KRT guarda a gennaio per il debutto con Lieber MXGP
Monster Energy Kawasaki dovrebbe avere entrambi i suoi piloti ufficiali armati delle KX450F nelle prossime sette-otto settimane se il recupero di Julien Lieber dall’operazione del ginocchio sinistro continua a progredire, dice il Team Manager Francois Lemariey. Il 23enne belga ha recuperato l’infortunio al Gran Premio del 2017 in Francia per quella che è stata la sua ultima apparizione nella categoria MX2.
“Ha iniziato a fare sport e tornerà in moto entro la metà di gennaio”, dice Lamariey. “L’infortunio è piuttosto lungo e vogliamo prendere tempo che tutto sia a posto e che vada bene. L’intervento è stato buono. Inizieremo a gennaio e svilupperemo durante la stagione. Sarà breve ma Julien e Clement hanno una buona connessione. ”
Lieber è stata la seconda scelta del Kawasaki Factory accanto a Clement Desalle per il 2018 con il 33 per debuttare nella classe regina. Desalle è già tornato in pista dopo una riabilitazione di successo per un problema alla schiena sostenuto nel GP d’Olanda ad Assen e alla penultima uscita nella lista del 2017.
“Clement ha iniziato a guidare due settimane fa e tutto sta andando bene ed è affamato di moto”, ha aggiunto Lemariey. “Quindi ci stiamo preparando per l’allenamento invernale e per andare in Spagna per alcune buone condizioni. Inizieremo i test tra qualche giorno per prepararci per il prossimo anno. ”
Desalle ha messo a segno due vittorie nel Grand Prix nel 2017 e ha inseguito Tony Cairoli in vetta alla classifica punti MXGP. Il belga ha conquistato cinque podi ma ha perso l’ultimo round a Villars sous Ecot e si è classificato quarto in campionato. Il 2018 sarà il suo terzo anno sul KX450F e il primo mandato di un nuovo accordo biennale firmato in estate.
“Clement si sente a suo agio con la moto … Direi che è più importante per la squadra che vuole portare alcune cose per migliorarla”, ha detto Lemariey in merito ai piani di test intorno al 25. “Cerchiamo sempre di migliorare, ma la base è OK e gli piace. Lavoriamo sempre sul telaio e alcune piccole cose, come le partenze. Riguarda i dettagli … ma spesso fanno la differenza perché sappiamo che altri produttori stanno lavorando sodo. Non è perché non siamo contenti del 2017; semplicemente non rallentiamo. ”

KRT eyeing January for Lieber MXGP debut
Monster Energy Kawasaki should have both of their factory riders armed with works KX450Fs in the next seven-eight weeks if Julien Lieber’s recovery from a left knee operation continues to progress, says Team Manager Francois Lemariey. The 23 year old Belgian picked up the injury at the final Grand Prix of 2017 in France for what was his last appearance in the MX2 category.
“He has started to do some sport and will be back on the bike by mid-January,” Lamariey says. “The injury is quite a ‘long’ one and we want to take time that it is all fixed and going well. The surgery was good. We’ll start in January and build up through the season. It will be tight but Julien and Clement have a good connection.”
Lieber was the surprise second rider pick for Kawasaki next to Clement Desalle for 2018 with #33 set to make his debut in the premier class. Desalle has already returned to the track after successful rehab for a back problem sustained at the Dutch GP at Assen and the penultimate outing on the 2017 slate.
“Clement started riding two weeks ago and everything is going fine and he is hungry to ride,” added Lemariey. “So we are preparing for winter training and to head to Spain for some good conditions. We’ll start testing in a few days to prepare for next year.”
Desalle posted two Grand Prix wins in 2017 and was chasing Tony Cairoli at the top of the MXGP points table at one stage. The Belgian bagged five podiums but missed the last round at Villars sous Ecot and classified fourth in the championship. 2018 will be his third on the KX450F and the first term of a new two-year deal signed in the summer.
“Clement feels comfortable with the bike…I would say it is more about the team that want to bring some things to make it better,” Lemariey said of testing plans around #25. “We always try to improve but the base is OK and he likes it. We always work on the chassis and some small things, like the starts. It is about details…but they often make the difference because we know other manufacturers are working hard. It is not because we are unhappy with the 2017; we just don’t slow down.”
