(ASSEN) Paesi Bassi, 18 Settembre 2018 – Con la folla olandese di Motocross dietro di lui nella sua gara di casa ad Assen, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Jeffrey Herlings ha fatto la storia prendendo il suo primo titolo MXGP del campionato del mondo con altri 3 FIM Motocross World Championship i titoli a suo nome in MX2. Herlings la prima volta ha gareggiato nel Campionato Mondiale Motocross FIM nel 2010 durante il MXGP della Bulgaria a Sevlievo. Dal momento della sua prima gara MX2 in Bulgaria all’età di 15 anni l’olandese è andato a vincere 83 World Championship GP compreso l’ MXGP dei Paesi Bassi a Valkenswaard solo 2 settimane dopo il suo primo in Bulgaria.

Nella sua seconda stagione nella classe premier MXGP Herlings ha vinto 31 delle 38 gare disputate in 16 paesi diversi. 19 round dei 20 Herlings ha perso solo una volta il podio in una gara che non ha nemmeno partecipato, ad Ottobiano. In 16 dei podi raggiunti Herlings ha preso il primo posto e gli altri 2 ha segnato il suo peggior risultato dell’anno in 2° posizione a discapito di Monster Energy Kawasaki Factory Clement Desalle e il 9 volte campione del mondo della Red Bull KTM Antonio Cairoli.

The “Bullet” (Proiettile) di Geldrop, Paesi Bassi, aveva non solo una stagione coerente, ma una posizione dominante, che porta 428 giri, Herlings ha condotto 127 giri in più rispetto al resto della concorrenza. Vincere le prime 2 gare del campionato in Argentina e Valkenswaard con le lotte attraverso il gruppo e l’ex campione in carica Cairoli, l’olandese ha dimostrato che era più che pronto a lottare per il suo primo titolo MXGP.

La concorrenza di Cairoli però, ha spinto Herlings ad essere il suo gioco in ogni momento soprattutto dopo aver perso a quella gara italiana e al turno 3 in Spagna. Herlings ha preso rapidamente la lotta di nuovo su Cairoli nella sua gara di casa, soprannominato il “Lions Den” di Herlings, in Trentino, Italia per il turno 4 e di nuovo in Portogallo. La seconda sconfitta per Herlings è venuta in Russia con Desalle, ma influenzato dalla perdita ha continuato a vincere i 12 gp successivi attraverso 11 vittorie doppie in gara. Herlings e la sua stagione non è stata senza problemi anche, ha sofferto di una clavicola rotta poco prima del MXGP di Lombardia ed è stato costretto a sedersi fuori il fine settimana.

Interrogato da molti se la sua forma fisica sarebbe rimasta tale dopo l’infortunio, Herlings è tornato a correre davanti nei 2 gp indonesiani e ha dimostrato che egli aveva appena saltato un turno e anche con il dolore per la guarigione della frattura è stato più veloce rispetto agli altri concorrenti. Ora incoronato il miglior pilota nella straordinaria stagione del Campionato del Mondo per Herlings non è ancora finita con la fase finale del campionato MXGP di Imola e il Monster Energy FIM Motocross delle Nazioni a redbud.

La domanda sempre più popolare di “chi può fermare The Bullet” è ancora irrisolta e gli sguardi su esso rimarranno un mistero per il futuro prevedibile, con un quarto piatto d’oro e titolo ben meritato FIM Motocross World Championship in mano all’età di solo 24 Herlings è ancora lontano.

(ASSEN) The Netherlands, 18 September 2018 – With the Dutch Motocross community behind him at his home round in Assen, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings has made history by taking his first ever MXGP World Championship title with 3 other FIM Motocross World Championship titles to his name in MX2. Herlings first competed in the FIM Motocross World Championship in 2010 during the MXGP of Bulgaria in Sevlievo. Since his first MX2 race in Bulgaria at age 15 the Dutchman has gone on to win 83 World Championship GP’s including the MXGP of the Netherlands in Valkenswaard only 2 weeks after his premier in Bulgaria.

In only his second season in the premier MXGP class Herlings has won 31 of the 38 races held across 16 different countries. 19 rounds into the 20 of the year Herlings has only missed the podium once at a race he didn’t even attend in Ottobiano. In 16 of the podiums achieved Herlings took the top spot and the other 2 marked his worst finishes of the year in 2nd only to Monster Energy Kawasaki Factory Racing’s Clement Desalle and 9 time World Champions from Red Bull KTM Antonio Cairoli.

The “Bullet” from Geldrop, Netherlands, had not only a consistent season but a dominant one, leading 428 laps, Herlings has led 127 laps more than the rest of the field combined. Winning the first 2 rounds of the championship in Argentina and Valkenswaard with fights through the pack and past defending Champion Cairoli the Dutchman showed he was more than ready to fight for his first MXGP title.

The competition from Cairoli however pushed Herlings to be on his game at all times especially after losing to the Italian at round 3 in Spain. Herlings quickly took the fight back to Cairoli his home round, nicknamed the “Lions Den” by Herlings, in Trentino, Italy for round 4 and again in Portugal. The second defeat for Herlings came in Russia to Desalle but unaffected by the loss he went on to win the next 12 rounds he entered via 11 double race wins. Herlings season was not without problems though as he suffered a broken collarbone just prior to the Fiat Professional MXGP of Lombardia and was forced to sit the weekend out.

Questioned by many if his form and fitness would stay true after the injury Herlings returned to racing at the first of 2 Indonesian rounds and proved that he had barely skipped a beat and even with the pain of a healing fracture was faster than the other competitors. Now crowned the best rider in the World Championship Herlings’ amazing season is still not over with the final round of the MXGP championship at Imola and the Monster FIM Motocross of Nations still to come at RedBud.

The ever popular question of “who can stop the Bullet” is still yet to be answered and by the looks of it will remain a mystery for the unforeseeable future, with a well deserved fourth FIM Motocross World Championship gold plate in his hands at age only 24 Herlings is far from done.
