GP of Asia – Semarang – Rider Comments
GP of Asia nel tracciato tutto nuovo e anche spettacolare di Semarang, un altro weekend di gare in Indonesia, le lotte si sono concluse, e che lotte, nulla di scontato sul podio specialmente con il vincitore che dimostra quanto gli appartenga il titolo 2018, ma mancano ancora un pò di gare e HErlings è uno imprevedibile, ovviamente crediamo sia maturato e che la sbavatura dell’infortunio alla clavicola possa succedere a chiunque, tanto che anche Cairoli si è infortunato al pollice e non è di certo una cosa semplice una sublussazione al pollice, notevole la sua tenacia nel voler continuare a tener duro, specialmente nel tracciato di Semarang dove i grandi salti erano un enorme disturbo, porta a casa punti preziosi e non si da vinto! Un ottimo Gajser che con due manche consistenti sale al 2° posto del podio e in 4° nel campionato, ritorna a podio anche Desalle, anche lui due belle manche e un 3° assoluto con il suo 3° posto saldamente conquistato!! Nella MX2 un grandissimo Jorge Prado che rimette la pala al centro riportando il punteggio a pari con il compagno Jonass, 1° e 2° i due piloti, terzo e ancora sul podio Kalvin Vlaanderen!

RIDERS MXGP PODIO
Jeffrey Herlings: “Non so se avremmo potuto sognare questi risultati. Siamo venuti in Indonesia totalmente impreparati, ma per andare 2-1 la settimana scorsa e poi ancora meglio oggi con la vittoria della Qualification Heat ed entrambe le manche è assolutamente fantastico. Non avremmo potuto desiderare di meglio. Questo non è il “normale” Jeffrey Herling, ma lasciare l’Indonesia con due vittorie in GP è una benedizione. La Red Bull KTM ha svolto un lavoro incredibile e mi è sempre piaciuto passare tutto questo tempo con loro. Il team mi ha dato una moto perfetta e non avrei vinto senza di loro. Ora aspetto con impazienza Loket tra due settimane. Non è la mia pista preferita, ma l’obiettivo sarà di fare quanti più punti possibile. ”
Tim Gajser: È bello essere di nuovo sul podio. Oggi mi sentivo abbastanza bene sulla moto. La prima gara è stata sorprendente: la velocità era buona e sono riuscito a rimanere in testa per molti giri. Alla fine sono stato passato da Jeffrey ma sono stato in grado di stare con lui e ho cercato di tornare al primo posto, ma era troppo tardi. La mia partenza per la seconda gara non è stata la migliore, ma ho attraversato il gruppo e fatto un paio di passaggi e spingendo verso la parte anteriore anche io. Ho fatto un paio di errori nella parte centrale della gara e ho perso il contatto con Jeffrey e Clement. Il terzo posto è stato sufficiente per ottenere il secondo posto, quindi sono felice di lasciare l’Indonesia con un secondo posto. Vorrei ringraziare la squadra per il loro duro lavoro e non vedo l’ora che arrivi il prossimo round a Loket!
Clement Desalle: “È davvero bello essere di nuovo sul podio dopo essere stato così tante volte quarto o quinto nei recenti GP, in particolare perché a volte avevo segnato gli stessi punti del terzo posto sul podio! Ho avuto due manche consistenti oggi dopo due buone partenze. Nella prima gara ho perso diverse posizioni quando sono andato largo alla terza curva, ma ho potuto recuperare fino alla quarta; poi ho preso il comando prima della seconda curva nella seconda manche per finire secondo dopo un giro forte. La mia velocità era molto migliore di ieri; abbiamo lavorato su alcuni punti ieri sera e sono contento del mio lavoro soprattutto nella seconda manche. Ora l’obiettivo è segnare più podi nelle prossime settimane. Ma prima sarò così felice di rivedere la mia famiglia dopo quasi due settimane. ”
RIDERS MX2 PODIO
Jorge Prado: “Ho passato un ottimo weekend. La pista subito mi è sembrata molto bella, anche se al sabato c’era un po’ di fango. Mi sono davvero divertito a guidare su questa pista e sono felicissimo di questa nuova vittoria che mi ha portato in testa al campionato a pari punti con Pauls. E’ stata una lunga rimonta e ora dobbiamo continuare così”.
