GP of Turkey – Afyon – Rider Comments
GP of Turkey nel tracciato creato appositamente per questo evento, a nostro avviso bello ma non necessario, tecnico con ostacoli da indoor, lavorato bene e segnato per farlo diventare infernale e creare un weekend di gare dove le lotte si sono concluse, davanti Jeffrey Herlings con un altra schiacciante doppietta che lo porta a 95 punti di vantaggio e 82 GP vinti in carriera, Tony Cairoli combatte con gli infortuni e rimedia un altra caduta in gara2 mentre evita Anstie, molto bene Gajser e Desalle ancora sul podio e Febvre ricoverato dal sabato!! MX2 si vede brillare l’americano Covington, secondo Jonass che guadagna qualche punticino dopo una caduta per contatto con Prado che rimane saldamente in testa al campionato, terzo assoluto Olsen!

RIDERS MXGP PODIO
Jeffrey Herlings: “Assolutamente un grande fine settimana per me e sono le” tre di fila “di Qualifica Heat e entrambe le vittorie in manche, quindi devo dire un grande grazie alla squadra per il loro ottimo lavoro: hanno fatto un grande sacrificio e Non sarei dove sono oggi senza di loro. Non vedo l’ora che arrivi Assen perché ora siamo molto vicini al campionato e spero di finirlo. Come ho detto, sarà un sogno diventato realtà vincere nel mio GP di casa. Le possibilità di prendere questo titolo durante la carriera di un pilota sono comunque piccole, ma potenzialmente farlo nel mio paese sarebbe fantastico. Usciremo, faremo del nostro meglio e cercheremo di rimanere in salute per farlo “.
Tim Gajser: è stato un buon fine settimana e mi sono davvero divertito. La pista era bella e mi sentivo bene; insieme al team abbiamo lavorato sodo e abbiamo trovato un buon assetto – e mi sono sentito un tutt’uno con la moto. La gara di qualifica è andata bene ieri, ma in gara uno oggi ho faticato a trovare buone linee e ho finito per spingere troppo. La seconda gara è stata molto meglio, ho fatto alcuni passaggi all’inizio e poi ho cercato di colmare il divario con Jeffrey. Alla fine mi sono avvicinato molto a lui, ma non ho potuto fare un passaggio. Tuttavia, il secondo in classifica è un grande risultato, soprattutto perché è la seconda volta di fila – e ora non vedo l’ora che arrivi Assen.
Clément Desalle: “Sono davvero contento del mio terzo podio consecutivo, ieri non mi sentivo molto bene perché questa nuova pista era così veloce e noi eravamo al limite ma la pista si è sviluppata molto bene durante il fine settimana; Era molto tecniao e mi sentivo meglio ogni volta che andavo in moto: il team ha lavorato duramente su piccoli dettagli per farci avvicinare sempre di più alla vittoria, ma non è facile contro Herlings, è stata una bella sensazione per il team ottenere un altro holeshot premio oggi dopo che il mio compagno di squadra ne ha ottenuto uno anche in Svizzera. ”
RIDERS MX2 PODIO
Thomas Covington: “È da un pezzo che aspettavo di vincere un GP, e a questo punto dovrei averne vinti diversi! Io e il mio allenatore Joel Roelants abbiamo sgobbato per settimane, ed è bello tornare finalmente a casa con una vittoria in tasca. Nel complesso è stato un bel GP, ho fatto due holeshot e sono riuscito a tenere un buon passo in entrambe le manche. Dopo la vittoria in Gara1 ho cercato di ripetermi in Gara2 tenendo un passo elevato; ci sono riuscito quasi fino alla fine, quando un piccolo errore a due minuti dal termine mi ha costretto ad accontentarmi del terzo posto. Ma sono molto felice delle mie prestazioni e non vedo l’ora di correre in Olanda.”
Pauls Jonass: “Mi sentivo davvero bene per tutto il weekend e sono riuscito a guidare la prima manche. Colpire Jorge sul salto è stato davvero sfortunato e sono rimasto davvero deluso. Non l’ho visto arrivare dalla sua parte. E ‘stato un enorme/incidente e sono stato fortunato ad andarmene con solo un legamento allungato nel mio ginocchio. È stato quindi difficile nella seconda gara trovare il flusso nei primi giri. Ero un po ‘spaventato per il ginocchio perché non volevo prenderlo in un solco e peggiorarlo. Sono riuscito a fare pressione su Covington tutto il tempo e alla fine ha fatto un errore. Non è bello vedere un pilota cadere, ma ha commesso l’errore e fa parte delle corse, quindi potevo vincere. Secondo ancora e sei punti guadagnati in campionato, meglio della scorsa settimana e meglio di niente. Non è ancora finita: quattro manche da disputare e ancora alcuni punti “.
