Paulin segnala dubbi sul futuro per il recente modulo MXGP
Gautier Paulin ha ammesso i pensieri sul suo futuro nel Campionato Mondiale di Motocross FIM hanno avuto un ruolo nel ritardo della sua forma fisica. Il francese non è salito sul podio dagli undici GP di fila a Ottobiano in giugno e ha registrato i risultati complessivi di 7-8-7-11 nelle quattro gare successive. Il 28enne è sceso al sesto posto nella classifica MXGP dopo essere stato un contendente per le prime tre posizioni dietro alla coppia Jeffrey Herlings e Tony Cairoli.
“Il trasferimento parziale della stagione è difficile”, ha dichiarato in esclusiva. “Sono uno che mette molto nell’ allenamento e quando non sono libero nella mente può essere difficile. Quest’anno ci vorrà molto tempo e lo vedo sulla carta”.
Paulin è stato collegato ad un’altra squadra che si è allontanata dal suo attuale equipaggio Rockstar Energy IceOne Husqvarna con il satellite Wilvo Yamaha, una destinazione che si vocifera. #21 non può tornare alla factory HRC e con la sua ex squadra Monster Energy Kawasaki piena per il 2019, le sue opzioni sono limitate. Si diceva che il popolare ed elegante pilota potesse trasferirsi negli Stati Uniti o addirittura contemplare le corse in Australia il prossimo anno.
“È un piccolo paddock quindi ci sono voci tutto il giorno”, ha detto. “Da un lato sono felice che le persone con cui ho lavorato in passato abbiano aperto le porte. Sono molto chiaro e trasparente in quello che faccio. Sento che, come pilota, a volte sarebbe bello avere un po ‘più di confidenza con le persone. Sono davvero concentrato su quello che faccio ma quando guardo il giornale [risultati] non sono dove voglio essere “.
Il vincitore dei Grand Prix con quattro marchi (Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda e Husqvarna in ordine cronologico) è stato rapido ad accreditare la sua attuale squadra IceOne ma ha lasciato intendere che mancava un elemento del suo pacchetto competitivo, e la sua indecisione riguardo al suo prossimo impegno in carriera era dannosa.
“I piloti come Tony e Jeffrey sono” liberi “e possono guidare, essere forti e lottare sempre”, ha commentato. “Per vivere con loro è necessario essere al 100% in tutte le aree. In questo momento sono a 99. Adoro la mia moto e il mio equipaggio e mi sento in buona salute, ma ho altre cose di cui occuparmi e questo richiede energia “.
Nonostante le turbolenze delle ultime settimane, Paulin è fermamente convinto di avere la sete di riuscire in MXGP.
“Mi sto allenando duramente, lavorando sodo e la mia vita privata è fantastica e ho ancora la sensazione di voler davvero oltrepassare il cancello per correre”, ha insistito. “Alcune persone guidano e hanno bisogno di un po ‘di ego per andare veloci: non ne ho bisogno. So cosa posso fare e non ho bisogno di creare una storia su Instagram per dimostrare che sto lavorando sodo. Quando mi sento rigido sulla moto, l’unica cosa che vedo è “lo sfondo”. Ho ancora piena motivazione per MXGP. ”
La scorsa settimana il Team France ha annunciato la loro line-up per il Motocross delle Nazioni 2018 con il vincitore di una gara dell’AMA 450MX, Marvin Musquin, rimasto fuori dal trio che include l’imbattuto Paulin, Romain Febvre e Dylan Ferrandis. Nonostante i recenti travagli, Paulin è stato un talismano per il “tricolore” e si distingue come uno degli atleti di maggior successo nella storia dei 71 anni della competizione.
