Hsu sta cercando di ricominciare la carriera di Grand Prix con Bud Racing

L’ex campione europeo e campionato del mondo Brian Hsu sarà presente al via per le gare europee della serie FIM MX2 2018 dopo essersi unito al team Kawasaki di Bud Racing e cercherà di rilanciare una carriera che si è bloccata per un polso rotto nell’inverno del 2015 .

Il 19enne ha fatto il suo debutto nei GP prima di subire l’infortunio mentre correva a EICMA, Milano. Da allora ha vissuto un periodo difficile con la Suzuki nel 2016 e poi quest’anno con la squadra Husqvarna Maurer-GP.

“Prima di infortunarmi, il mio primo anno su un 250 è stato abbastanza buono e stavo migliorando sempre, ma dopo l’infortunio al polso ha iniziato a calare”, ha detto Hsu che ha impressionato con i primi dieci risultati nel suo mandato ma ha anche affrontato le fratture alle dita e le frustrazioni con set-up nella seconda parte, in ritardo, su RM-Z250. Un problema alla spalla questo autunno è stato un nuovo calo. “Il mio polso era un grosso problema e poi le cose sono cambiate nel team con un nuovo capo. Ero “sopra” e stavo lottando “.

“Abbiamo trovato un’altra squadra in cui abbiamo potuto creare il nostro set-up e seguire le nostre idee, ma non è stato facile perché la base non era forte per me. L’inizio dell’anno con Husqvarna stava andando bene, ma qualcosa o sarebbe successo alla moto o a me ed è stata una situazione di una gara buona una gara cattiva. Non potevo più gestirlo o essere in grado di aumentare il ritmo. Alla fine dell’anno, ad una gara dell’ADAC, la mia spalla è saltata fuori ed è stato piuttosto brutto … Sono stato fortunato a non aver bisogno di un’operazione. Sono già due mesi che non faccio niente. Ora sto ricostruendo con la palestra e la bicicletta. “

Hsu ha trovato una nuova casa con la squadra francese di Bud Racing, che è stata determinante nella carriera di talenti francesi come Dylan Ferrandis e Livia Lancelot. Parteciperà alla MX2 e alle serie nazionale francese e selezionerà gli eventi ADAC tedeschi. “Adoro già la moto”, ha detto Hsu, anche lui campione del mondo 85cc. “Non avevo mai guidato una Kawasaki e stare su una moto giapponese mi fa sentire a mio agio. L’ho guidata una volta e sono già eccitato. Il set-up con Stephane [Dasse] è davvero buono: hanno un allenatore e un bel posto [workshop]. Mi sento cool e pronto per ricominciare. La squadra è molto flessibile – supercross, motocross – e mi sento come se ci capiamo bene. “

Fondamentalmente il tedesco crede di poter riprendere la posizione come una delle più brillanti prospettive in Europa. “Ne sono sicuro”, afferma. “Con tutto ciò che ho adesso e come mi sento dentro. La storia non è ancora iniziata, ma con tutta questa struttura credo e so di poter essere tra i primi cinque … se tutto va bene. Sono davvero positivo e pompato! ”

Hsu looking to restart Grand Prix career with Bud Racing

Former 125cc European and World Champion Brian Hsu will be present in the gate for the European rounds of the 2018 FIM MX2 series after joining the Bud Racing Kawasaki team and will be looking to revive a career that stalled with a broken wrist in the winter of 2015.

The 19 year old made his GP debut before sustaining the injury while racing at the EICMA show in Milan. He since endured a tough time with Suzuki in 2016 and then this year with the Husqvarna Maurer-GP team.

“Before I got injured my first year on a 250 was quite good and I was always improving but after the wrist it started dropping down,” said Hsu who impressed with top ten results in his maiden term but also dealt with broken fingers and frustrations with set-up in the second, delayed, campaign on the RM-Z250. A shoulder problem this autumn was a new low. “My wrist was a big problem and then things changed in the team with a new boss. I was ‘over it’ and I was struggling.”

“We found another team where we could make our own set-up and follow our own ideas but is also wasn’t easy because the base was not strong for me. The beginning of the year with Husqvarna was going well but something would either happen to the bike or to me and it was a case of one-race-good one-race-bad. I couldn’t handle it any more or be able to pick up the pace. Finally at the end of the year at an ADAC race my shoulder popped out and it was pretty bad…I was lucky not to need an operation. It has been two months already without doing anything. Now I am building up with the gym and the bicycle.”

Hsu found a new home with the French Bud Racing crew that have been instrumental in the careers of French talent like Dylan Ferrandis and Livia Lancelot. He will be in MX2 as well as the French national series and select German ADAC events. “I love the bike already,” said Hsu who is also an ex-85cc World Champ. “I’d never ridden a Kawasaki and being back on a Japanese bike feels comfortable. I’ve ridden it once and I’m already excited. The set-up with Stephane [Dasse] is really good: they have a trainer and a nice place [workshop]. I’m feeling fresh and ready to start again. The team are very flexible – supercross, motocross – and I feel like we understand each other well already.”

Crucially the German believes he can resume the position as one of the brightest prospects in Europe. “I’m sure of it,” he asserts. “With everything I have now and how I feel inside. The story hasn’t really started yet but with all this structure I believe and I know I can be top five…if it all goes well. I’m really positive and pumped!”
