GP della Gran Bretagna – Matterley Basin – Rider Comments
GP di Inghilterra nel tracciato di Matterley Basin, un altro weekend di gare, le lotte si sono concluse e in molti hanno lansiato polemiche sulle azioni di gara tra Cairoli ed Herlings, forse qualche contatto di troppo, sicuramente la prospettiva dal televisore o video non sono ottimali per capire come è andata realmente, non dimentichiamoci però che i contatti ravvicinati sono parte di questo sport, anche solo per destabilizzare l’avversario e poi si sà, si forza un pò di più e ne scaturisce il contatto vero e proprio, le parti si schierano, sicuramente è una lotta dura per il vertice, noi pensiamo sia una situazione di gara che ci sta, a volte si danno e a volte si prendono, un pò come la boxe, ma qui in Inghilterra Herlings è stato ancora una volta superbo, guidando in maniera sicura e veloce, attacchi decisivi, nella MX2 Prado sempre secondo e Jonass che ritorna a primeggiare, vince gara 1 e gara 2, sul podio anche Vlaanderen!

RIDERS MXGP PODIO
Jeffrey Herlings: “KTM è stata una famiglia per me e raggiungere 100 podi con un marchio non è qualcosa che accade spesso. 74 vittorie nei GP sono semplicemente incredibili quindi un grande grazie a tutti in KTM e in particolare a Pit Beirer per aver creduto in me quasi dieci anni fa e per portarmi dove sono ora. Andremo in Francia con lo stesso obiettivo di fare il podio. Se riusciamo anche a vincere, se non riusciamo o addirittura nemmeno un podio, faremo del nostro meglio e vedere come andrà a finire. La partenza è molto importante a St Jean ed è difficile superare. Vedremo come vanno le cose. ”
Tonio Cairoli: “E ‘stato un fine settimana positivo e uno in cui ho trovato le buone partenze che mancavano in Germania e il ritmo di gara eccellente, anche se non era abbastanza per vincere. Ho avuto una bella sensazione in prova su una pista che era ben preparata e piena di linee, e nella gara di qualifica sono riuscito a guidare come volevo e vincere. Oggi in entrambe le manche sono riuscito a guidare bene; sfortunatamente il contatto con Jeffrey in gara uno è stato inaspettato, ma a volte il motocross è così. In gara 2 ho cercato di scappare ma alla fine mi ha beccato e superato, Jeffrey è stato molto bravo, era molto veloce. È un peccato guidare 25 dei 28 giri senza vincere il Gran Premio ma dobbiamo anche dire che il ritmo rispetto agli altri è molto più alto e siamo migliorati molto rispetto allo scorso anno,abbiamo raccolto l’ennesima doppietta KTM. Non ci arrenderemo e continueremo ad attaccare la prossima settimana in Francia “.
Romain Febvre: “E ‘stato un weekend davvero difficile, ma sono contento di essere tornato sul podio, mi sono infortunato in Lettonia dopo essermi toccato con un altro pilota, ma ero ancora sul podio in Germania ma sono caduto di nuovo La mia settimana non è stata buona, ho visto molti dottori e mi hanno suggerito di prendermi quattro settimane, ma volevo almeno provare a segnare qualche punto e ora sono sul podio. Non posso ringraziare tutti e chi mi supporta abbastanza, specialmente i ragazzi di Yamaha, il fisioterapista e tutti, senza di loro probabilmente non sarei stato in grado di gareggiare e di salire sul podio. ”
RIDERS MX2 PODIO
Jonass: “Ho lottato con la pista sabato, ma l’ho trasformata per oggi. Ho avuto la possibilità di superare Jorge nella prima manche dopo aver avuto l’holeshot; e questo è stato davvero buono perché una volta che Jorge ha un ritmo, può essere difficile sorpassarlo. Ero contento di questo e poi ho controllato la gara, ma Jorge non ha esagerato. Nella seconda manche ho fatto un paio di errori all’inizio ma poi ho trovato le mie linee e il flusso abbastanza velocemente. Sono rimasto deluso dai miei risultati in Germania, quindi è stato molto meglio e quando ho visto Jorge scappare di nuovo nella seconda manche ho pensato “non ancora …” Penso che la seconda gara sia stata una delle migliori della stagione per me. Ho provato a fare come ‘Jeffrey’! Ci siamo allenati insieme la scorsa settimana in Francia e ci siamo motivati un po ‘”.
