Christian Craig Set to Ride for Team Honda HRC
Aggiornamenti sullo stato di salute di Ken Roczen e Cole Seely
TORRANCE, California (28 febbraio 2018) – Con i piloti Ken Roczen e Cole Seely fuori causa infortuni, il Team Honda HRC annuncia oggi che Christian Craig di GEICO Honda gareggerà con un CRF450R come unico pilota della squadra di serie ad Atlanta Supercross di questo fine settimana e la prossima settimana a Daytona Supercross.
Dopo un promettente inizio della stagione AMA Supercross, il team Honda HRC è stato tormentato da infortuni. Roczen ha riportato ferite alla mano destra a San Diego dopo aver effettuato tre podi nei primi cinque round. Seely era in seconda posizione nella classifica a punti quando si fratturava il bacino e l’osso sacro nel round di Tampa dello scorso fine settimana.
Roczen sta facendo progressi nella sua guarigione. Martedì 27 febbraio, il tedesco ha visitato il suo medico locale per il suo primo appuntamento di follow-up da quando il Dr. Viola ha eseguito un intervento chirurgico il 16 febbraio. I punti di Roczen sono stati rimossi da tutte e cinque le incisioni e un’altra radiografia è stata presa. Indossa ancora un tutore e ha un altro controllo fra tre settimane. Roczen è ottimista riguardo al futuro e ha i suoi occhi puntati sull’inizio della serie AMA Pro Motocross, che inizia ad Hangtown il 19 maggio.
Il compagno di squadra Seely è ancora ammesso al St. Joseph’s Hospital di Tampa, ma spera di essere rilasciato entro il fine della settimana. A quel punto, tornerà nella sua casa temporanea a Claremont, in Florida, dove rimarrà fino al suo appuntamento di follow-up.
Questo segnerà il quarto stint che Craig ha servito come sostituto della squadra ufficiale. Mentre si trovava sotto la tenda del team Honda HRC l’anno scorso, Craig ha piazzato un paio di piazzamenti nelle gare di Salt Lake City e Las Vegas AMA Supercross, e ha poi concluso all’undicesimo posto nella serie AMA Pro Motocross. Ha anche guidato per la squadra alla Monster Energy Cup di Las Vegas lo scorso ottobre.
“Sono molto eccitato di guidare il CRF450R per i prossimi weekend, ma sono anche estremamente depresso per Cole e Ken”, ha detto Craig. “Cole e io ci alleniamo e guidiamo i partner e facciamo tutto insieme, quindi vederlo farsi male lo scorso fine settimana è stato davvero sconvolgente. Ho lavorato con il team per un paio di round di supercross l’anno scorso e per tutta l’estate, quindi ci conosciamo bene. Ho anche un’idea di quali impostazioni mi piacciono sulla moto. Avremo un paio di giorni per testare prima di andare ad Atlanta questo fine settimana. Sono grato per questa opportunità e spero che Cole e io possiamo tornare presto a fare la nostra routine normale. ”
“Essendo Christian un pilota del team Honda e avendo trascorso molto tempo in sella alla nostra moto l’anno scorso, per lui era più sensato passare alla classe 450,” ha spiegato il team HR HR Manager Erik Kehoe. “Ha la velocità e il talento per fornire solidi risultati per noi, quindi non vediamo l’ora di lavorare ancora con lui. Questo è uno dei molti vantaggi di avere una così grande collaborazione con GEICO Honda, e li apprezziamo permettendoci di avere Christian così rapidamente. ”
Dopo il Daytona Supercross, il Team Honda HRC prenderà una decisione sulla sua squadra di piloti per i round successivi.

Health-status updates for Ken Roczen and Cole Seely
TORRANCE, Calif. (February 28, 2018) – With riders Ken Roczen and Cole Seely out of action with injuries, Team Honda HRC announces today that GEICO Honda’s Christian Craig will race a CRF450R as the factory squad’s sole rider at this weekend’s Atlanta Supercross and next week’s Daytona Supercross.
Following a promising start to the AMA Supercross season, Team Honda HRC has been plagued by injuries. Roczen suffered injuries to his right hand in San Diego after posting three podium finishes in the first five rounds. Seely was running second in the points standings when he fractured his pelvis and sacrum at last weekend’s Tampa round.
Roczen is making progress in his recovery. On Tuesday, February 27, the German visited his local physician for his first follow-up appointment since Dr. Viola performed surgery on February 16. Roczen’s stitches were removed from all five incisions, and another X-ray was taken. He is still wearing a brace and has another checkup in three weeks. Roczen is optimistic about the future and has his sights set on the start of the AMA Pro Motocross series, which begins at Hangtown on May 19.
Teammate Seely is still admitted at Tampa’s St. Joseph’s Hospital but is hoping to be released by the end of the week. At that point, he will return to his temporary home in Claremont, Florida, where he’ll remain until his follow-up appointment.
This will mark the fourth stint that Craig has served as a substitute rider for the factory squad. While pitting under the Team Honda HRC tent last year, Craig posted a pair of 11th place finishes at the Salt Lake City and Las Vegas AMA Supercross rounds, and he then finished 11th overall in the AMA Pro Motocross series. He also rode for the team at the Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas last October.
“I’m super excited to be riding the CRF450R for the next few weekends, but I’m also extremely bummed for Cole and Ken,” Craig said. “Cole and I are training and riding partners and kind of do everything together, so seeing him get hurt last weekend was really upsetting. I worked with the team for a couple supercross rounds last year and the entire summer, so we know each other well. I also have an idea of what settings I like on the bike. We’ll have a couple days to test before heading to Atlanta this weekend. I’m grateful for this opportunity and hoping Cole and I can get back to doing our normal routine soon.”
“With Christian already being a Honda team rider and having spent a lot of time on our bike last year, it made the most sense for him to transition into the 450 class for us,” Team Honda HRC Manager Erik Kehoe explained. “He’s got the speed and talent to deliver solid results for us, so we’re looking forward to working with him again. This is one of the many benefits to having such a great partnership with GEICO Honda, and we appreciate them allowing us to have Christian so quickly.”
Following the Daytona Supercross, Team Honda HRC will make a decision on its rider lineup for subsequent rounds.