Thomas Kjer-Olsen: “Sono soddisfatto di come ho guidato in Turchia. In Gara1 ho faticato un po’ a prendere il ritmo, ma tra le due manche abbiamo fatto alcune modifiche nella giusta direzione, per cui sono riuscito ad essere molto più competitivo in Gara2. La moto era fantastica e potevo fare le linee che volevo. Sono riuscito a seguire Thomas [Covington] e Pauls [Jonass] per la maggior parte di gara, e quando Thomas ha sbagliato sono passato secondo. Sono felicissimo di questo podio e lo dedico al mio team Rockstar Energy Husqvarna e a tutte le persone che mi sostengono.”
ALTRI COMMENTI PILOTI
Tony Cairoli: ““E ’stato un weekend non buono, uno dei peggiori in questa stagione. Ho provato a fare bene e nella prima manche ho avuto un buon passo e sono arrivato bene al secondo posto, però ho preso un gran colpo alla mano destra, e ora dovrò farla controllare. La seconda manche è stata difficile e complicata dalla caduta al primo giro con Max Anstie: ho cercato di evitarlo e sono caduto. Ci è voluto tempo per ripartire e ho fatto quindicesimo. Un brutto fine settimana, ma siamo ancora in piedi dopo qualche infortunio recente e ora dobbiamo rimanere concentrati per altri due GP e poi per il Motocross delle Nazioni. L’ obiettivo è confermare il secondo posto in campionato perché Jeffrey è davanti a molti punti, e vincere nei GP se possibile”.
Jorge Prado: “È stato un GP un po’ strano ma torno a casa abbastanza felice. Siamo primi con 24 punti, con un GP in meno, e questo è positivo. Ho fatto una buona prima manche segnando anche il giro più veloce, e quindi è stato un po’ strano trovare difficoltà in gara due, forse perché la pista era cambiata. Devo imparare da queste esperienze, lavorare su questi alti e bassi. E alla fine posso considerarmi fortunato di non essermi fatto male in gara uno nella caduta con Pauls”.
Gautier Paulin: “Sono contento della mia prestazione in Gara2. Il weekend era iniziato con un piazzamento non buono nella manche di qualificazione, che mi ha complicato le cose poi. Le partenze sono fondamentali, e ho dovuto trarre il massimo dal mio cancelletto. In Gara1 ho faticato un po’ con le condizioni del tracciato e le mie traiettorie non erano il massimo. Per fortuna sono riuscito a partire bene dall’esterno in Gara2, mettendomi in una posizione molto migliore per il resto della manche. Il quarto posto di Gara2 e del GP è piuttosto positivo. La moto sta funzionando alla grande e spero che continueremo in questo modo nei prossimi due GP.”
Max Anstie: “Per me è stato un weekend da dimenticare. È stato un GP difficile, e le brutte partenze non mi hanno permesso di guidare come so fare. In Gara1 dopo una caduta nelle prime battute ho dovuto risalire dalla retrovie chiudendo undicesimo. Anche dopo la caduta la mia velocità era buona, ma avevo perso troppo tempo per entrare nei dieci. Poi in Gara2 sono di nuovo caduto al primo giro, danneggiando il freno anteriore. Ho fatto del mio meglio tagliando il traguardo sedicesimo, ma di sicuro non è il risultato a cui tutti puntiamo. Ora andiamo ad Assen e speriamo che là vada meglio.”
Todd Waters: In gara uno non riuscivo a trovare il flusso per attaccare la pista come volevo, mentre nella seconda manche ho avuto un ottimo inizio. Anche se i primi dieci minuti non erano proprio buoni, e dopo essere stato superato da alcuni piloti ho cercato di rilassarmi e guidare senza problemi, e in quel momento la mia velocità è migliorata. Sono rimasto con Strijbos per la maggior parte della gara e poi tutto è stato molto più facile! Nel complesso sono felice di partire con il buon feeling che ho avuto negli ultimi giri e speriamo di poterlo sfruttare per la prossima gara. Voglio ringraziare la squadra perché mi hanno dato una grande moto.
Jeremy Van Horebeek: “Devo essere contento per questo fine settimana, ero tra i primi cinque per tutto il weekend, sono contento di come ho corso, è stato difficile superare tutto quello che è successo quest’anno, ma credo che so, se sono al 100% in forma e in buona salute combatterò per il podio, mi sento come se fossi alle prese con le mie partenze questo fine settimana, ma ho avuto la fortuna di essere al suo interno, il che mi ha permesso di fare bene mi muovo nei primi due turni e sono arrivato quinto o quarto nel complesso, sono contento di questo, mi sono divertito questo fine settimana, mi godo ogni minuto che arriva in questo momento perché non si sa se queste prossime tre gare saranno l’ultimo della mia carriera o no. ”
Jeremy Seewer: “Ero al quinto posto nella seconda manche, e questo è l’obiettivo in questo momento, quindi devo essere soddisfatto. Se avessi superato Paulin nell’ultima gara sarei stato quarto o quinto assoluto, ma questo è la gara nella classe 450. Nel complesso, mi sento adattato molto bene perché questa pista non assomiglia a gran parte degli altri Gran Premi. Oggi ho iniziato bene e voglio finire tra i primi cinque nella classifica generale , ma ho altre due possibilità e non vedo l’ora di tornare sulla sabbia per il prossimo Gran Premio ad Assen perché sento che i miei migliori risultati sono stati nella sabbia “.
