Sanayei si trasferisce in Belgio per compiere il prossimo passo in MXGP
Il pilota della Kawasaki DRT Darian Sanayei ha scelto di trasferirsi vicino a Lommel in Belgio per aumentare le sue possibilità di colpire il gruppo di testa per il suo secondo anno nel campionato mondiale FIM MX2. L’americano ha ottenuto il miglior risultato con un quarto posto nella sua campagna d’esordio con la KX250F e dopo aver trascinato l’esperienza di gara EMX250 nel Grand Prix.
“Ho avuto un bel po ‘di debolezze la scorsa stagione e sento che vivendo vicino a Lommel potrò migliorare in molti di questi punti”, ha detto l’americano, uno dei due rappresentanti degli Stati Uniti nella classe. “Sto bene nella sabbia ma potrei migliorare la mia forma fisica e tecnica. Penso che sarà di grande aiuto, anche per le condizioni fangose. Sembra che molti piloti del Gran Premio si trovino in quella zona e questo deve essere per una ragione. ”
Sanayei è modesto per il 2017 in cui ha primeggiato al Gran Premio d’Argentina, ma poi ha anche affrontato alcune delle diverse sfide di MXGP. L’esaurimento dal caldo e un grave incidente al Gran Premio di Lombardia in Italia è stato il momento più difficile. Il ventunenne aveva precedentemente sede nel Regno Unito e vicino al suo equipaggio Kawasaki, gestito da Steve Dixon, prima di attraversare il canale verso la terraferma europea.
“Nella seconda metà dell’EMX nel 2016 sono rimasto lì praticamente ogni singola gara e, arrivando in MX2, ho avuto più speranze di quello che ho gestito; Penso di non essere completamente pronto per tutte le variabili come i flyaway e tutti i circuiti “, dice. “Ho cercato di entrare il più preparato possibile e non credo di aver sottovalutato la classe: l’undicesimo posto in campionato non è terribile e ho fatto un passo nella giusta direzione”.
Dopo aver visto i progressi compiuti dal connazionale Thomas Covington e in particolare l’evoluzione del pilota Rockstar Energy Husqvarna come pilota di sabbia e in condizioni di bagnato e scivoloso, Sanayei ha acquisito una preziosa esperienza per continuare la sua ascesa in MXGP. “Vado all-in e faccio tutto il possibile”, ha ammesso. “Sto cercando di aumentare il mio programma in ogni singolo modo.”

Sanayei moves to Belgium to take next step in MXGP
Kawasaki DRT rider Darian Sanayei has elected to move close to Lommel in Belgium to boost his chances of affecting the leading group for his second year in the MX2 FIM World Championship. The American managed a best moto result of fourth in his debut campaign with the KX250F and after carrying EMX250 race-winning experience into Grand Prix.
“I had quite a few weaknesses last season and I feel that by living near Lommel I’ll be able to get better at a lot of those,” said the American, just one of two representatives from the USA in the class. “I’m alright in sand but could improve my fitness and technique. I think it will help a lot, for muddy conditions also. It seems that a lot of Grand Prix riders are based in that area and that has to be for a reason.”
Sanayei is modest about 2017 in which he excelled at the Grand Prix of Argentina but then also struggled across some of the diverse challenges of MXGP. Heat exhaustion and a heavy crash at the Grand Prix of Lombardia in Italy was the toughest moment. The 21 year old had previously been based in the UK and near his Steve Dixon-run Kawasaki crew before crossing the channel to the European mainland.
“In the second half of EMX in 2016 I was up there pretty much every single race and coming into MX2 I had higher hopes than what I managed; I think I wasn’t totally ready for all the variables like the flyaways and all the tracks,” he says. “I tried to come in as well-prepared as I could and I don’t think I underestimated the class: eleventh in the championship is not terrible and I made a step in the right direction.”
After seeing the progress made by countryman Thomas Covington and in particular the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider’s evolution as a sand rider and in wet and slick conditions Sanayei has gained valuable experience to continues his rise in MXGP. “I’m going all-in and doing whatever I can,” he admitted. “I am trying to step-up my programme in every single way.”
