Dovizioso: il duello KTM MXGP è un “sogno”
Il vincitore dei Gran Premi nella MotoGP 2017 e il vincitore del Gran Premio del Qatar, Andrea Dovizioso, ha parlato avidamente della caccia al titolo MXGP 2018 e della lotta tra Tony Cairoli e Jeffrey Herlings della Red Bull, in particolare mentre la serie si reca in Lettonia per la settima tappa delle venti in questo fine settimana.
L’italiano è un fan appassionato di motocross e amico del campione del mondo MXGP Cairoli e crede che la stretta competizione tra il suo connazionale e l’olandese – che guida la classifica attuale – sia un piacere per i seguaci di MXGP. Il 32enne – che è stato eliminato dal Gran Premio di Spagna lo scorso fine settimana a Jerez dal suo compagno di squadra Jorge Lorenzo in una lotta per il secondo posto – afferma che lo stretto divario nella classifica tra #84 e #222 è quasi insignificante.
“I 23 punti con una stagione davvero lunga non sono così importanti”, dice Dovi. “Al momento e fin dall’inizio, Jeffrey è un po ‘più veloce di Tony e questo sta creando una situazione difficile; normalmente Tony è il migliore nel gestire tutti i piloti con la velocità e la mentalità … ma Jeffrey è un po ‘più veloce ed è stato difficile fermarlo. “

Dovizioso, che questa estate dovrebbe firmare nuovamente con la Ducati Factory, ma è stato anche legato alla Suzuki, ha approfittato dell’occasione per fare qualche giro negli Stati Uniti tra i Gran Premi di Argentina e Austin. “Ero in paradiso a Milestone”, dice. “Ho avuto due giorni e mezzo a Los Angeles e ho deciso di fare un giro in motocross in uno dei due!”

Dovizioso: KTM MXGP duel is a “dream”
2017 MotoGP championship runner-up and Qatar Grand Prix winner Andrea Dovizioso has spoken avidly on the 2018 MXGP title chase and the fight between Red Bull KTM’s Tony Cairoli and Jeffrey Herlings in particular as the series head to Latvia for round seven of twenty this weekend.
The Italian is a passionate motocross fan as well as friend of MXGP world champion Cairoli and believes the close competition between his countryman and the Dutchman – who leads the current standings – is a treat for MXGP followers. The 32 year old – who was punted out of the Spanish Grand Prix last weekend at Jerez by his teammate Jorge Lorenzo in a tussle for second place – says the narrow gap in the standings between #84 and #222 is almost insignificant.
“23 points with a really long season is not so important,” ‘Dovi’ says. “At the moment – and from the beginning – Jeffrey is a little bit faster than Tony and that is creating a difficult situation; normally Tony is the best at managing all the riders with the speed and the mentality…but Jeffrey is a bit faster and it has been difficult to stop him.”
“We all know that in motocross anything can happen at any race,” he adds. “They have touched in the last couple of GPs…! The story is not finished…and I’m so happy about that because for the fans of motocross – like me – it is a dream to see that. It is a real fight. I’m happy that Jeffrey is a bit stronger at the moment because Tony is so strong and never gives up right until the end. We will see a lot of nice things.”
Dovizioso, who is expected to re-sign with the Ducati factory this summer but has also been linked to Suzuki, took the opportunity to ride some laps in the US between Grands Prix in Argentina and Austin. “I was in paradise at Milestone,” he says. “I had two and a half days in Los Angeles and decided to do ride motocross for two of them!”
