RedBud talk 2018 Motocross of Nations
Gli Stati Uniti saranno il terzo paese in questo secolo a mettere in scena il Motocross delle Nazioni, tre occasioni da quando la 72a edizione della corsa storica visiterà RedBud a Buchanan, Michigan, nel prossimo ottobre 2018. Dopo che Glen Helen è saltato e l’USGP è stato riorganizzato, è stato effettivamente difficile mediare il Nazioni a RedBud?
In realtà non lo è stato. Dobbiamo solo essere pazienti. Abbiamo espresso un interesse qualche tempo fa e poi abbiamo dovuto elaborare la giusta tempistica. Youthstream e Sport MX avevano davvero bisogno di lavorare insieme per avere successo e questo è il caso giusto.
E le location degli ultimi due Nazioni a Budds Creek e Thunder Valley? Hai parlato con uno di quei ragazzi?
Tim [suo fratello] e io eravamo entrambi a Budds Creek e abbiamo aiutato quanto potevamo. Abbiamo effettivamente preso una squadra. Tim era in Colorado con un paio di ragazzi. Quindi abbiamo imparato molto da questi due eventi. Non sono sicuro di cosa erano le loro possibilità finanziariamente parlando, ma Budds Creek aveva una folla meravigliosa con grande energia. E ‘stato interessante vedere come l’intera struttura [MXoN] si trasferì negli Stati Uniti con tutto il patriottismo dei paesi e credo si sia trasferito bene. La gente è venuta attraverso l’Atlantico e lo ha reso molto speciale Budds Creek; Non sono andata in Colorado. Se il Nazioni è a est del Mississippi allora è più facile per gli europei arrivare e questo è abbastanza la chiave. Non vedo l’ora che i tifosi americani abbiano un assaggio di questo [l’atmosfera].
Puoi parlare della scala delle differenze per il Nazioni a RedBud rispetto ad un National?
Possiamo solo indovinare. Chiedo se i numeri degli spettatori americani possano corrispondere a quello che troviamo in Europa e nel Regno Unito. In termini di infrastrutture è più grande e diversa, ma più appendo intorno al personale di Youthstream, vedo che lavorano in modo simile a MX Sport. È una tappa diversa e tutto è più grande. È una volta all’anno.
E la fine della gara? Affronterà sul Team USA e la partecipazione all’atleta?
Capisco che i piloti fanno 28 gare all’anno e sono stanchi alla fine della stagione e purtroppo quest’anno abbiamo avuto parecchie lesioni ma credo che saranno in fila per correre l’anno prossimo.
RedBud è famosa in tutto il mondo, ma non tutti sono stati lì, quindi cosa possono aspettarsi i visitatori?
Beh, con il clima non sai mai! Eravamo a 90 gradi in Michigan questa settimana! Potrebbe essere come Matterley ma non sarà allagata! Tipicamente le nostre estati iniziano più tardi e durano più a lungo in modo da sperare per il meglio.

RedBud talk 2018 Motocross of Nations
The USA will be the third country this century to stage the Motocross of Nations on three occasions when the 72nd edition of the historic race will visit RedBud in Buchanan, Michigan next October. Budds Creek in Maryland and Thunder Valley in Colorado hosted the fixture in 2007 and 2010. The U.S. should have staged the 2017 incarnation with Californian circuit Glen Helen initially set for the slot but cancellation of the fixture meant that Matterley Basin in the UK (Britain and France the only other territories to entertain the MXoN three times) stepped into the breach.
The RedBud National is apparently one of the most popular rounds of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross championship and the course is renowned for the vast ‘LaRocco’s Leap’. We caught up with facility co-owner Amy Ritchie to ask about their maiden staging of the Nations.
After Glen Helen fell through and the USGP was re-arranged was it actually difficult to broker the Nations at RedBud?
It actually wasn’t. We just had to be patient. We expressed an interest some time ago and then just had to work out the right timing. Youthstream and MX Sports really had to be working together for it to be successful and that’s the case now.
What about lessons from the last two Nations at Budds Creek and Thunder Valley? Have you spoken to any of those guys?
Tim [her brother] and I were both at Budds Creek and we helped as much as we could. We actually took a team there. Tim was in Colorado with a couple of guys as well. So we learned a lot from those two events. I’m not sure what their deals were financially but Budds Creek had a wonderful crowd with great energy. It was interesting to see how the whole [MXoN] structure translates to the US with all the patriotism for the countries and I think it transferred well. People came across the Atlantic and made it quite special at Budds Creek; I didn’t go to Colorado. If the Nations is east of the Mississippi then it is easier for the Europeans to get there and that is quite key. I’m looking forward to the American fans getting a taste of that [the atmosphere].
Can you talk about the scale of delivering the Nations at RedBud compared to a National?
We can only guess. I question whether US audience numbers can match what we find in Europe and the UK. In terms of infrastructure it is bigger and different but the more I hang around the Youthstream staff then I see that they work in a similar way to MX Sports. It is a different stage and everything is bigger. It is once a year.
What about the late timing of the race? Will it affect Team USA and athlete participation?
I understand the riders do 28 races a year and they are tired at the end of the season and unfortunately this year we had a lot of injuries but I think they will be lining up to race next year.
RedBud is famous around the world but not everyone has been there so what can visitors expect?
Well, with the climate you never know! It was 90 degrees in Michigan this week! It could be like Matterley but it won’t be snowing! Typically our summers have been starting later and lasting longer so we’ll hope for the best.
