came together and we crashed. I hurt my knee a little bit, but its nothing too bad. In the final moto, I had the best start of the season and was going for the holeshot but lost my wheels at the first corner and got hit. I had to start from dead last, so I didn’t push to hard because it didn’t matter for the championship any more. I am happy to be healthy and I look forward to the ‘Nations next weekend.”