Prado: “La gara è andata molto bene. Questo fine settimana Pauls stava spingendo molto forte ed eravamo così avanti rispetto alla terza posizione nella prima manche, quindi puoi immaginare quanto stessimo andando in ogni singolo giro. Sono felice perché ho fatto del mio meglio; questo weekend Pauls è stato il più veloce e forse il prossimo fine settimana lo sarò io. Siamo molto simili in questo momento e piccoli dettagli possono fare la differenza. Non ho mai avuto un podio qui, quindi sono contento anche di questo. Penso che le moto e il team che abbiamo siano i migliori “.
Calvin Vlaanderen: È stato un podio molto combattuto, questo è certo. Non ho avuto il miglior avvio in gara uno e ho dovuto falciare un po ‘il gruppo. Il quarto è stato un buon risultato; Sono stato un po ‘fortunato con il ritiro di Olsen, ma sono le gare. Nella seconda manche ero in pompa e pronto per la battaglia: sono partito molto bene ma sono stato spinto alla prima curva. Ho fatto alcuni errori all’inizio, ma poi sono entrato in un solco e ho cercato di seguire i ragazzi davanti a me. Sono rimasto calmo e concentrato perché sapevo che sarebbe stata una gara lunga, ed è stato fantastico finire terzo. Essere sul podio qui in Inghilterra è fantastico: fa bene a me stesso, alla squadra e a tutti quelli che mi circondano. Stiamo lavorando sodo e lo stiamo facendo, è quello che dobbiamo fare.
ALTRI COMMENTI PILOTI
Glenn Coldenhoff: “Abbiamo faticato con il set-up di sabato ma abbiamo apportato alcune modifiche e la moto ha funzionato alla grande; prendere 3° e fare un 1-2-3 per KTM è stato davvero bello. Mi sentivo motivato a fare bene domenica ma avevano davvero irrigato tanto la pista per la prima manche ed è stato difficile al primo giro. Nel momento in cui mi sono sistemato, ero sesto e tutti avevano gli stessi tempi sul giro. Non sono partito bene nella seconda manche, ma ho fatto un buon primo giro. Ero solo un po ‘fuori dal ritmo dei ragazzi davanti a me. Dopo un buon sabato mi aspettavo un po ‘di più da oggi, ma d’altra parte ho avuto due risultati e punti solidi “.
Thomas Covington: “Le cose hanno funzionato piuttosto bene nel weekend, e mi sono divertito qui in Inghilterra. In Gara1 sono partito discretamente e mi sono messo in una buona posizione. Ho lottato con Thomas [Kjer-Olsen] e sono contento di aver conquistato il terzo posto. In Gara2 sono partito meno bene e ho dovuto lottare dalle retrovie. Una piccola caduta a metà manche ha complicato ulteriormente le cose, così mi sono dovuto accontentare del nono posto. Finale. Ma nel complesso è stato un GP positivo, e sono soddisfatto dei miglioramenti rispetto all’ultima volta.”
Thomas Kjer-Olsen: “Ho fatto vedere di avere la velocità per lottare per il podio, e in entrambe le manche ho fatto delle belle battaglie. Mi sentivo a postissimo sulla moto, purtroppo una banale noia tecnica non mi ha consentito di concludere in nessuna manche. È ovviamente una delusione non aver raccolto punti qui in Inghilterra, ma è andata così. Nel complesso il mio passo gara negli ultimi GP è stato sempre buono, e da ora in avanti sta a me scendere in campo e lottare per i risultati a cui aspiriamo.”
Max Anstie: “Su questa pista ho dei ricordi fantastici, e volevo davvero dare il massimo davanti ai miei tifosi. La velocità c’era, ma sfortunatamente non sono riuscito a partire bene in nessuna delle due manche. Rimontanto da dietro ho concluso tredicesimo in Gara1 e dodicesimo in Gara2, per il decimo posto finale. Continueremo a lavorare per migliorarci nei prossimi GP.”
