FIM Motocross World Championship – MX1 / MX2

NEUQUEN (Patagonia Argentina), 28 febbraio 2018 – La stagione 2018 del Campionato Mondiale FIM Motocross è alle porte e inizierà questo fine settimana sull’amato circuito della Patagonia-Argentina. Villa La Angostura, nella provincia di Neuquen, ospiterà ancora una volta la serie MXGP, ma per la prima volta la pittoresca regione con laghi cristallini e imponenti cime montane aprirà la stagione. Sarà la prima volta quest’anno che i piloti dei campionati del mondo MXGP e MX2 si sfideranno l’un l’altro.

Il ricco terreno vulcanico della pista argentina si svilupperà bene per tutto il weekend e sarà indubbiamente impegnativo per i migliori piloti del mondo e la loro preparazione fuori stagione.

Nel 2015, quando MXGP ha corso per la prima volta sulla pista Neuquen, è stato Max Nagl a salire sul gradino più alto del podio. Il tedesco è ora passato al team TM Racing Racing Factory per la nuova stagione. Negli ultimi 2 anni la vittoria è stata invece conquistata dal corridore del team HRC sloveno e campione del mondo MXGP del 2016 Tim Gajser. Con il difensore non presente a causa di un infortunio pre-campionato molti altri contendenti del titolo cercheranno di aggiungere il loro nome alla lista dei vincitori in terra argentina.

Quest’anno, ancora una volta, chiunque può indovinare chi potrebbe vincere, anche se tra i molti che torneranno a competere nel 2018 si potrebbe dire che i pioti di Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Antonio Cairoli e Jeffrey Herlings hanno maggiori possibilità di successo, ma non finisce qui .

Antonio Cairoli ha anche avuto un fuori stagione molto forte ed è in forma e ben preparato per il 2018 e ovviamente è uno dei migliori che lo sport abbia mai visto con 9 campionati del mondo al suo nome, solo 1 dietro il leader di sempre Stefan Everts, tra cui la sua rinascita nel 2017, dopo le due ferite accumulate nelle stagioni precedenti. E sì, Jeffrey Herlings ha dimostrato di essere l’uomo da battere una volta in salute nel 2017, ma entrambi sono solo due dei tanti campioni presenti nella classe regina.

Romain Febvre, il 2015 campione del mondo MXGP sarà a bordo di una YZ450F tutta nuova, uscirà dalla sua vittoria del Monster Energy FIM Motocross delle Nazioni 2017, ed è affamato di vittorie dopo una deludente stagione 2017. Ancora una volta sul circuito Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing è Jeremy Van Horebeek che si è piazzato 2 ° assoluto nella visita 2017 in Argentina.

Poi devi anche guardare il compagno di squadra francese MXoN di Febvre, il pilota della Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing MXGP Gautier Paulin. Paulin ha dimostrato non solo di essere veloce e coerente finendo la stagione 2017 MXGP al terzo posto nei punti, ma che è abbastanza veloce da vincere dopo aver vinto la MXGP d’Europa 2017 in generale. Un altro nome che ha trovato la sua strada in Argentina è il pilota ospitato da BOS Evgeny Bobryshev. Bobryshev ha visto il successo qui l’anno scorso quando ha raggiunto il podio anche se si sentiva sotto i tempi.

Se consideri tutti quelli che hanno vinto un GP in un punto o in un altro, stai considerando la quasi maggioranza della griglia di partenza! Il livello di competizione che si sta dirigendo nella stagione MXGP 2018 è ad un livello alto pieno di veterani e giovani stelle che lottano tutti per il primo posto.

Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team arriverà in Argentina con un mix di novità con il debuttante della MXGP Julien Lieber che si unisce al veterano il forte belga, Clement Desalle.

Lo stesso può dirsi per il team Wilvo Yamaha MXGP che schiererà sia il concorrente del titolo MX2 2017, Jeremy Seewer, che il veterano della MXGP Shaun Simpson in sella alla nuova Yamaha 450. Il team di Wilvo ospiterà tre piloti nel 2018, ma manca Arnaud Tonus all’inizio della stagione, si sta riprendendo da un infortunio alla spalla in fuori stagione.

Mentre la classe MXGP è piena di risultati comprovati, la classe MX2 è piena di giovani talenti. In cima alla lista c’è senza dubbio il campione del mondo MX2 2017 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Pauls Jonass ma con Jeremy Seewer, il principale sfidante del 2017, che si è spostato sulla 450 con il suo nuovo Wilvo Yamaha team, la domanda ora è, chi potrebbe sfidare il campione in carica?

In realtà non devi guardare lontano, infatti il ​​suo giovane compagno di squadra Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, Jorge Prado, è un probabile vincitore del GP soprattutto dopo aver rivendicato la sua giusta quota di vittorie nel 2017. Il compagno di squadra di Olsen, l’americano, Thomas Covington è un altro nome da buttare nel mix dopo aver vinto le gare nelle ultime due stagioni. Covington ha mostrato una velocità impeccabile nel 2017 ma ha faticato ad avere 2 gare consistenti nella stessa giornata.

Il team 2018 HRC MX2 recluta Calvin Vlaanderen che è stato impressionante in bassa stagione sulla sua nuova Honda ed è sicuramente fiducioso nel suo ritmo per iniziare la stagione.