Pauls Jonass: “Questo GP è stato molto meglio dell’ultimo, quindi non posso essere troppo deluso perché ho fatto del mio meglio e ho avuto un po ‘di sfortuna all’inizio della seconda manche. La velocità e la forma fisica erano lì come il mio feeling in pista. Non vedo davvero l’ora di tornare in Europa. È stata una settimana lunga e voglio tornare ad un normale programma di allenamento e concentrarmi sul fare di nuovo qualche punto in più nel campionato e recuperare di nuovo il gap “.
Calvin Vlaanderen: E ‘stata una grande giornata per me e per la squadra, con la seconda posizione di Tim e la mia terza. Sono davvero contento di come è andata la giornata. Ho davvero combattuto duramente per tornare al quinto posto dopo essere caduto alla terza curva. Penso che sia stato un grande risultato dato il fatto che ho dovuto affrontare il gruppo. Sono partito alla seconda gara ed ero dietro a Jorge, ma poi sono stato passato da Covington. Abbiamo avuto un po ‘di battaglia e mi sono bloccato dietro di lui, cercando di seguire le sue linee e vedere dove avrei potuto fare il passaggio – e poi l’ho fatto a due giri dalla fine. Sono stato davvero contento di come era la mia guida oggi e della mia forma fisica; il team ha fatto un ottimo lavoro: la moto è stata eccezionale, grazie a tutti per il supporto.
ALTRI COMMENTI PILOTI
Cairoli: “Ero molto preoccupato questa settimana perché avevo molto dolore alla mano e fino a venerdì faticavo a guidare uno scooter! Sapevo che sarebbe stato difficile correre, specialmente in questa pista così dura con atterraggi molto lunghi. Sabato ho provato a guidare senza antidolorifici e in qualifica ho fatto quinto ma la mano alla fine si è gonfiata ancora. Per domenica abbiamo deciso di fare un’iniezione e il dolore è diminuito ma solo per 15-20 minuti. La prima manche è stata buona con il terzo posto. Non mi aspettavo di poter stare nei cinque con questo problema. È stata una sorpresa. Ho fatto una ottima partenza nella seconda manche ma alla prima curva sono stato spinto un po’ fuori da Jeffrey. A metà manche ho fatto un errore su un salto, sono arrivato corto e ho sentito una fitta al pollice e ho perso diverse posizioni. Poi sono risalito fino al quarto posto. Abbiamo perso alcuni punti per il campionato, ma ci sono ancora molti GP “.
Coldenhoff: “Sabato non mi sentivo bene in pista e ho avuto una brutta partenza nella prima manche di domenica; è stato davvero difficile superare. Alla fine avrei dovuto essere ottavo ma sono stato penalizzato per non aver rispettato le bandiere gialle. Normalmente sono la prima persona a rallentare quando vedo le bandiere, ma questa volta non sono riuscito a vederle in tempo. Ci siamo lamentati dopo la manche ma non si poteva fare nulla. Il 18° è stato davvero deludente. Ho fatto alcuni piccoli errori nella seconda manche ma ero molto indietro. Ho dato tutto ciò che avevo ma penso che non fosse la mia moto. Non so davvero cosa sia successo, ma lo analizzeremo e lavoreremo su di esso. Dobbiamo migliorare e dimenticare questo. Non sono felice d’andare a casa, ma dall’altra parte sono felice di tornare a casa! Voglio ri-raggruppare, lavorare sodo e tornare a spingere per Loket. ”
Tommy Searle: “Sono contento di oggi! Sapevo di poter essere veloce anche se non avevo una buona scelta e sapevo che sarebbe stata una giornata difficile, ma sono rimasto positivo e ho spinto il gruppo in entrambe le gare per il quinto posto. Sono stato molto veloce nella prima gara, segnando il terzo giro più veloce della gara all’ultimo giro! Non è stato facile per molti piloti passare in entrambe le gare, ma sia la moto che la mia forma fisica sono state ottime. ”
Alessandro Lupino: “E ‘stato un buon GP e sono davvero contento dei risultati in queste due gare. È un viaggio costoso, e la squadra ha fatto di tutto per darmi la possibilità di correre qui. Abbiamo raggiunto il nostro obiettivo in quanto ho segnato punti buoni in ogni manche, anche se sentivo di non essere abbastanza veloce nella prima gara. Mi è davvero piaciuto andare in moto; abbiamo lavorato molto per ridurre il divario rispetto alle moto ufficiali e ci stiamo avvicinando sempre di più. ”
Todd Waters: è stata un’altra giornata difficile per me perché purtroppo la mia salute non migliorava durante la notte. Ho fatto del mio meglio, ma evidentemente mi mancava la forza, e non ero ancora in cima alla mia partita dopo aver fatto un debutto in ritardo nella stagione e ferito la mia clavicola in Lettonia. Ora torniamo in Europa e avremo qualche giorno per riprenderci e poi prepararci per il prossimo round, dove spero di poter migliorare il mio gioco.