Gautier Paulin: “Weekend difficile. Dopo il sesto posto nella manche di qualificazione pensavo di far bene nelle due manche della domenica. In Gara1 sono partito bene, ma una caduta poche curve dopo ha rovinato tutto. In Gara2 non sono partito bene, poi ho commesso alcuni errori che mi hanno costretto ad accontentarmi del quindicesimo posto al traguardo. Cercheremo di metterci questo weekend alle spalle e di guardare avanti. Il prossimo è il mio GP di casa e darò il massimo per far bene davanti ai miei tifosi.”
Jeremy Seewer: “Ho avuto un po ‘di sfortuna questo weekend con i sassi, mi sono aperto in due il viso a causa di una sassata, una volta ieri e una volta oggi. Mi sentivo come se avessi la velocità, fisso al sesto posto, potevo vedere tutti quei ragazzi di fronte a me sono stato colpito da un grosso sasso in faccia, la pelle si è aperta e ha iniziato a sanguinare alla grande, ma per fortuna ho potuto concludere la moto al dodicesimo. Ora sono duramente combattuto, nella seconda gara, di nuovo ho potuto vedere il sesto posto ma è molto difficile passare, stiamo andando tutti alla stessa velocità ed è stata una battaglia serrata. Nel complesso, è stato un altro weekend solido con un po ‘di sfortuna, ma ci sono ancora aspetti positivi da portare via e non vedo l’ora di correre in Francia il prossimo fine settimana a Saint Jean, è una delle mie piste preferite. ”
Shaun Simpson: “Sono un po ‘deluso dalla prima manche di oggi, solo perché non mi sentivo al meglio , mi sono riorganizzato tra le manche e ho apportato una piccola modifica alla moto e sono riuscito a uscire nella seconda gara con molta più fiducia e assomigliava molto al mio vecchio io. Per riassumere il fine settimana, è stato un giorno diviso a metà e sono solo felice di essere fuori sano e salvo. Due durissime manche finite. Non vedo l’ora di tornare il prossimo fine settimana in Francia, è davvero difficile tornare a metà stagione, anche se ho appena saltato due GP, sarà difficile tornare a correre, ma penso che tornerò tra i primi dieci nelle prossime settimane e non vedo davvero l’ora. ”
Clement Desalle: “Sono frustrato per non perdere un altro podio! Nella prima gara ho finito quarto; quello era il mio posto perché non ho trovato alcuna soluzione in alcune sezioni della pista per andare più veloce e mantenere il passo con i ragazzi di fronte a me. La mia seconda partenza è stata migliore; Sono stato il secondo per un po ‘finché Herlings non mi ha passato. È sempre difficile tenerlo dietro, ma sono rimasto terzo e ho continuato a concentrarmi sulle mie linee. Ma poi sono caduto quando la mia ruota anteriore è scivolata in una curva e ho perso due posizioni. Non volevo arrendermi e tornai dietro a Febvre e Gajser; Ho passato Gajser ma ho perso tempo per cercare di superare Febvre e ottenere il podio. ”
Tommy Searle: “Sono felice. È bello ottenere un bel risultato dopo tutte le ferite che ho avuto in questa stagione. Ora mi sento un po ‘più me stesso. Ottengo i migliori risultati in entrambe le gare e sono stato sempre tra i primi cinque nelle sessioni di prove questo fine settimana. Le mie partenze avrebbero potuto essere migliori, altrimenti penso che avrei potuto essere ancora migliore ma nel complesso è stato un weekend positivo. Sono di nuovo più fiducioso e sento che c’è molto altro da fare adesso. La mia stagione è iniziata davvero adesso; Ho lavorato duramente per arrivare da così lontano e ora è il momento di mostrare quello che sono in grado di raggiungere. ”
Tim Gajser: la prima manche è stata buona ed ero contento del risultato. Per venti minuti buoni riuscivo a stare con Jeffrey Herlings e Toni Cairoli e il mio passo era buono. Ho avuto un altro grande inizio in gara due, ma la pista è stata annaffiata molto alla prima curva, quindi ho avuto un incidente e ho perso un sacco di posti. Poi ho fatto un paio di passaggi ma poi sono rimasto bloccato dietro Romain Febvre e, nonostante ci avessi provato con impegno, non sono riuscito a superarlo. Ho perso molta energia lì perché stavo combattendo con la moto e spingendo troppo forte, così negli ultimi tre giri mi sono concentrato sul mantenere il ritmo che avevo. Una fine davvero deludente per il weekend, ma torneremo a combattere in Francia.