Tutto nuovo nel 2018 è la squadra ufficiale di Yamaha MX2 Kemea, la squadra di tre corridori non ha un pilota di ritorno ma è piena di talento. Ben Watson sarà in sella a una Yamaha per la prima volta nella sua carriera al fianco di Vsevolod Brylakov, che torna dall’infortunio, e l’ex campione del mondo EMX125 e Junior ora Joker Geerts, il rookie della MX2.

Il carismatico australiano Hunter Lawrence, ha trovato una nuova casa in sella a una Honda per la nuova gestione di Livia Lancelot del Team 114 al fianco di Bas Vaessen. L’australiano ha mostrato una velocità sorprendente alla fine del 2017, dove era anche contro i 450 piloti più forti della sua underpowered 250 al Matterley Basin durante il Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations.

MXGP Set to Start in Patagonia

NEUQUEN (Patagonia Argentina), 28 February 2018 – The 2018 FIM Motocross World Championship season is upon us and set to start at the beloved circuit of Patagonia-Argentina this weekend. Villa La Angostura, Neuquen Province will once again host the MXGP series but for the first time ever the picturesque region with crystal clear lakes and towering mountain peaks will open the season. It will be the first time this year that the riders of the MXGP and MX2 World Championships are to battle against one another.

The rich volcanic soil of the Argentinian track will develop well throughout the weekend and will undoubtably get rough and technical challenging the world’s best riders and their off season preparation.

 

In 2015 when MXGP first raced on the Neuquen track it was Max Nagl on the top step of the podium.  The German has now changed to the TM Racing Racing Factory team for the new season. The past 2 years the win has however been taken by the Slovenian Team HRC rider and 2016 MXGP World Champion Tim Gajser. With the defending winner not in attendance due to a pre-season injury many other title contenders will be looking to add their name to the list of winners on Argentinian soil.

This year, once again, it’s anyone guess who could win, though of the many returning to compete in 2018 one might say that Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli or Jeffrey Herlings are the most likely to succeed, but it doesn’t end there.

Antonio Cairoli has also had a very strong off season and is looking fit and well prepared for 2018 and of course is one of the best the sport has ever seen with 9 world championships to his name, only 1 behind all time leader Stefan Everts, including his resurgence in 2017 after the two injury laden seasons prior. And yes, Jeffrey Herlings proved to be the man to beat once healthy in 2017 but both are just two of the many former champions present in the premier class.

Romain Febvre, the 2015 MXGP World Champion will be aboard an all new YZ450F, comes off his 2017 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations victory, and is hungry for wins after a disappointing 2017 season. Once again joining on the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing machine is Jeremy Van Horebeek who placed 2nd overall in the 2017 visit in Argentina.

Then you also must look at Febvre’s MXoN French teammate, the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory RacingMXGP rider Gautier Paulin. Paulin showed not only that he is fast and consistent by finishing the 2017 MXGP season 3rd in the points but that he is fast enough to win after taking the 2017 MXGP of Europe overall. Both Paulin and Febvre are very capable of crashing the Herlings and Cairoli party many expect this year.

The #99 of Max Anstie who will again be riding for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing squad ended his 2017 on a high not with MXoN success and will look to keep that momentum going.

Another name that has found his way to Argentina is the BOS GP hosted Evgeny Bobryshev. Bobryshev saw success here last year when he reached the podium even while feeling under the weather.

If you consider all of those who have won a GP at one point or another then you are considering the near majority of the starting grid! The level of competition heading into the 2018 MXGP season is at an all time high full of veterans and young stars all fighting for the top spot.

Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team will come into Argentina a mix of new with old as MXGP rookie Julien Lieber joins the factory effort alongside the strong Belgian, Clement Desalle.

The same can also be said for the Wilvo Yamaha MXGP team who will have both the 2017 MX2 title contender, Jeremy Seewer, and returning MXGP veteran Shaun Simpson riding the new Yamaha 450. The Wilvo team is set to host three riders in 2018 but will miss Arnaud Tonus at the season start as he bounces back from an off season shoulder injury.

While the MXGP class is full of proven results the MX2 class is full of young talent. At the top of the list is without doubt the 2017 MX2 World Champion Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass but with his main challenger from 2017, Jeremy Seewer, moving to the 450 ranks with his newfound Wilvo Yamaha team, the question now is who might challenge the reigning champ?

In reality you don’t have to look far, as a matter of fact his young Red Bull KTM Factory Racing teammate, Jorge Prado, is a likely GP winner especially after claiming his fair share of victories in 2017. Prado is the epitome of both youth and talent claiming his first win at the young age of 16. Jonass and Prado faced off here in 2017 and though the racing was clean Prado was never fazed or intimidated by Jonass.

Thomas Kjer Olsen was also a rookie in 2017 but even so he was able to claim a victory as early as the MXGP of Latvia. Now with a year of experience under his belt the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider is on the short list of possible title contenders for the podium or even a win this weekend.

Olsen’s teammate, the American, Thomas Covington is another name to toss in the mix after winning races each of the last two seasons. Covington showed some impeccable speed in 2017 but struggled to have 2 consistent races in the same sitting.

The 2018 Team HRC MX2 recruit, Calvin Vlaanderen has been impressive in the off season on his new Honda and is surely confident in his pace to start the season.

All new in 2018 is the Kemea Yamaha Official MX2 team, the three-rider squad has no returning rider but is full of talent. Ben Watson will be riding a Yamaha for the first time in his career alongside Vsevolod Brylakov, who returns from injury, and former EMX125 and Junior World Champion now MX2 rookie Jago Geerts.