“L’obiettivo è sempre stato quello di rendere la squadra migliore e fino ad ora ne ho fatto parte”, ha dichiarato diversi giorni prima della pubblicazione della lista dei piloti per provare a vincere il trofeo di Chamberlain per la quinta volta. “È la loro scelta [la Federazione francese] ma quando ci sono tanti bravi piloti francesi voglio solo vedere la squadra migliore per il paese. Il mio record aiuta, ma mi piace essere umile nella vita. Sono parte di ciò che abbiamo raggiunto e questo è solo un dato di fatto. Lo hanno fatto con il mio aiuto e l’ho fatto con il loro aiuto e abbiamo costruito una relazione forte. Abbiamo raggiunto alcuni grandi obiettivi e sogni e vogliamo continuare. Essere negli Stati Uniti con la tabella rossa e difendere di nuovo il titolo è il grande sogno. L’abbiamo fatto quattro volte e una volta in Francia, ora abbiamo una nuova sfida. “

Paulin points to doubts over future for recent MXGP form
Gautier Paulin has admitted that thoughts over his future in the FIM Motocross World Championship has played a part in his form of late. The Frenchman has not walked the podium since round eleven in Ottobiano in June and has posted overall results of 7-8-7-11 in the four races since. The 28 year old has dropped to sixth in the MXGP standings after having been a firm contender for a top three slot behind the Red Bull KTMs of Jeffrey Herlings and Tony Cairoli.
“The transfer part of the season is a tough one,” he said exclusively. “I am someone who puts a lot into training and when I am not free in the mind it can be tough. It is taking a long time this year and I can see that on the paper.”
Paulin has been linked to another team switch away from his current Rockstar Energy IceOne Husqvarna crew with the satellite Wilvo Yamaha a rumoured destination. #21 cannot return to the factory HRC fold and with his former team Monster Energy Kawasaki also full for 2019 his options are limited. There was talk that the popular and stylish racer could move to the USA or even contemplate racing in Australia next year.
“It’s a small paddock so there are rumours all day long,” he said. “On one side I’m happy that people I have been working with in the past have opened the doors. I’m really clear and transparent in what I do. I feel that as a rider it would sometimes be nice to have a bit more confidence from people. I’m really focussed on what I do but when I see the paper [results] I am not where I want to be.”
The Grand Prix winner with four brands (Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda and Husqvarna in chronological order) was quick to credit his current IceOne squad but hinted that an element was missing from his competitive package, and his indecision regarding his next career commitment was detrimental. “Riders like Tony and Jeffrey are ‘free’ and they can ride on, be strong and go forever,” he commented. “To live with them you need to be 100% in all areas. Right now I’m at 99. I really love my bike and the crew and I feel healthy but I have other things to take care of and this takes energy.”
For all the turbulence of the last weeks Paulin is adamant that he has the thirst to succeed in MXGP. “I am training hard, working hard and my private life is awesome and I still have the feeling that I really want to get behind the gate to race,” he insisted. “Some people ride and need a bit of ego to go fast: I don’t need that. I know what I can do and I don’t need to make an Instagram story to show I am working hard. When I feel stiff on the bike then the only thing I see is ‘the background’. I still have full motivation for MXGP.”
Last week Team France controversially announced their line-up for the 2018 Motocross of Nations with AMA 450MX race winner Marvin Musquin left out of the trio that includes the undefeated Paulin, Romain Febvre and Dylan Ferrandis. Despite his recent travails Paulin has been something of a talisman for the ‘tricolor’ and stands as one of the most successful athletes in the 71 year history of the competition. “The goal has always been the to make the best team and up until now I have been part of that,” he offered several days before publication of the rider list to try and win the Chamberlain trophy for the fifth time. “It’s their choice [the French Federation] but when there are so many good French riders I just want to see the best team for the country. My record helps but I like to be humble in life. I’m part of what we have achieved and that is just a fact. They did it with my help and I did it with their help and we’ve been building a strong relationship. We have achieved some big goals and dreams and we want to continue. Being in the USA with the red plate and defending the title again is the big dream. We’ve done it four times and once in France, now we have a new challenge.”