Jeffrey Herlings: “KTM have been a family to me and to achieve 100 podiums with one brand is not something that happens often. 74 GP wins is simply amazing so a big thanks to everyone at KTM and especially Pit [Beirer] for believing in me almost ten years ago and bringing me to where I am now. We’ll go to France next with the same goal of making the podium. If we can take a win then great, if not – or even a podium – then we’ll do our best and see how it turns out. The start is really important at St Jean and it is tough to pass. We’ll see how things go.”
Antonio Cairoli: “It was a positive weekend and one in which I found the good starts that were missing in Germany as well as excellent race pace, even if it was not enough to win. I had a great feeling in practice on a track that was well prepared and full of lines, and in the qualifying race I managed to ride as I wanted and win. Today in both heats I managed to ride well; unfortunately the contact with Jeffrey in race one was unexpected but motocross is like this sometimes. In race two I tried to get away but in the end he caught and passed me. It’s a shame to lead 25 of the 28 laps without winning the Grand Prix but we must also say that the pace compared to the others is much higher and we have improved a lot compared to last year. We will not give up and will continue to attack next week in France.”
Romain Febvre: “It was a really tough weekend, but I am happy to be back on the podium. I got injured in Latvia after I connected with another rider but still, I was almost on the podium in Germany but I crashed again and hurt my foot pretty bad. Last week was not good, I saw many doctors and they suggested that I take four weeks out, but I wanted to at least try and score some points and now I am on the podium. I can’t thank everyone who supports me enough, especially the guys at Yamaha, the physiotherapist and everyone, without them I would probably not have been able to race let alone stand on the podium. “
MX2
Pauls Jonass: “I was struggling with the track on Saturday but turned it around for today. I had the chance to pass Jorge in the first moto after he had the holeshot; and that was really good because once Jorge gets a rhythm it can be difficult to overtake him. I was happy about that and then controlled the race but it was not that easy with Jorge always pushing. In the second moto I made a couple of mistakes at first but then found my lines and flow quite quickly. I was disappointed with my results in Germany, so this was much better and when I saw Jorge escaping again in the second moto I thought ‘not again…’ I think the second race was one of the best of the season for me. I tried to do a ‘Jeffrey’! We trained together last week in France and we motivated each other a bit.”
Jorge Prado: “The race went really well. This weekend Pauls was pushing really hard and we were so far ahead of third position in the first moto so you can imagine how hard we were going every single lap. I’m happy because I did my best; this weekend Pauls was the fastest and maybe next weekend it will be me. We are very similar right now and small details can make the difference. I’ve never had a podium here so I’m pleased about that also. I think the bikes and team we have here are the best-of-the-best.”
Calvin Vlaanderen: It was a hard-fought podium, that’s for sure. I didn’t have the best start in race one and had to scythe through the pack a bit. Fourth was a good result; I was a little bit lucky with Olsen’s retirement, but we will take it. In the second moto I was pumped and ready for battle: I came off the start really well but I got pushed wide at the first corner. I made a few mistakes early on but then I got in a little bit of a groove and tried to follow the guys in front of me. I kept calm and focused because I knew it was going to be a long race, and it was great to finish third. To be getting a podium here in England is awesome: it’s good for myself, the team and everyone around me. We are working hard and we’re getting it done, which is what we need to be doing.
