Musquin brushes aside 2018 Supercross ‘favourite’ tag
Marvin Musquin della Red Bull KTM è stato veloce nel minimizzare le sue possibilità di fiorire e iniziare la stagione AMA Supercross 2018 all’Angel Stadium di Anaheim il 6 gennaio come uno dei favoriti per la corona lasciata dall’ex compagno di squadra Ryan Dungey.
Il 27enne francese ha vinto comodamente la Monster Energy Cup, il Red Bull Straight Rhythm e il Paris Supercross (con un’apparizione al Geneva Supercross prossimamente) e ha unito la velocità costante, la tecnica imperiosa e le ottime partenze per sconfiggere una serie di rivali , tra cui Eli Tomac, Jason Anderson e Dean Wilson.
“Se vinci, le persone possono iniziare a pensare che sarai il campione … ma un ragazzo come Dungey non ha mai fatto gare fuori stagione”, sorride Musquin che ha anche preso un milione di dollari per il suo stop a Las Vegas per la Monster Cup.
# 25 ha ammesso che la sua vittoria a Parigi a l’U Arena – il suo secondo successo “King of Paris” di fila – è stato un esercizio utile prima di A1 e valeva la pena per la piccola interruzione del suo periodo di allenamento con Aldon Baker ( il sudafricano era presente a Parigi). “La Monster Cup è unica e così anche Straight Rhythm: non è Anaheim. Oggi [Parigi] è stata una pista davvero buona e un buon confronto. “
“È così facile dire le cose!” Ha detto il vincitore di Parigi. “L’obiettivo è essere il migliore. Questo è ora il mio terzo anno nella grande classe in moto. Cercheremo di essere migliori. “
All’inizio di quest’anno Musquin ha pedinato il podio 450SX dieci volte, ha vinto due volte e si è piazzato terzo nella classifica del campionato. Insieme a Tomac e Anderson, si prevede che sarà un concorrente per il titolo attraverso i diciassette round tra gennaio e maggio.

Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin was quick to downplay his flowering chances of starting the 2018 AMA Supercross season at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim on January 6th as one of the favourites for the crown left by former teammate Ryan Dungey.
The 27 year old Frenchman has comfortably won the Monster Energy Cup, the Red Bull Straight Rhythm and the Paris Supercross (with an appearance at the Geneva Supercross to come) and has combined consistent speed, imperious technique and excellent starts to defeat a number of rivals, including Eli Tomac, Jason Anderson and Dean Wilson.
“If you win people can start to think you’ll be the champion…but a guy like Dungey never did any off-season races,” smiles Musquin who also picked up a million dollar cheque for his shut-out in Las Vegas for the Monster Cup.
#25 did admit that his victory in Paris and the U Arena – his second ‘King of Paris’ success in a row – was a useful exercise ahead of A1 and was worthwhile for the minor disruption of his bootcamp period of training with Aldon Baker (the South African was present in Paris). “The Monster Cup is unique and so is Straight Rhythm: it is not Anaheim. Today [Paris] was a really good track and a good comparison.”
“It is so easy to say things!” he said of the hype. “The goal is to be the best. This is now my third year in the big bike class. We’ll try to be better.”
Earlier this year Musquin walked the 450SX podium ten times, took two wins and finished third in the championship standings. Along with Tomac and Anderson he is expected to be a title contender through the seventeen rounds between January and May.
