Diciassettesimo appuntamento stagionale con la MXGP 2017. A Jacksonville si è corso il Gran Premio degli Stati Uniti, ultima tappa oltreoceano della serie iridata.

Dopo le piogge della notte tra il venerdì ed il sabato il tracciato si presentava particolarmente difficile ed impegnativo. Arminas Jasikonis e Kevin Strijbos si sono qualificati rispettivamente col nono ed il quinto tempo, concludendo poi la gara di qualifica in settima e tredicesima posizione, facendo ben sperare per le due manche del giorno successivo. Purtroppo però, dopo un ottimo avvio di gara, un brutto incidente ha causato al pilota lituano la lussazione di un’anca. Nella stessa manche la Suzuki RM-450WS ha lasciato a piedi Kevin, che si è ritirato per noie meccaniche. Niente secondo via per il pilota lituano ovviamente che conclude qui la sua stagione, mentre per Strijbos è arrivato un ottimo quinto posto in gara due, dopo un avvio in terza posizione ed una manche tiratissima.

Prossimo appuntamento con la MXGP tra sette giorni in Olanda per il diciottesimo round del 2017, sulla pista di Assen.

27 ARMINAS JASIKONIS DNF- DNS

Stefan Everts: “Arminas è partito bene, conquistando la terza posizione e saltando il panettone la moto lo ha scavato mentre atterrava sul terreno morbido. E’ passato sopra il manubrio e la moto lo ha colpito causando la lussazione dell’anca destra. È stato riportato dalla squadra medica e non sta troppo male, ma deve fare altri esami. Se dovesse essere tutto ok, dovrebbe essere in grado di tornare indietro con la squadra domani, ma in quali condizioni non lo so. Sarà difficile viaggiare per lui, ma sarà bello tornare in Belgio in modo che possiamo fare tutte le verifiche lì. Una lussazione dell’anca richiede normalmente molti mesi per tornare completamente a posto, quindi dovremo aspettare e vedere. Ovviamente tutti gli auguriamo il meglio e faremo tutto il possibile per rendere il suo recupero il più veloce possibile.”

22 KEVIN STRIJBOS DNF – 5°: “Abbiamo capito qual’è stato il problema in gara uno e così abbiamo cambiato per gara due e sono riuscito a partire bene dall’interno. Penso che fossi terzo dopo aver passato Jeffrey Herlings ma non ho spinto più di tanto quando mi ha ripassato, sapendo che le condizioni di gara sarebbero state molto dure. Il ritmo era molto elevato all’inizio e non ci sono abituato, così quando sono arrivato dietro a Gautier Paulin non ho spinto troppo forte, mantenendo una buona andatura. Ho cercato solamente di restargli vicino e di evitare qualsiasi sciocchezza ed è così che è andata la gara. Ho commesso qualche errore ma nessuno mi era così vicino da avere problemi, così sono stato felice di portare a casa un quinto posto. E’ il mio miglior risultato e credo di aver mostrato che sono ancora capace di farne se centro una buona partenza. Sono contento per il team e per i meccanici, perché lavorano duramente ed è bello ricompensarli con un risultato nei top cinque. Dal canto mio penso di aver guidato bene e di on aver fatto stupidaggini ed è bello per la mia fiducia sapere che ho ancora una buona velocità.”

Sad news for Suzuki World MXGP rider Arminas Jasikonis after big crash in the first moto of the USGP left the Lithuanian rider with a dislocated hip. It was all-the-more unfortunate as the RM-450WS rider had just moved into third place in the race and was looking fast in the sandy conditions. 

General Manager Stefan Everts explains what happened in the race and what the future now holds for Jasikonis: “He got a good start, moving into third position and was jumping the tabletop when the bike dug-in on soft ground as he landed. He went over the handlebars and the bike hit him and he dislocated his right hip. It’s been put back by the medical team and it’s not looking too bad but he has to have another check-up scan. Providing it is all ok, he should be able to travel back with the team tomorrow, but in what condition, I don’t know. It will be tough travelling for him but it’ll be good to get him back to Belgium so we can do all the tests there. A hip dislocation normally takes many months to come back fully, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Obviously we all wish him the best and will do everything we can to make his recovery as swift as possible.” 

For Strijbos, technical difficulties with his bike meant that he had to DNF the first moto, but with the track at its toughest, the Belgian rider put in his best race of the season by placing fifth in the second race. He said: “We knew what the problem was in the first moto so we changed it for race two and I got a good start on the inside. I think I was third after passing Jeffrey Herlings but I didn’t put up too much of a fight when he passed me back as I knew conditions would be very tough. The pace was really high in the beginning and I haven’t been used to running that speed so when I was behind Gautier Paulin, we didn’t push too hard and I knew I could run that pace. I just tried to keep with him and not do anything stupid and that was how the race went. I made some mistakes but no one was too close behind me so I was happy to bring it home in fifth.
