Wilvo Yamaha cerca un terzo pilota nel 2018

Wilvo Yamaha potrebbe essere una delle pochissime squadre MXGP che tenga tre piloti nel FIM Motocross World Championship 2018. Il proprietario del Team Louis Vosters ha confermato all’USGP lo scorso fine settimana che il nuovo equipaggio del Team satellite sta guardando per avere un altro atleta e competere sulla 2018 YZ450Fs accanto a Shaun Simpson e Arnaud Tonus il prossimo anno.

Wilvo ha sopportato un primo anno di bittersweet nella classe premier. Shaun Simpson ha vinto il Gran Premio dell’Indonesia e Arnaud Tonus ha affermato la sua prima vittoria sul podio e nella manche in Svizzera pochi giorni fa. L’unità olandese ha abbinato l’equipaggio Yamaha a Monster Energy in termini di risultati, ma hanno anche subito lesioni sia per lo scozzese che per lo svizzero.

“Per essere onesti vorrei avere un terzo pilota. Non è facile, ma cerco di lavorare con Yamaha “, ha detto Vosters al WW Motocross Ranch in Florida. “Penso che sia 50-50 e, certamente, ci sono alcuni piloti veramente buoni nel paddock che non hanno una squadra ed è una vergogna per lo sport. Personalmente vorrei averene tre perché penso che abbiamo avuto dieci GP con solo un pilota in questa stagione e spero che non sarà lo stesso l’anno prossimo “.

Wilvo apparentemente è in attesa della conferma del sostegno da Yamaha Motor Europe per un’espansione ai loro sforzi di gara. “È complicato, ma ho pensato a lungo e penso di poterlo gestire e organizzarlo”, ha detto Vosters sulle risorse extra di richieste al quartier generale di Bergeijk.

I nomi connessi con un terzo pilota sulla YZ450F includono il pilota che transita dalla MX2 (attualmente ferito con danneggiamento alle costole e fegato) Benoit Paturel e lo “scarto” da HRC-departee Evgeny Bobryshev. Vosters è rimasto con circa chi si trova senza moto nella lista, ma ha commentato sia il francese che il russo. “È difficile dirlo” commentò. “È abbastanza brutto che Bobby non abbia un posto, sarebbe una possibilità, ma è anche pessimo che Benoit non abbia nulla. È nella famiglia Yamaha e sarebbe un rookie. È un talento e uno da seguire per il futuro. Sarei anche positivo per lui “.

Wilvo Yamaha looking to run a third rider in 2018

Wilvo Yamaha could be one of very few MXGP teams to run three riders in the 2018 FIM Motocross World Championship. Owner and Team Principal Louis Vosters confirmed at the USGP last weekend that the new satellite crew are eyeing another athlete to compete on the 2018 YZ450Fs alongside Shaun Simpson and Arnaud Tonus next year.

Wilvo have endured a bittersweet first term in the premier class. Shaun Simpson won the Grand Prix of Indonesia and Arnaud Tonus claimed his first podium and moto victory on home turf in Switzerland several weeks ago. The Dutch unit have matched the factory Monster Energy Yamaha crew in terms of results but have also suffered with injuries to both the Scot and the Swiss.

“To be honest I would like to have a third rider. It is not easy but I am trying to work it out together with Yamaha,” Vosters said at WW Motocross Ranch in Florida. “I think it is 50-50 and, for sure, there are some really good riders in the paddock who have no team and it is a shame for the sport. Personally I would like to have three because I think we have had ten GPs with just one rider this season and hopefully it will not be the same next year.”

Wilvo are apparently waiting on confirmation of support from Yamaha Motor Europe for an expansion to their racing efforts. “It is complicated but I have been thinking about it for a long time and I think we can handle and organise it,” Vosters said of the extra resources required around the Bergeijk-based HQ.

Names linked with a third YZ450F include MX2 graduate (and currently injured with rib and liver damage) Benoit Paturel and HRC-departee Evgeny Bobryshev. Vosters remained coy about who hovers on his shopping list but commented on both the Frenchman and the Russian. “It is difficult to say,” he commented. “It is quite bad that ‘Bobby’ doesn’t have a ride so he would be a possibility but it is also bad that Benoit doesn’t have anything. He is in the Yamaha family and would be a rookie. He is a talent and one for the future. So I would also be positive about him.”