OTHER RIDERS
Jeremy Seewer: “I had a bit of bad luck this weekend with the rocks. I split my face twice, once yesterday and once today. I felt like I had the speed to get up to sixth place, I could see all of those guys in front of me but I got hit with a big rock in the face. The skin popped open and started bleeding big time, but luckily I could finish the moto in twelfth. I fought hard in the second race, again I could see sixth place but it’s very difficult to pass out there, we are all going the same speed and it was a close battle. Overall, it was another solid weekend with a bit of bad luck but there are still positives to take away and I am looking forward to racing in France next weekend at Saint Jean, it’s one of my favourite tracks.”
Shaun Simpson: “I am a bit disappointed with the first moto today, purely because I didn’t feel myself. I regrouped between motos and made a small change to the bike and managed to come out in the second race with a lot more confidence and looking a lot like my old self. To sum up the weekend, it was a day of two halves and I am just glad to be out safe and sound. Two real hard motos in the bank. I look forward to going again next weekend in France. It’s really hard to come back in the middle of the season, even though I just missed two GP’s it’s going to be tough to get back up to race pace, but I think I will be back inside the top ten in the next few weeks and I am really looking forward to that.”
Clement Desalle: “I’m frustrated to miss another podium! In the first race I finished fourth; that was my place as I didn’t found any solution in some sections of the track to go faster and keep the pace with the guys in front of me. My second start was better; I was second for a time until Herlings passed me. It’s always tough to keep him behind but I stayed third and kept focusing on my lines. But then I crashed when my front wheel slid out in a corner and I lost two positions. I didn’t want to give up and I came back behind Febvre and Gajser; I passed Gajser but I ran out of time to try to pass Febvre and get the podium result.”
Tommy Searle: “I’m happy. It’s nice to get a nice result after all the injuries I had coming into this season. Now I feel a little more myself. I get top results in both races and was always in the top five in the practice sessions this weekend. My starts could have been better, otherwise I think I could have been even better but all in all it’s been a positive weekend. I’m more confident again and I feel there’s a lot more to come now. My season has really started now; I have worked hard to get this far and now it’s time to show what I’m capable of achieving.”
Tim Gajser: The first moto was good and I was happy with the result. For a good twenty minutes I was able to stay with Jeffrey Herlings and Toni Cairoli and my pace was good. I had another great start in race two but the track was watered a lot in the first corner, so I had a near-crash and lost a bunch of places. I then made a couple of passes but after that I got stuck behind Romain Febvre and, despite trying hard everywhere, I couldn’t overtake him. I lost a lot of energy there because I was fighting with the bike and pushing too hard, so in the last three laps I concentrated on keeping the pace that I had. A really disappointing end to the weekend, but we’ll come back fighting in France.
Thomas Covington: “Things worked quite well for me this weekend and I enjoyed the British GP. I had a decent start in the opening moto and managed to put myself in a good position. We had a great battle with Thomas [Kjer-Olsen] and I was happy to secure a third place result. My start was not as good in the second moto and I had to battle my way from the back of the leading pack. A small crash halfway through the moto made things harder, so I had to settle for ninth at the line. Overall, it was a positive weekend and I’m happy we’ve made some big improvements since the last GP.”
Thomas Kjer-Olsen: “This weekend we showed the speed was there to battle for the top three. We had some good battles in both motos and I was feeling great on my bike. Unfortunately a small technical issue didn’t let me finish the motos. It’s disappointing that I couldn’t collect points here in England but it is what it is. Overall, my pace has been good during the last few GPs and from now on it’s up to me to go out there and battle for the results we want.”
Max Anstie: “I’ve had some great memories at this track and I really wanted to do my best in front of the British fans. The speed was there throughout the weekend but unfortunately I could not get the best of starts in either of the two motos. Starting from the back of the pack in both motos I ended up getting 13th in moto one and 12th in moto two for 10th in the overall. We will keep working hoping for some improved results in the next GPs.”
Gautier Paulin: “It was a challenging weekend for us. Getting sixth in the qualifying race I was hoping for some good results during the final motos. In the opening moto I got off to a good start but a few corners later a crash made things a lot harder. In moto two my start was not good and a few mistakes forced me to settle for 15th at the line. We’re putting this weekend behind us and looking ahead now. We’re now heading to the GP of France and I will do my best for a good overall result in front of the French fans.”