Thomas Covington: “Sentivo di avere una buona velocità in questo weekend, e ho lottato per il podio finale fino agli ultimi giri di Gara2. In Gara1 ero partito bene, ma dopo poche curve Olsen mi è caduto davanti e non ho potuto evitarlo. Dopo essermi rialzato ho attaccato tagliando il traguardo in settima posizione. Nella seconda manche le cose sono andate meglio e mi sono rapidamente portato in seconda posizione. Dopo aver spinto un po’ troppo per recuperare dalla caduta in Gara1 ho sentito che stavo esaurendo le energie negli ultimi giri, per cui mi sono accontentato del terzo posto al traguardo. Sono contento del quinto posto finale dopo quello che mi è successo in Gara1, e adesso non vedo l’ora di tornare in Europa.”
Thomas Kjer-Olsen: “È stato un weekend di alti e bassi, ma sono soddisfatto della mia prestazione in Gara2. Dopo essere partito bene nella prima manche sono caduto all’atterraggio da un salto, e questo ha reso tutto più difficile. Nella caduta ho danneggiato la tubazione del freno anteriore, per cui ho corso il resto della manche senza freno anteriore. Le cose sono andate meglio nella seconda manche. Mi sono trovato quasi subito in questa posizione, e ho corso al mio passo chiudendo quarto. Ho dato il massimo e se non fosse stato per la caduta in Gara1, il mio risultato finale sarebbe stato molto migliore.”
Max Anstie: “Sono soddisfatto della mia seconda manche. Le condizioni erano molto scivolose, ed era facile commettere errori su questa pista. In Gara1 ho faticato a trovare un buon passo gara, ma tra le due manche abbiamo sistemato la moto. Non ringrazierò mai abbastanza il mio team e soprattutto i meccanici che lavorano duramente in questi GP oltreoceano. In Gara2 mi sentivo bene, e sono riuscito a spingere fino alla sesta posizione finale, che valeva la sesta di giornata. È stata una buona conclusione di questo viaggio in Indonesia, e ora non vedo l’ora di tornare in Europa.”
Gautier Paulin: “Tutto ha funzionato piuttosto bene per me in questo weekend, ma la caduta in Gara2 non mi ha permesso di ottenere i risultati che mi aspettavo. In Gara1 ho fatto una buona partenza e spinto molto per il resto della manche. Grazie a un passo gara costante, ho concluso in quinta piazza, il che è stato positivo in vista della seconda manche. Qui sono ancora partito bene, e dopo qualche errorino nei primi giri stavo correndo in quinta posizione, quando dopo un lungo salto l’anteriore mi è scappato via e sono caduto a terra. Mi sono rialzato e sono ripartito, facendo il meglio che potevo. Per fortuna la caduta mi ha lasciato solo un po’ di dolore muscolare, senza altri problemi. L’ottavo posto finale non è quello che speravamo, ma sono fiducioso che potremo tornare forti nelle prossime tappe europee.”
Jeremy Van Horebeek: “E ‘stato un buon weekend, è passato molto tempo da quando mi sono sentito così bene in moto, non è una strada facile quando stiamo guidando ad un livello così alto. E’ passato molto tempo da quando ero sesto ma voglio ancora di più. Mi sono sentito come se avessi usato tutte le mie energie nella prima gara, ma sono contento di aver ottenuto un buon risultato questo weekend. Nell’ultima gara ho pensato che la pista fosse un po ‘approssimativa e volevo solo andare a casa sano, ora abbiamo due settimane per continuare a costruire, e speriamo che i buoni risultati tornino presto “.