Tommy Searle: “È stato un fine settimana coerente. Penso che il mio riding sia stato un grande miglioramento rispetto ad alcune delle altre gare di quest’anno. Avevo il controllo e mi sono goduto la mia guida; Potevo cambiare le mie linee e mi sentivo a mio agio, ma non ho spinto abbastanza nel mezzo delle gare a causa del caldo. Ero forte alla fine di entrambe le gare, ma prima avevo bisogno di essere più aggressivo per passare il tipo di ragazzi che mi hanno superato nelle prime fasi. La pista è migliorata nel corso del weekend; ieri era piatta e veloce ma oggi è diventata più tecnica “.
Alessandro Lupino: “Ancora una volta ho avuto un buon feeling con la mia moto, ma il mio infortunio al ginocchio mi sta ancora preoccupando, non ho fatto più danni questo weekend ma ti viene in mente quando sai che la ferita è lì. Ho fatto buoni punti nuovamente in entrambe le manche e ora abbiamo due settimane per la prossima gara: il medico mi ha detto che l’infortunio guarirà con un riposo di dieci giorni, quindi sono ottimista sul fatto che posso tornare alla mia forma migliore per il finale GP ad Imola nella mia patria italiana. ”

MXGP
Jeffrey Herlings: “Absolutely a great weekend for me and that’s ‘three in a row’ of Qualification Heat and both moto wins, so I have to say a big thank you to the team for their great job: they have made a great sacrifice and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. I’m looking forward to Assen because we are really close to the championship now and I hope to finish it off. Like I said, it will be a dream come true to win it at my home GP. The chances of taking this title during a rider’s career are small anyway but to potentially do it in my home country would be amazing. We’ll just go out, do our best and try to stay healthy to get it done.”
Tim Gajser: It’s been a good weekend and I really enjoyed it. The track was nice and I was feeling good on it; together with the team we worked hard and found a good set-up – and I felt as one with the bike. The qualifying race was good yesterday, but in race one today I struggled to find good lines and ended up pushing too hard. The second race was much better, and I made some passes at the beginning and then tried to close the gap to Jeffrey. In the end I got really close to him, but I couldn’t make a pass. Still, second overall is a great result, especially as it’s the second time in a row – and I’m now looking forward to Assen.
Clément Desalle: “I’m really happy with my third podium in a row. I didn’t feel so good yesterday because this new track was so fast and we were on the limit but the track developed really well through the weekend; today it was really technical and I felt better every time I rode. The team has been working really hard on small details to get us ever closer to the win but it is not easy against Herlings. It was a good feeling for the team to get another holeshot award today after my teammate also got one in Switzerland.”
MX2
Thomas Covington: “I’ve been waiting for a long time for this overall victory. I feel like I should have had a few of these by now. Me and my trainer Joel Roelants have been grinding away each week and it’s finally good to get a win in the bag. Overall, it’s been a good GP for me. I got two holeshots here in Turkey and was able to find a good pace in both motos. After getting the win in moto one I tried to put in some solid laps in the second moto to wrap up the weekend with a double moto victory. That was my motivation for most of the moto, but a small mistake two minutes before the end had me settle for third in moto two. I’m really happy with my performance and looking forward to the next round in The Netherlands.”
Jonass: “I was feeling really good all weekend and managed to lead the first moto. Hitting Jorge on the jump was really unfortunate and I was really disappointed about that. I did not see it coming from his side. It was a huge crash and I was lucky to walk away with only a stretched ligament in my knee. It was then difficult in the second race to find the flow in the first laps. I was a bit scared for the knee because I did not want to catch it in a rut and make it worse. I managed to put pressure on Covington all the time and eventually he made a mistake. It is not nice to see a rider crash but he made the mistake and it’s part of racing, so I could win. Second again and a six point gain in the championship, better than last week and better than nothing. It’s still not over: four races to go and still some points.”
Thomas Kjer-Olsen: “I’m really happy about my ride in Turkey. In the opening moto I struggled a bit to get into the groove of things, but we made some good changes in the right direction so I could come back a lot stronger in moto two. The bike was great and I could just hit my lines perfectly. I could follow Thomas [Covington] and Pauls [Jonass] for most of the race and when Thomas made a mistake I got up to second. I’m just so happy with this podium and I’ve got to give it up to my Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team and all the people who support me.”
