Gajser cerca la fiducia per sfidare l’egemonia KTM
Tim Gajser di HRC ammette di essere stato “distrutto mentalmente” dopo l’incidente pre-campionato a Mantova durante gli Internazionali d’Italia, dove si è fratturato la mascella in due punti ed è stato costretto a saltare il round di apertura dell’attuale campionato MXGP in Argentina.
Lo sloveno ha cercato di riscoprire la forma e la forma fisica che lo hanno visto sfuggire alla serie MXGP del 2016 nel suo primo tentativo e ha gestito due podi negli ultimi quattro round della stagione. Gajser è ancora colpito dallo schianto e dal conseguente intervento chirurgico e probabilmente avrà un intervento per togliere la placca dal suo volto non appena l’ultima gara del 2018 finisce a Imola in Italia alla fine di settembre.
“Penso di essere ancora ‘work-in-progress'”, ha dichiarato in esclusiva il Gran Premio di Germania della scorsa settimana. “Sento ancora che manca qualcosa. Fisicamente sono al 100% e ho pensato in Spagna [terzo round] ‘stiamo arrivando …’ ma posso ancora essere ancora più veloce. Sento di essere in buona forma ma riguarda il lato mentale, di credere di poterlo fare e questo è il punto in cui mi trovo ora. “
Gajser ha ottenuto il suo primo podio al Gran Premio del Portogallo, una settimana dopo il turno spagnolo, ma è mancato in Russia e Lettonia prima di piazzare un secondo posto per la sua miglior classificazione finora a Teutschenthal. Il #243 ha ammesso che il suo grande “off” a febbraio è stato più difficile da superare di quanto avesse previsto.
“Dopo un incidente del genere sono stato un po ‘distrutto”, ammette. “Mentalmente, l’ho messo nel passato ma c’erano altri ricordi come se non sentissi le mie labbra o parte della mia mascella. Ho solo provato a dimenticarmene quando salgo in moto e mi diverto. “
La Red Bull KTM ha vinto finora sette degli otto Gran Premi in questa stagione. Jeffrey Herlings è apparso su tutti e otto i podi mentre Tony Cairoli ne ha perso uno solo. Gasjer è sesto in classifica e a 165 punti dall’olandese in quella che è la sua terza stagione sul CRF450R ma sta rapidamente cercando di raggiungere il suo picco ancora una volta e perfezionare gli aspetti finali della Honda factory.
“Per riprendere confidenza e ricordare la sensazione di condurre al comando, ma per prima cosa abbiamo bisogno di un buon inizio”, ha detto Gajser sulle sue priorità. “Ci sono ancora molte cose su cui lavorare. Sono passati otto round e ne abbiamo molti altri in arrivo. “

Gajser searching for confidence to challenge KTM hegemony
HRC’s Tim Gajser admits he was “mentally destroyed” after the pre-season accident at Mantova during the Internazionali d’Italia where he broke his jaw in two places and was forced to miss the opening round of the current MXGP campaign in Argentina.
The Slovenian has been trying to rediscover the form and fitness that saw him romp away with the 2016 MXGP series in his first attempt and has managed two podium finishes in the last four rounds of the season. Gajser is still affected by the crash and the subsequent surgery and it likely to have an operation to have the plate removed from his face as soon as the ’18 contest finishes at Imola in Italy at the end of September.
“I think I am still ‘work-in-progress’,” he said exclusively at last week’s Grand Prix of Germany. “I still feel that something is missing. Physically I am 100% and I thought in Spain [round three] ‘we’re coming…’ but I can still be even faster. I feel I am in good shape but it is about the mental side, about believing you can do it and that’s the point I am at now.”
Gajser picked up his first podium appearance at the Grand Prix of Portugal, one week after the Spanish fixture but missed out in Russia and Latvia before posting a second place finish for his best classification so far at Teutschenthal. #243 admitted his big ‘off’ in February was harder to get over than he anticipated. “After a crash like that mentally I was a bit destroyed,” he admits. “Mentally, I put it in the past but there were other reminders like I couldn’t feel my lips or part of my jaw. I just tried to forget about it when I get on the bike and enjoy myself.”
Red Bull KTM have won seven of the eight Grands Prix this season so far. Jeffrey Herlings has appeared on all eight podiums while Tony Cairoli has missed just one. Gasjer is 6th in the standings and 165 points away from the Dutchman in what is his third season on the CRF450R but is rapidly trying to reach his peak once more and refine the final aspects of the factory Honda. “To get that confidence back and to remember the feeling of leading but first we need a good start,” Gajser said about his priorities. “There are many things still to work on. It’s been eight rounds and we have many more to come.”