Jeremy Seewer: “E ‘stato un weekend positivo, ero terzo ieri, ma ho avuto un grande incidente nella prima gara quando un pilota si è imbattuto nel grande triplo. Fortunatamente ho salvato l’atterraggio, ma poi ho colpito una pietra molto forte e distrutto la mia ruota anteriore. Non ero ferito, ma la mia gara era finita, ero davvero felice di tornare alla seconda manche con una discreta velocità, ero al quarto posto in gara ma ho avuto uno sciocco incidente e sono arrivato quinto, sono arrabbiato con me stesso per quello, ma sono contento di aver ancora finito quinto e incolume dopo quel pessimo incidente con la prima moto. ”
Romain Febvre: “Non è stato un buon weekend per me, sono caduto nella prima gara e mi si è rotto il manubrio in due pezzi, quindi non ho potuto finire, è stato frustrante, poi nella seconda gara ho avuto una gara decente ma sono caduto ed è stato difficile…Sono distrutto, ma ho continuato ad andare e sono tornato al dodicesimo. Fa schifo per il campionato, ma era solo uno di quei weekend no. ”

MXGP
Herlings: “I don’t think we could have dreamt of these results. We came to Indonesia totally unprepared but to go 2-1 last week and then even better today – with the Qualification Heat and both motos – is absolutely awesome. We couldn’t have wished for anything better. This is not the ‘normal’ Jeffrey Herling yet but to leave Indonesia with two GP wins is a blessing. Red Bull KTM have done such an incredible job and I loved spending all this time with them. The team gave me a perfect bike and I would not be winning without them. I’m now looking forward to Loket in two weeks time. It is not my favourite track but the goal will be as many points as possible.”
Tim Gajser: It feels good to be on the podium again. Today I felt quite good on the bike. The first race was amazing: the speed was good and I managed to stay in the lead for many laps. In the end I was passed by Jeffrey but I was able to stay with him and tried to get back to first place, but it was too late. My start to the second race was not the best, but came through the pack and made a couple of passes and pushing towards the front, too. I made a couple of mistakes in the central part of the race and lost touch with Jeffrey and Clement. Third place was enough to get second overall, so I’m happy to leave Indonesia with a second-place finish. I would like to thank the team for their hard work and look forward to the next round at Loket!
Clement Desalle: “It feels so good to be back on the podium after being so many times fourth or fifth in recent GPs, particularly as sometimes I had scored the same points as the third place on the podium! I had two consistent motos today after two good starts. In the first race I lost several positions when I went wide at the third corner, but I could recover to fourth at the finish; then I took the lead before the second corner in the second moto to finish second after a strong ride. My speed was much better than yesterday; we worked on some points last night and I’m happy with my work especially in the second moto. Now the goal is to score more podiums in the coming weeks. But first I will be so happy to see my family again after nearly two weeks away.”
MX2
Prado: “I had a great weekend. The track looked really good when we arrived on Friday and I thought this would be a decent place for me, even if the dirt is not the best for my riding style. I really enjoyed it and I’m happy with the overall win and to level with Pauls on points; I could not wish for a better weekend.”
Jonass: “This GP was much better than the last so I cannot be too disappointed as I tried my best and just had some bad luck at the beginning of the second moto. The speed and the fitness was there as was my feeling on the track. I’m really looking forward to get back to Europe. It has been a long week and I want to get back to a normal training programme and focus on making some more points again in the championship and to get that gap again.”
Calvin Vlaanderen: It was a great day for me and the team, with Tim’s second position and my third. I’m really happy with how the day went. I really fought hard to get back to fifth place after crashing at turn three. I think it was a great result given the fact that I had to come through the pack. I had a great start to the second race and was behind Jorge, but then I was passed by Covington. We had a bit of a battle and I stuck behind him, trying to follow his lines and see where I could make the pass – and then I did it with two laps to go. I was really happy with how my riding was today and my fitness; the team did a great job: the bike was great so thanks to everyone for the support.
OTHER RIDERS
Cairoli: “I was very worried this week because I had a lot of pain and until Friday I could barely ride around on a scooter! I tried on Wednesday and it was so painful so I knew it would be hard to race, especially at this hard-pack track that is so tough on the landings. On Saturday it was almost impossible to ride without painkillers and for Sunday we decided to have an injection. The pain slowed a little bit but only for 15-20 minutes. The first moto was good actually; third place and I didn’t expect that I could be top five with this problem. It was a surprise. I had a good start in the second moto but was pushed a little bit wide by Jeffrey on the first corner and we both lost the lead as we were 1-2. I made another mistake on the jump, came short and hurt the thumb again so I dropped back to ninth and I knew I needed to regroup. In the end fourth was good and just one point from the podium. We know we have lost some points for the championship but there are still a lot of GPs to come.”
Coldenhoff: “I didn’t feel that great on the track on Saturday and had a bad start in the first moto on Sunday; it was really hard to come through and not easy to pass. In the end I should have been eighth but was penalised for not respecting the yellow flags. Normally I’m the first person to slow when I see the flags but this time I really could not see them in time. We complained after the moto but nothing could be done. 18th was really disappointing. I made some small mistakes in the second moto but was very far back. I gave everything I had but I think it wasn’t my moto. I don’t really know what happened but we’ll analyse it and work on it. We need to improve and forget this one. I’m not happy going home but on the other side I am happy to be going home! I want to re-group, work hard and come back swinging in Loket.”