OTHER RIDERS
Cairoli: “It was a bad weekend, one of the worst until now. I had a slight injury from Switzerland and then twisted my other knee in Timed Practice on Saturday. I tried to do two good races but in the first moto I hit the bridge and I think I broke something in my hand. I was able to finish the moto with some pain and because the adrenaline was flowing but the second moto was difficult even before it started. I then crashed with [Max] Anstie again on the first lap; I tried to avoid him and lost the rear wheel and hit the ground hard. It took a long time to restart and start to pass people. A long time to focus and deal with my hand. 15th and a bad weekend but we are still on our feet after a lot of injuries lately and we have to stay concentrated for two more GPs and then the Motocross of Nations. The next goal is to confirm second in the championship because Jeffrey is in front by a lot of points and to win some GPs if it’s possible.”
Jorge Prado: “It was a bit of a strange GP but I am going home quite happy. We are leading by 24 points which is still good. I had a good first moto and was the fastest guy so it was a bit weird to go from that to struggling a lot in the second. I did what I could. I did my best. If I raced again now it would be the same so I need to learn from that second moto and when the track was challenging and hard for me. I was not feeling that great. It was up-and-down this weekend and I’m happy I was not hurt in the first moto. Assen is a good track for me and I haven’t finished off the podium there. For sure Pauls and I will both be pushing but we’ll be happy to be back in Belgium and I’ll be confident going there.”
Gautier Paulin: “I’m satisfied with my performance in moto two. The weekend started with me not getting a good position in the Qualifying Race and this made my life harder for the final motos. Starts are really crucial and I had to dig deep to make the best out of my starting position. In the first moto I struggled a bit with track conditions and my lines were not the best ones. Luckily I managed to get a good start coming from the outside in moto two, so placed myself in a much better position for the rest of the moto. Getting fourth in moto two for fourth overall at the GP is quite positive. My bike is working great at the moment and I hope we can continue with the same momentum at the next two GPs.”
Max Anstie: “For me it was a weekend to forget. It was a tough GP and not getting good starts in the final motos didn’t let me ride the way I know I can. In the opening moto I had to come through the pack after an early fall to finish 11th. My speed was good after the crash, but I had already missed a lot of time to make it inside the top-10. Then in moto two I crashed again in the opening lap and hit the front brake on my bike. I did my best to cross the line in 16th place but this is surely not the result we’re all looking for. It’s onto the next one now in Assen and I’m hoping for some better results there.”
Todd Waters: In race one I couldn’t find the flow to attack the track the way I wanted, while in the second moto I got a great start. Even though the first ten minutes were not really good, and after getting passed by a few riders I tried to relax and ride smoothly, and that’s when my speed improved. I stayed with Strijbos for most of the race and then everything was a lot easier! Overall I’m happy to leave with the good feeling I had on the last laps and hopefully we can build on that for the next race. I want to thank the team because they gave me a great bike.
Jeremy Van Horebeek: “I have to be happy with this weekend. I was inside the top five all weekend long, I am happy with how I rode. It has been tough to get through everything that has happened this year, but I believe that I still have it. I know that if I am 100% fit and healthy I will fight for the podium. I feel like I struggled with my starts this weekend, but was lucky to be on the inside, which allowed me to make some good moves in the first two turns, and I finished fifth or fourth overall. I am happy with that. I enjoyed this weekend, I am enjoying every minute I get to ride at the moment as there is no telling if these next three race will be the last of my career or not.”
Jeremy Seewer: “I was fifth in the second moto, and that is the goal at the moment, so I have to be happy with that. If I passed Paulin in the last race I would have been fourth or fifth overall, but this is what racing is like in the 450cc class. Overall, I feel I adapted really well because this track is nothing like we get at most of the other Grand Prixes. I had good starts today and I just want to finish inside the top-five overall, but I have two more chances and I look forward to getting back in the sand for the next Grand Prix in Assen as I feel my best results have been in the sand.”
Tommy Searle: “It was a consistent weekend. I think my riding was a big improvement from some of the other races this year. I was in control and enjoyed my riding; I could change my lines and felt comfortable but I didn’t push enough in the middle of the races because of the heat. I was strong at the end of both races, but I needed to be more aggressive earlier to pass the sort of guys who passed me early in the races. The track got better and better throughout the weekend; yesterday it was flat and fast but today it became more technical.”
Alessandro Lupino: “I again had a good feeling on my bike, but my knee injury is still troubling me. I didn’t do any more damage this weekend but it gets into your head when you know that the injury is there. Anyway, I made good points again in both motos and now we have two weeks to the next race. The doctor told me that the injury will heal with ten days’ rest, so I am optimistic that I can be back to my best form for the final GP at Imola in my Italian homeland.”