Thomas Covington: “I felt I had good speed this weekend and I took the battle for the overall podium down to the last laps in moto two. I got off to a good start in the opening race but a few corners later Olsen crashed right in front of me and I had nowhere to go. Picking myself up I pushed hard to cross the line in seventh place. Things were better in moto two and I quickly managed to put myself in second place. Pushing a bit too much in moto one following the crash I felt I was running out of energy at the last few laps of moto two, so I had to settle for third at the finish line. I am happy with fifth overall following what happened in moto one and I’m looking forward to returning to Europe now.”
Thomas Kjer-Olsen: “It was an up and down weekend for us, but I am happy with my performance in the second moto. Getting a good start in the opening moto I ended up crashing after the landing of a jump and this made it all harder for me. As a result of the crash the front brake line was damaged, so I had to race the rest of the moto without a front brake. Things were better in the second moto. I quickly found myself in fourth position and then did my own race to finish in that same place. I tried my best this weekend and if it wasn’t for the crash in moto one my overall result could have been a lot better.”
Max Anstie: “I’m quite pleased with my second moto. Conditions were slick and slippery and it was easy to make mistakes on this track. In moto one I struggled to get a good race pace but during the break we made some good improvements on the bike. I can’t thank enough my team and especially our mechanics who work hard in these overseas GPs. I felt good in the second moto and I managed to push for sixth at the line and sixth overall at the GP. It was a good way to end our trip to Indonesia and now I’m looking forward to going back to Europe.”
Gautier Paulin: “Everything was working quite well for me this weekend but a crash in moto two did not let me get the results I expected. In moto one I had a good start and pushed hard for the rest of the race. Putting in some consistent lap times I finished moto one in fifth place and that was positive going into moto two. I got another good start in moto two and after a few small mistakes in the opening laps I was racing in fifth position. After a big jump the front washed out and I hit the ground. I got up and started again, doing the best I could. Luckily the crash only caused some muscle pain and we avoided any injury. Getting eighth overall is not what we hoped for, but I am confident we can come back stronger as the series heads back to Europe now.”
Jeremy Van Horebeek: “It was a good weekend. It’s been a long time since I felt this good on the bike. It’s not an easy road back when we are riding at such a high level. It’s been a long time since I was sixth, but I still want more. I felt like I used all my energy in the first race, but I am happy to have achieved one good result this weekend. In the last race I thought the track was a little sketchy and I just wanted to go home safe. Now we have two weeks to keep building, and hopefully the good results will be back soon.”
Jeremy Seewer: “It was a positive weekend. I was third yesterday but I had a big crash in the first race when a rider came across on a big triple. Luckily I saved it, but then I hit a wall really hard and destroyed my bike. I was not hurt, but my race was over. I was really happy to come back in the second moto with some decent speed. I was fourth all of the race but had one silly crash and finished fifth, and I am angry at myself for that, but I am happy to have still finished fifth and unhurt after that really crazy first moto crash.”
Romain Febvre: “Not a good weekend for me. I crashed in the first race and broke my handlebars into two pieces so I could not finish. That was frustrating, and then in the second race I had a decent race but I fell and was run over. I was destroyed, but I kept going and got back to twelve. It sucks for the championship, but it was just one of those weekends.”
Tommy Searle: “I’m happy with today! I knew I could be fast even though I didn’t have a good gate pick and I knew it would be a hard day but I stayed positive and pushed through the pack in both races for fifth overall. I was very fast in the first race, posting the third fastest lap of the race on the very last lap! It wasn’t easy with many riders to pass in both races but both the bike and my fitness felt great.”
Alessandro Lupino: “It was a good GP and I’m really happy with the results in those two races. It’s an expensive trip, and the team did everything to give me the possibility to race here. We reached our goal as I scored good points in every motos, even if I felt I was not quite fast enough in the first race. I’m really enjoyed riding the bike; we have worked a lot to reduce the gap to the factory bikes and we are coming closer and closer.”
Todd Waters: It was another difficult day for me as unfortunately my health did not improve during the night. I did all my best out there but I was obviously lacking strength, and I was not already on top of my game after making a late season debut and injuring my collarbone in Latvia. We are now going back to Europe and we’ll have a few days to recover and then get ready for the next round, where hopefully I will be able to step up my game.
